  1. I don't know about love on Haif but lust, maybe. I lust for the delicious food everyone talks about on Houston past restaurants. Sure could use a Prince's seafood basket about now.
  2. Those are the kind I am talking about! Right on! and here is the almost exact areas I was checking out and found numerous and I do mean numerous old homes that MUST be restored for the sake of mankind! lol 1. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=San+Anto...p;zipcode=78207 Just keep driving West along Commerce and see the neighborhoods. I didn't realize I was so close to Our Lady of the lake University! I would have taken many pics! 2. http://www.mapquest.com/maps?city=San+Anto...de=INTERSECTION I had no idea I was so close to that park, it was neat from a distance. I noticed many new night clubs and many younger people I guess from the college.
  3. Saw the news brief the other day. I never even knew she was portrayed in a recent film or at least it was a ghost imitation of her. The was a trendsetter all right, there are some imitators out there but nothing like the real thing. I tell you brunette's are HOT too!
  4. Rich people means increased police presence. Actually it does. The more tax you pay the more HPD cares about you. It used to be you were lucky the cops even showed up if at all in the Near East End. Wealthy people rant & rave more than renters, that's how it works. Whole new topic. Now let's get the champagne ready!
  5. Very endearing photos, yet sad that Houston could even think of destroying such beauty. I recall driving past on ocassion yet never realizing what a priceless structure it was.
  6. My personal motto "always go off the beaten path" and find gold mines! In this case it paid off. Camera is a must. These are the kinds of areas where you can stop at any given intersection and see architectural history in all directions. I saw many motifs, brackets, detailing I have never seen even in SFO! No joke. You can tell society folk used to live in these palaces.
  7. We wait in abeited breath (angst) It would be amazing if original renderings were found. I would have remade in a large open field for all to see. Just think what fantastic furnishings it once housed not to mention the fantastic stories and testimonies from former students could tell. It is amazing that famous Broadway/dancer/film star Ann Miller once went there. Major wow!
  8. Major wow! On a recent trip (2 weeks ago) I had more time to cruise around SA and check out some of the neighborhoods I never knew existed. I was in the area off N Main or rather seemed to be near Alamo Community College area? You cannot help but notice the grand old mansions and homes. My big question is what happened? I saw so many extremely unique structures that must have been built in early 1800's to turn of the century. Sadly, many are in serious need of restoration. They have big porches and balconies, columns, stained leaded glass windows, etc. No paint cant be seen on many, simply faded from existance. Are there any orgs trying to save these relics? I really wish I could take a bus load of historical enthusiasts/Houstonian's to come see some these very rare buildings. I had no idea this city had sooooo much awesome historic architecture still in existance! Even the West side of the downtown area has dense examples of Victorian homes complete with original gingerbread ornamentation! Jaw dropping. Maybe I should just Google under San Antonio historical homes but those sites normally just feature the ones that have been restored. I wish I could lift up one of these homes & bring back to Houston! I mean this place rivals Galveston, seriously. I am bedazzled.
  9. I have a question. Is it only Roman Catholics that have Midnight Mass on Christmas eve?
  10. I personally cannot recall ever being a lurker. I immedately started asking questions related to our cities history & my own area where I grew up here. However, I soon couldnt help but notice the same groups bickering & really going extremely overboard with the personal attacks and insults. It became quite boring really, like seeing two old ladies fighting over & over. In many cases, many really good beginners & intelligent conversationists joined in but becoming dis-enchanted and eventually leaving because of the same trolls attacking them. Sadly, many were very attractive females.
  11. It wouldnt surprise me to still hear newcomers to Houston "assume" that this section of the city is mostly minority. I cannot speak for all of East End but can state that in our personal experience when moving to Broadmoor in 1968 that most of this specific section had many college students and U of H faculty living all around and still so to this day. In fact, when I meet new young couples in the area they tell us they used to attend U of H lived in dorms or rented small homes with other students and decided to permanently live here. They told me how mis-informed their parents/relatives were of this area. I would say on a very bright note that if most newcomers keep assuming this myth that you and others will greatly benefit from their ignorance. There is gold in them there hills people.
