Upkeep is expensive. Just running the AC all the time is expensive. But here in H-town if you don't run the AC then your just inviting mold and a bigger problem.
By the way, someone wrote in the Chronicle last Sunday the best use for the dome: pick it up and set it down on the big oil leak in the Gulf. Kill 2 birds with one stone.

Can't wait for Rouxpour to open.

Lot's of memories in that picture. Love Street, that I used to frequent, and my old college, South Texas Junior College as it was called back then, in the old M&M building. Our only means of credited PE was playing ping-pong in the basement of the building. We would roll up the big loading doors when the weather was nice and watch the trains go by. I was the South Texas ping-pong champ. Sadly that was the only "A" I ever got.

Has anyone been to both recently? Is Sugarland's boomin as much as TW?
It's doing quite well but not nearly as well as T & C. It's just not as "trendy". Of course what's trendy today may not be trendy tomorrow.

Thanks for the review. Menu sounds like it may be similar to Yelapa’s.

I hate to take TexDot's side on this BUT even before they improved 90 and added the extra lane people were driving 50-60 mph. They eliminated all cross over traffic and turn areas except at major intersections is in it self a MAJOR improvement over how it once was. Yes the only thing separating traffic is an 8 foot grassy area but that's not really any different from many other major highways in the state. I'm betting there were far worse accidents before they improved 90 than there are now. In fact I know that for a fact because I have lived right off 90 for over 30 years now. They just didn't ever make the news. Lets not over-react to one tragic incident.

I found this to be kind of interesting:
Cars given to Playmate of the Year
Every Playboy Playmate of the Year is given a vehicle. Interesting list. Some really cool vehicles (several Porsche) and a few lame ones (Mazda 6?). Even one boat.

It's great unless you live across the street as my wife and I once did.
Let me strike that. It was great unless the bride and groom went cheap on the band or worse, entertained their guests with karaoke. Some evenings my lullaby was sung by the human equivalent of a rutting tomcat.
LOL. Exactly why I choose to live in a place that has zoning laws. Still, that's what makes Montrose unique.

This place is great. Went to a wedding there and it was fabulous. Held the dinner inside and they got married on th patio. So glad it's still a restaurant.
-
Fascinating. I can't believe I never heard of the place. Is it still around today? If not, what became of it?

I'm starting to hate them more every day myself.

No way we would be rated the same as the Yankees. Their survey must be terribly flawed.

I said it wouldn't be remembered so fondly today if it weren't for the hippies and the "cool" factor they attached to it.
Yeah. I'm totally with you there. With the right management I think it could have still been a hit. It's so cool to go eat and then stroll around. Thats why City Centere, the Woodlands Market Place and so many Town Centers are cropping up. If anything Westbury Square was ahead of it's time.
ps: The Houston "hippies" were the ones into "cool" places back then. Everyone else was into air conditioned malls.

Failure to pay child support I believe.

Cool. Dallas twice within a month's time. One preseason of course. As long as they win those two then I'll be happy.
-
At least it should be easy to get tickets this season. Astros may be giving them away in another month when we are mathematically eliminated.

You can ask that about any number of goods and services. Quite a few people would not be inclined to agree with "what is reasonable profit", particularly if they, the consumers, wanted to keep as much of it in their own pockets.
The difference is I can pick and choose most goods and services but there's not much competition in movie theaters.
The few times I have seen a movie there, I parked on the street across from Richomond on on Cummins St.Just be careful not to park in any of the shopping center parking lots nearby. I hear those are major tow-away places.

I know that's where theaters make their profit but at some point you have to ask just how much of a markup is to much?

We often sneak in our own snacks at movie theaters. Along with a flask. A couple shots of bourbon makes movies like Avatar even more enjoyable.

We often drive to the Edwards Greenway theater because most theaters out in the suburbs are usually full of irritating teenagers that talk constantly or people that bring little babies and kids that whine throughout the movie. It's worth it even though you have to also pay for parking. I do find myself going to movies less and less but some movies just beg to be seen on a big screen.

Gotta agree with dbigtex56. That building probably has more personal sentimental value to me then anyone else on this site but having worked there a few years in the late 80's/early 90's it is definitely a building that's seen it's better days.
Walmart Supercenter At 111 Yale St.
in The Heights

Maybe it's just going to be one of their Neighborhood Markets like they have around town. Honestly I don't know how you people in the Heights have survived this long without a Walmart.
