  1. There's a new sign up on the site with the above rendering and "Coming 2017" No indication of hotel brand
  2. I refuse to believe that this will wind up being the name of the complex - it just makes no sense. Typically "Upper Kirby" is the name creep over this particular part of Montrose The LLC was formed October of last year and the sale wasn't until April/May of this year so maybe it was originally formed for another deal that fell through? Anyway, hard to tell much from that "rendering" but I'm impressed with the height of these new complexes (like the Susanne) in the area. Just imagine if the Admiral Linen plot gets developed into a midrise and Read King finally goes vertical on that center at Shepherd and W Alabama. I lived in the area until very recently and W Alabama always made for a nice commute in - I suspect that is changing
  3. Nothing here. I tried digging around some but it's still listed on the CRBE website as for sale - not sure how often that is updated though Actually, now that I look there was a recent permit for tank removal (7/14). It would be better if it's part of the new complex but I honestly wouldn't mind a new gas station there
  4. I haven't been able to dig up a rendering, but it looks like a new complex is going up at 8700 Main St. I saw "Haven at Main St" referenced in the latest planning commission meeting and a building permit was issued for a new parking garage yesterday Buyer for permit was Troy Bell of the Guefen Companies - they apparently specialize in multifamily properties. Judging by their project list they mainly do garden style apartments but this tract is only 3.4 acres Edit: Guess it is just a "plan review fee", not a building permit
  5. pg. 125 of this document http://issuu.com/hokmarketing/docs/tall_buildings___portfolio On pg. 128 you can zoom in and make out a few store names so definitely some sort of retail component Edit: Just googled again and 7200 MAIN MIX-USE DISTRICT, Houston, TX, U.S comes up on a LinkedIn profile as something a summer intern worked on in 2013 at Gensler, not HOK?
  6. I think the school actually owns its land still - in 2008 it shows a change to "Taeken Ltd" whereas all of the other parcels are 7200 Main Corporation. I could be wrong though I live in Old Braeswood and would be thrilled if this is built, maybe because I'm not going to be in the shadow. Not sure all of my neighbors would agree, though. The area south of TMC really needs something to kick start it and wow, this would be it. I've been tracking this plot for a couple of years now so excited to actually see a rendering of some sort. Even if this isn't what gets ultimately built at least it shows some ambition
  7. 2500 Dunstan is only ~2 acres. Does that mean that the land at University and Greenbriar is available for future mixed use as well?
  8. The Burj Al Arab and Burj Khalifa are 2 different buildings. Burj Khalifa (previously Burj Dubai) is the tallest building in the world, the Burj Al Arab is the 7 star hotel Burj Al Arab was out of my price range but we did eat dinner at the Al Muntaha on the top floor. I can't speak to the experience in the rooms (which I am sure is top notch) but to be honest I was expecting more with the entrance and lobby for "7 stars". I guess if you spend enough time over there you wind up seeing countless fancy hotel lobbies
  9. FWIW, I've got a meeting scheduled in the building for after June 1
  10. Yes, you are correct. The western most portion of Old Braeswood there are just the homes off Glen Haven and Blue Bonnet. Of course, my house is one of the few actually obscured by trees. We've got a massive willow oak I assumed was planted when the house was built but maybe it's older after all Anyway, Old Braeswood POA has a color aerial of that same area in the mid 50's showing the neighborhood had really filled in to the north around the same time Knollwood Village got going. I really wish there were some more of those color aerial shots of the area http://www.oldbraeswood.com/images/obair.jpg
  11. I walked by this over the weekend and I didn't see a for sale sign - the sign was for "Pinnacle Construction Industries" http://www.pinnacleconstruction.com/ so the project could still be a go?
  12. Thanks for the pics, Larry! Definitely an upgrade for the area - I hope this trend continues We don't shop at that Kroger's often, but when we do I always wonder what those apartments are right next door. They look reasonably well maintained, but the low slung nature of the complex and the lack of landscaping have always made me think it was some sort of low income apartments. Just realized it's a Residence Inn? Crazy... Seems like it would be prime for redevelopment
  13. I think you can only view it on the desktop version - I didn't have to download or update anything. It didn't show up for a few days for me... Anyway going back to October 2007 it appears to show the Macy's sign. You can click on the image in the timeline to switch over to street view from that time period
  14. I'm guessing others have noticed this, but just in case you haven't google street view now has a time lapse feature. It was announced earlier in the week but didn't become active for Houston until the last couple of days. Downtown and other major areas of course have the most available historical data (back to 2007). 2007 of course was pre-Ike so it can make for some interesting comparisons in places like Galveston...or of course in areas that have undergone significant development in the last 7 years
  15. I hate to revive an old thread, but does anyone know of someone reputable who actually works outside the Heights that does on-site work? Sash guy apparently won't do it
  16. I caught a glimpse of a small rendering up along Main St. earlier tonight - maybe somebody with better reflexes can take a pic. All I can say is that it incorporates brick and was maybe ~5 stories, so nothing unexpected. They are definitely going right into construction mode Edit: Larry, per some google searches it looks like the old complex had 240 units. That's more than I would have guessed but it was spread out over 5.7 acres
  17. That would be my guess. Redevelopment here + something on that Coventry Development parcel on Main St would make for quite a bit of activity in the area
  18. I've noticed the last few weeks that The Crossing on Kirby apartments (7600 Kirby) were boarded up. Today it looks like they were stripping out all of the appliances, etc., which were just sitting around the parking lots... Anyway, finally looked it up on hcad and ownership changed to Millennium Kirby LLC back in September The address to Millennium Kirby LLC is tied to "The Dinerstein Companies", who are behind several Millennium apartment developments including Millennium High Street on Westheimer Demo permits and some sort of plan review fee for a new apartment building are out there, so it looks like something is definitely happening.... I'm going to keep my expectations realistic on the final product, but nice to see some activity around that area
  19. That shot needs more power lines... I've been through that intersection many times and guess I never bothered looking up
  20. Just recently noticed how closely this resembles the Audi dealership along Sheikh Zayed Road in Dubai, which was apparently opened in November last year and billed as the world's biggest Audi dealership. Reading the article about the opening of the one in Dubai, apparently this is one of Audi's new "terminal" dealerships
  21. Not a native Houstonian but I've been here over 10 years and never had a chance to set foot in the place...but I will still vote yes. It's one of the few identifiable landmarks (perhaps the most identifiable) people outside of this city associate with Houston. The idea of replacing it with yet another parking lot in that fugly, probably-visible-from-space barren wasteland of parking will just further limit any chance of redevelopment in that part of town. They're already expanding parking to the former Astroworld site, where does it end? I'd love an indoor amusement park - like a scaled down Ferrari World - but I'm guessing the economics are just a bust Really curious to see if we will get any polling numbers on this before the vote. For instance, would renters be more inclined to vote yes since the impact to them is less direct? Have there been any similar votes (small $/yr on property tax) votes in the past?
  22. Exactly. They are putting the land on the market in a few weeks They said they'd received some off the market offers that lead them to believe it will wind up being a high rise, but it seems we're a ways off from hearing anything concrete on this
  23. A banner is now up, says will be available summer 2014 - 83 luxury apartments, plus some retail space available. I think it must have been put up in just the last few weeks or I would have noticed it. No large-scale work going on that I can see, but I'll take this as a positive sign Also saw some headlines where a Dallas developer had the old Falstaff brewery under contract. I'd honestly never really driven around there but checked it out today and can't imagine what they would do with it. Looks like you could convert it into some cool lofts or something but it didn't seem like a good area / location IMO