  12. I should have made a bet that Macy's would be shutting down here. This specific one had become run down and had an appearance of a Purple Heart thrift store. Employee's had that "I dont care any more" look on thier faces. It would be interesting to see how much $ this one was losing just to keep the lights on. I see implosion on the horizon. All the king's horse's and all the king's men couldnt possibly keep Macy's to resurface here again. lol
  13. I often wonder if others opened or spyied on presents like we did? We used to put the wrapped package up to the lamplight or sunlight to try to see thru the wrap paper. I could vaguely see Tinker Toy label or Hot Wheels or Tonka thru the paper. Of course we would throw them down when adults voice could be heard coming close. Sometimes we even camped out under the tree in hopes we would bust Santa actually coming down the chimney. Joke was on us since we had a "mock chimney" so not even a mouse could squeeze into it. I always wondered why Santa's rear never caught fire when he would chimmee down the smoke stack? We assumed he wore fire retardant suits, etc.
  14. Hallelueah! I finally got mine! This is a very thorough book indeed. Me like!
  15. Brooklyn born - Gene Eliza Tierney 1920 Cause of death - complications from emphysema Interred beside her husband Lee
  16. One of the best perks about Broadmoor is the easy access to everything and mostly the Eastwood Transit Center right off 1300 block of Munger. I used to just walk 2 blocks every day to and fro, hastle free. From the transit center you can go just about any where ie; Med Center/downtown etc.
  17. We kids would bug the hell out of mom when we could open them and she always threw it on Dad's shoulders (very scary by the way) When he finally gave in we all ran & nearly knocked over the tree in the melee'. Paper flying every where with lots of Oooo's and Ahh's. and always on Christmas Eve of course. Our family never had patience.
  18. This has to be some of the most cheerful and fun lyrics I know of! I never knew it was from Mame? Haul out the holly; Put up the tree before my spirit falls again. Fill up the stocking, I may be rushing things, but deck the halls again now. For we need a little Christmas Right this very minute, Candles in the window, Carols at the spinet. Yes, we need a little Christmas Right this very minute. It hasn't snowed a single flurry, But Santa, dear, we're in a hurry; So climb down the chimney; Put up the brightest string of lights I've ever seen. Slice up the fruitcake; It's time we hung some tinsel on that evergreen bough. For I've grown a little leaner, Grown a little colder, Grown a little sadder, Grown a little older, All: And I need a little angel Sitting on my shoulder, Need a little Christmas now!
  19. Until New Year's Eve. Correct, as the tradition goes. Think of the tree used as an escape device in the original Poseidon Adventure, except let's hope things don't turn over for you at midnight. Cheers!
  20. Right on! I believe most Sears stores had a small grill or eatery on the side like this one. Once they closed them they usually made it into a storage area or they became the spot for seasonal items like lawn mowers, etc. My little bro worked at this location in the early 80's. Closed shortly after. We never thought of taking any photos either. Rats!
  21. Please move in and get to know locals that grew here like moi. Be sure to see Sunnyland and Eastwood categories. I assure you can get real bargains IF you PM me. By the way, I am not a realtor nor know any in this area. We just want nice respectable people like the ones that used to live all arund here back in its hey day.
  22. PS, This is not considered East End folks . More like North East Houston.
  23. I still remember sitting in the family car in that Sears parking lot hearing the Watergate proceedings/hearings while mom was shopping inside, so that really dates it... and me. This building was one of the finest examples of Sears design/layout ever. Had a great a great snacks/grill too! I can still smell the juicy hamburgers/fries. You could see all of the glass enclosed area all decorated in holiday decor this time of year. "Memories; like the corners of my mind"
  24. My email is correct too, wad up yall?
