  1. what, you don't like the Gherkin? Or the Shard?
  2. We ate at Bird House tonight. Chicken was good, sides were great. Parked on Oxford with no problem at all. Food was served about very hot from cooking - I had to let it cool off for a while.
  3. More of a landlord issue, if I remember correctly.
  4. Metrostar info here - http://www.ridemetro.org/Services/CarVanPool/Van.aspx
  5. You are just plain wrong on that one. The HISD tax rate is 1.1867. The total of the other taxing entities in Houston is 1.372261. HISD has the lowest tax rate of any school district in Harris County. That's one reason I live in Houston and not out in the suburbs - my taxes are lower in HISD than they would be elsewhere. The HISD administrators I've dealt with have been very good, and there just aren't that many of them. Until such time as invoices pay themselves, the State and Federal governments cease requiring a myriad of forms, etc, we will have administrators. HISD is actually one of the better run districts in the state, and I have no problems with what they are doing in general.
  6. Why would they relocate here? What's the business reason? What benefit would it bring to the company?
  7. I don't know when the Fiesta opened, but the Randalls opened after the first flurry of development in Midtown had sort of settled. The HCAD property address is 2200 Milam, and the store opened in 2002 or 2003. Before that, we pretty much had to drive to Kroger on Gray, or the Kroger on Montrose. The first real development East of Main was Baldwin Square, which came along in 1998. Development West of Main was mostly apartments. By the time the Randalls came along, we were desperate for a place to buy groceries that wasn't a few miles away.
  8. Dogs. Cats are just evil. And, they don't listen very well. And there's that whole baby smothering thing too.
  9. Try these. I have no idea if they cover everything you are looking for. http://books.tax.hctx.net/v077/AE1997_77-1_0067.jpg http://books.tax.hctx.net/v077/AE1997_77-1_0066.jpg http://books.tax.hctx.net/v077/AE1997_77-1_0065.jpg
  10. Aren't green card holders supposed to carry it with them at all times (8USC1304(e)), but I am not a lawyer, and may have misread this)? The green card is acceptable ID for TSA http://www.tsa.gov/traveler-information/acceptable-ids
  11. and at TC Jester just North of I-10, where Stevenson Elementary used to be.
  12. What makes your design sense superior to that of the folks who buy these houses? Perhaps it's just a matter of different tastes. As long as the owner is happy, why would the rest of us care?
  13. I have a child in an HISD school, and am pretty satisfied with the education he is getting. I do not see much wastage in the HISD budget, or the budgets of the two schools he has attended/ I have been through the HISD budget with a pretty sharp eye, and there's not a lot in there to complain about. In fact, I am more pleased with HISD's use of tax dollars than just about any other political subdivision in the County. HISD took over North Forest at the request of the State, since NFISD was completely corrupt and run by nincompoops who were utterly clueless. I doubt that taking over NFISD will be a net economic benefit to HISD.
  14. HISD's rate is the lowest in Harris County.
  15. Looks like a permanent crossover they can use when they need to route traffic to the other side of the road, perhaps during the marathon, or other events. One of those "Official Use Only" crossovers.
  16. It's on 11th, West of TC Jester. Sort of an awkward property that is either in, or on the edge of, the flood plain.
  17. These pits are near Fuqua and 45
  18. Marksmu, are the Heights crime stats going up, or just the perception?
  19. You might want to peruse a state budget some time. The mental giants in Austin don't like spending money, and most of the roads we need or want here will not get funded. So, tolls it is.
  20. But tolling is the only way the road gets built. Without tolls, you have no road. The nice thing about toll roads is that the people who use them pay for them.
  21. Whose property are you going to take to do that? There's not really any room to run rail along that route. There's no way that the freight lines are going to give up their ROW.
  22. This. Militarizing the police can only end badly, since they will want to use the new toys whenever possible. I see no reason to have a fully automatic rifle in every police car - that's what SWAT teams are for on the exceedingly rare occasions where something other than shotguns and pistols are required. I am also getting tired of police officers referring to citizens as civilians. Unless the police officers are active duty military, they are civilians too. As for the situation in Ferguson, the sort of unrest that occurred there doesn't happen instantly, but is the result of tension that has built up over time, and finally comes to a head due to some triggering event.
  23. Every indoor forklift that isn't electric is powered by propane, or used to be when I was running one 30 years ago. I don't recall hearing about any problems. And, how many backyard grills blow up? That's not common, and they are mostly propane. We need Hank Hill to explain about the safety of propane and propane accessories.
