  1. Did a quick drive by today and saw workers as well, and it look like they were actually doing stuff...lol. I can't wait for the tower and for West Ave to be finished, though at this rate 2727 might take a while! At this point it's not a question of if, but when it'll be finished
  2. Check my post right above yours There are also some cool pics of the theater and the center mixed in here
  3. Wow....I think that photo is under the definition of "dreary" Just look where it came from: Tower Community Center
  4. Hmmm...I swear I saw some scaffolding around the bottom of this monstrosity this morning on the way in for work. It may have been there for months, or maybe they're just painting the garage for all I know...or maybe they're trying to protect pedestrians from falling debris, lol. But anyone know what's going on there?
  5. LOL...yeah, when I first saw the sign pre-construction, I was afraid it'd be yet another small branch bank. I was pleasantly surprised at the size when I found it online, but I still can't visualize what the heck it'll look like when finished
  6. The sign at the site says Green Bank: http://www.greenbank.com/ Taller than I had thought it would be, as well...
  7. Behind numbers? LOL, there was no debate on whether THAT area was sketchy, particularly with that 24 hr video place j/k. I have to say, though, it's still a fun area - I've got a friend who is trying to convince me to make my first trip to numbers, though so far we haven't quite made it. I used to hit up La Strada sometimes on Sundays, but the crowd is a little too much for me these days... Honestly, I've never seen any prostitutes, but I don't tend to walk around that area after dark
  8. Well, I don't think the homeless problem along that particular stretch is that much worse than anywhere else in Houston, and definitely isn't as bad as Montrose/Westheimer. I walk along that area fairly frequently and never have a problem - at least on the weekends That said, I swear I saw some homeless dude up on the 2nd floor of that new structure the other day
  9. I can't believe it, either... Not much to see now, as all they've done is tear out the walkways. Should be interesting to see them haul those buildings out of there! I was hoping the area wouldn't become overrun with townhouses, but I think that's exactly what's going to happen...
  10. Oh lord...I know nobody cares, but I have to vent somewhere. A lady at Allen Black said they were going to build 15 (!) townhouses on this particular plot of land. Is this physically possible??? She assured me that they were going to be very upscale, and 3-4 stories... I think I'm going to puke The land in question is T-shaped, and has the metal buildings on it - wouldn't let me link to it, but it's at 1822 Branard if you use maps.live.com My neighborhood feels like the most disorganized ever, but is there anyway to fight this??
  11. Not sure, but I wonder if the daily rains have slowed them down...
  12. Well, sonofa...got home today to see an "Allen Black Custom Homes" sign in front of the buildings they're taking away...sure hope ol' Allen Black has ventured off into building schools There's an Ironwood Custom Homes sign in front of the place they torn down in that video. Anyone know if either of these guys tend toward single family or townhouses??
  13. This particular piece of property is different in that it is quite large and was apparently cleared in the past...2-3 connected lots, more or less. Though I wasn't a big fan of the pre-fab buildings, dog walkers seem to be quite fond of the large amount of green space I do like what the school has done with some of those renovated homes...they all look well maintained
  14. Anyone here have any connections with St. Stephen's? I live next door to some prefab buildings on Branard that have "High School" on the front, and saw over the weekend that they were being dismantled. One of the crew there told me that they are building a "permanent" building, but didn't offer much else... This section of the school takes up a huge T-spaced shaped lot, and I can't really imagine how a permanent structure would really fit on it. I'm concerned that maybe the school sold the land, and that I'll soon see the side of a new townhouse out my window - is there any to tell if ownership has changed hands? Haven't seen any online permits as of yet... BTW, not exactly a historic loss, but here's a demolition that took place across from the school just a few weeks back. Someone actually filmed it and put it on youtube, which I thought was pretty cool. Anyway, sort of surprising since the house didn't seem that bad:
  15. Yeah, it's not too bad - google shows it as ~0.7 miles. I live near the area and will often walk from near Richmond over to Westheimer and it seems to take no time at all. Then again, if it's up to someone to either try to drive to this place or to take a train and then walk 3/4 of a mile, I think a car wins out. With 2727 Kirby and this development in the works, hopefully that strip will become more of a destination that could be attractive to rail users (if the rail ever comes!)
  16. A high-rise where Bookstop is? I can't even imagine something on that large of a scale given the congestion already in the area... Someone else mentioned this before, but I really love the idea of the Alamo Draft House coming in. It would save the theatre, put films back on the screen, and the dark lighting would dampen some of painful colors in there
  17. Do you mean Richmond and Dunlavy? They're building an apartment complex there...there's a thread on it somewhere
  18. Hmmm...yeah, I'll be glad to see it go, but hopefully they can find somewhere for these people. Regardless, hopefully it's removal will help clean that area up. I live in a different part of Montrose, but when I think of the neighborhood I almost always think of that intersection and assume that others must as well. Maybe I should just engrain another area into my mind
  19. I'd really like to something a little more interesting done with that grimey Blockbuster Video shopping center...and Hollywood Video, of course. Surely there's a better use for it than as a toilet.. The best part was it I walked back a little while later I had to watch my step Is that ministry building back behind the hollywood video complex? I've been to mo mong's a couple of times and have noticed a lot of people milling about back there
  20. Dang, I keep posting before finished with my messages... Anyway, does anyone know of any upcoming developments at Westheimer and Montrose? Seems like that intersection has a lot of potential, but there's still too much of an undesirable element for whatever reason. Just the day before yesterday I was walking in front of the Hollywood video and saw 2, not 1, guys urinating on the front of the buildling at the same time, and there was a shirtless homeless guy sleeping in the front area. After passing by I saw some pretty monstrous looking townhomes being constructed near the SE corner there... Talk about contrast Is it any better around there than it was 5 years ago?
  21. Oh yeah, and I forgot - do you guys think this could affect the planned development at Wilshire Village just a couple of blocks away? I haven't heard anything about it in a while, but was just curious...not sure the area can take both The Wilshire Village deal seems sort of dead in the water, anyway...
  22. First-time poster here...long-time lurker I live just a few blocks from there, so it's definitely attracted my interest - is this really a good thing?? Anyone know of other complexes these guys have put up? I couldn't tell much by that sketch
