  1. Yeah, that's kinda weird. There are several entries on the FAA site, with all either 385' or 423' which are all labelled "Point M1" through "Point M4". Looking at the rendering and these heights it looks like these may correspond to just the four corners at the top of the apartment tower (only part of it reaches the 423). I haven't used that site much but from my short experience with it typically there is a building height and a crane height - can't say I've seen corners of a building referenced but it looks like that's what this is
  2. 385' and 423' on FAA site. Very little info but they just showed up... Not quite sure how to link this but hopefully it works- https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/searchAction.jsp?action=displayOECase&oeCaseID=266937198&row=272 https://oeaaa.faa.gov/oeaaa/external/searchAction.jsp?action=displayOECase&oeCaseID=266937197&row=279
  3. They are supposed to start the channel modifications (widening) of that stretch of the bayou under Project Brays next year, I believe. During the Memorial Day flooding the areas further west were impacted more as there was no flooding within the TMC (though water got very high in the bayou). So hopefully the additional widening helps with the flooding risk I hate to say it because I live somewhat nearby and like this project, but I have to wonder how successful the retail component is going to be. It's not near the rail, and will be across the bayou from the vast majority of TMC workers. I don't work in the TMC but I would assume it's not easy to just hop in your car and go shopping somewhere over lunch. Regardess, hopefully this will help kick-start something over at 7200 Main as well
  4. FWIW, the other morning I was coming up Travis and noticed a worker or someone walking around the base - that entrance was open as well, I believe. It didn't seem like that big of a deal at the time (considering we have seen "workers" there before) but maybe something really is happening. No idea what the guy was doing, though
  5. http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/morning_call/2015/09/texas-medical-center-to-move-forward-on-new-30.html It sounds as if this is happening, though things are moving a bit slower with the actual research component:
  6. Some permitting activity on this. No building permit yet but looks like it is going to happen: Project Details Project No: 15097499 Date : 2015/09/09 00:00:00 USE : NEW HOTEL Owner/Occupant : *RESIDENCE INN Job Address : 7807 KIRBY DR 77030 Valuation : $ 0 Permit Type : PX FCC Group : Hotels & Motels Buyer : *ALL TEXAS PERMITS Address : 12723 ASHFORD BROOK DR 77082 Phone : (281) 556-1883 If I recall from that planning commission meeting, this will have a 5 story parking garage. So while it's not necessarily the sexiest project I would argue that it is substantial As someone else previously pointed out, this should also have implications on the existing low-rise Residence Inn across the street. It certainly takes up a pretty good chunk of land
  7. Nope, just a dork that does Houston online permit searches in his zip code every few days. I just like knowing what's being torn down and built around me for some reason
  8. A permit came through. It's just for "sitework" but glad to see this is still moving roject Details Project No: 15083597 Date : 2015/08/31 00:00:00 USE : SITEWORK-UTILITIES-PAVING FOR FUTURE APT Owner/Occupant : *GREYSTAR-TMC Job Address : 1850 1/2 OLD MAIN ST 77030 Valuation : $ 0 Permit Type : PX FCC Group : Structures Other than Buildings Buyer : *PERMITS PLUS * Address : 5380 W 34TH ST 240 77092 Phone : (713) 686-1728
  9. I've got to stop searching those things by zip code as I missed it It's weird but Pg 270 and 271 seem out of place, like they are mixed in with the Medistar hotel documents?
  10. Any recent links on this? I googled and found a clip from an April planning commission meeting where a variance was denied. They did mention a 5 story parking garage The current Residence Inn nearby definitely takes up a lot of land. It looks like an old apartment complex from that Kroger parking lot
  11. Maybe? The hole was pretty big, though. I thought perhaps it was related to burying the power lines (which was mentioned in the planning commission meeting) but apparently not
  12. I noticed that they filled back in the hole the other day, and today saw that they had paved it back over (actually poured concrete). Equipment is gone as well. Maybe not a sure thing just yet?
  13. It was listed on the Medistar website as an Intercontinental at one point under developments - it's no longer on their main site but you can google it and still find it elsewhere. I think that's the only solid piece of info out there Not completely sure what they are doing here as they dug a square hole (maybe 4' deep?). A lot of workers there yesterday, not that many this morning but they were still digging or doing something with that excavator Still no permits or any sort of announcement that I've seen
  14. I run by this lot every couple of days and noticed some activity this evening - had a large part of the lot marked off and some equipment there
  15. So ignoring spires on a few buildings, would this make the 2nd tallest building in the Medical Center? Memorial Hermann Medical Plaza is 430'. If you count the Spires (426') it would make the 3rd tallest. Either way, not bad at all
  16. Was curious about this one, so actually watched the planning commission meeting on HTV. Everything was approved The only real item of interest is that the apartment building was stated as 25 floors on top of a 9 floor garage (34 floors) unless the presenter misspoke
  17. Found these clearer images from the actual presentation: http://uli.org/wp-content/uploads/ULI-Documents/ShawnCloonan_MedicalCity.pdf
  18. I don't think they are - I'm no expert in reading these but I think this development is going on the 1.3845 acres labeled as Unrestricted Reserve "A", which is the acreage listed in the re-plat. All renderings show it on that parking lot between the Wyndham and the Best Western I think the "University Place" subdivision name already exists
  19. Only 27 units but the lot is less than half an acre (0.44 ac, I think). That's only ~20,000 sq ft so the floors can't be all that big Just wondering if this will be something similar in scale to One Montrose Place (also by Heritage Home builders), which is 7 stories. Just found this description of that development: One Montrose Place has seven floors containing 34 condo units and 4 penthouses. Floor areas range from 1,337 to 1,545 square feet for regular condos and 1,834 to 2,932 for penthouse suites
  20. Is there a rendering for this? I was trying to figure out how many floors this might be. Not the most attractive surroundings for wealthy foreign visitors
  21. I don't see it happening. Maybe before, but now that I actually live somewhat in the area I really can't see that this was ever meant for large scale development. At least not now... It's really a "fringe" plot - absolutely nothing to the south to speak of, nothing all that desirable (at least to developers) to the east/northeast, and a vast ocean of parking lots to the north and (now) immediate west. Well, to the west is really more now a perennial grass parking lot with no trees and ugly storage sheds sitting there. Some decent demographics exist in the general vicinity to the west/north but this is nothing like the City Centre site. It does have good freeway access, great proximity to the medical center, and decent proximity to downtown. I don't think access to NRG stadium really does much, though that potential indoor park at the Astrodome would help. Anyway, I think at best we get some low-rise apartments ala "Connection at Buffalo Pointe". I seriously hope I'm wrong, but to me the fact that the rodeo grabbed ~1/2 the land really undermines the chance of getting anything decent here Edit: failed to mention that it does have good rail access, of course. That should also help but this plot is still an island in a sense. I can only see residential (low-rise apartments or more townhomes) here
  22. Surprised Lovett hasn't already grabbed that parcel. I'm expecting yet more townhomes there That flyer has some great aerial shots - my question is how much longer will those single story storage units last? Talk about a waste of real estate... Hopefully these new developments along S. Main will eventually spread East of Main St down there as well
  23. I'll get a bit more excited if this (or 7200 Main) ever get announced. Or heck, even if they break ground on those apartments/Intercontinental Hotel It seems to me that traffic congestion really holds the area back. I know OTC is in town but it has been ridiculous down there lately.. Whenever I tell anyone I live that general area the first thing they comment on is the traffic. I know the Galleria is awful as well but at least there are freeways cutting through
