  1. This was before City Streets. (In case you don't know the history) It originally opened as Avalon in mid 90. They started doing a sunday night thing called DV8 and that took off so they changed the name of the club to DV8. When the success of that deflated they flipped it to Tejano in late 92 calling it Zazz (it went through a period there in late 93 until 1/94 when they flipped it to an upscale R&B/Hiphop club targeting a black crowd) then back to tejano. Zazz lasted about two years and it got shut down (was never clear on why). The owners of Blue Planet (who once owned club 6400) bought it and turned it into the multi-room venue called City Streets. It's been awhile since I've been in the area. Whats going on over there now? Yeah, I've seen that one before.
  2. Subdude, you wouldn't by chance have pictures of the old Windsor theater would you? Always wanted to know what that place looked like. I worked there when it was a tejano nightclub. (still turns my stomach whenever I think about it). Used to always wonder about it when I was there.
  3. Yeah she also pronounced something else wrong towards the end of that report, can't remember exactly what but it was kind of funny. She seemed to rush the end of the report almost as if she were somewhat embarrased. Oh well I still love that woman.
  4. Dave Ward looks more like an owl than Bob Nicholas.
  5. You're right about Jessica Willey. I never thought Dominique was all that. If you ask me most of the news babes (female) are all at KTRK. The big deal over Jan Jeffcoat was that there was someone who was joining the Fox 26 news team but because she was still under contract with another station so they couldn't show you her picture or use her name. Thats all. They wanted us to know it but just couldn't say who. But she is another one on my list. We should get a list of our personal favs going here.
  6. ...what do you all think of Illona Carson on KTRK? Is she related to Jan Carson that used to be on KPRC? Illona annoys me to death cause she vomits information and covers it with a constant flow of stupid comments. When she does the news with Dave Ward it's a disaster. People need to shut up when Dave is talking. I've wondered that myself if Illona is possibly Jan Carson's daughter. I agree that when Dave speaks none of the other's should say a word but I think she's still trying to fit in so she just goes on. She is kinda nice to look at though. I have noticed in the past on KTRK that Tim Heller gets little or no bantering and stupid jokes thrown at him from anyone. It must be in his contract. I like him. He's very professional and rarely stumbles over his words. My ex and I used to get a kick out of how much Ed Brandon stutters and falls all over what he's saying. You could get a tequila shot game going over his reports and do a shot everytime he messed up and be pretty smashed by the time he was done. Who I really like and would like to see more of is Stephanie Guadian. She's a babe. Her weekend anchoring just isn't enough for me.
  7. The guy that used to do mornings with Sam and Maria was Psycho Robbie (whereabouts unknown, probably not in radio) Sam Malone IS his real name. Replying to someones post about morning DJ's laughing about everything. I noticed Natalie was already doing it Monday morning at everything Sam was saying (I think she was already laughing even before Sam started talking :-P). It was pretty annoying.
  8. I doubt it. When the theater was torn down they pretty much cleared the land. I could be wrong. Going through there tomorrow. I'll stop and look.
  9. What was Cinerama? What was the big deal and how did it work? This was before my time. I got here just in time for Sensurround.
  10. In the meantime, Romero's The Courtyard on St. James, a private event facility and lunch-only restaurant located at 1885 St. James Place, will serve many of Jalapenos' most popular dishes. The catering arm of Jalapenos will relocate to The Courtyard and continue to operate. I really wish someone would open another club there at 1885 St James Place. It always bugged me that this is what it became after The Ocean Club closed.
  11. I've heard this is only the beginning of changes to come at KHMX. I think CC might be positioning themselves to finally put their CHR KISS FM brand in Houston (96.5 KISS FM, anyone?). Although I think Sam fits the current format pretty well.
  12. Didn't Woolworth and Woolco merge. I seem to remember those names together. Woolworth & Woolco. An old Woolco still stands at 59 and Little York. Its a Flea Market now. But the doors handles still have the W on them and the logo is still on the floor as you enter. When did they go out of business. I remember a report about them closing their Houston stores but can't remember when that was. Anyone remember the furniture place Kennedy and Cohen at 610 and Mykawa Lets see 84 Lumber I'll think of more....
  13. Yup, they were around in the early 90s. Alot of those buildings are still around. My moms lives near one on Blackhawk in Friendswood. Anyone mention Appletree. Eagle Lewis and Coker Safeway Albertsons Levitz Rice Gerlands Kmart Federated Globe Weingarten's Weiners
  14. Has JoJos on S Braeswood been closed that long? I had a job driving a tow truck back in 2000 I was out there late one night and began feeling nostalgic and remembering the times I walked through there as I was on my way to my girlfriends house. Anyway, I came upon JoJo's and noticed it dark. I parked across the street from it and walked up to the door. There was a notice for the customers on the door thanking them for their business and basically saying they were closed. To the right was a window and I could see in and noticed that all of the tables were set, silverware and napkins placed, salt, pepper ketchup bottles at the center of the tables as if they had been set for the next day. It didn't look like it had been closed long... almost as if they had just closed the night before. Even the grass looked like it had been cut recently. That was the last time I was out there. Anyone know if it's still like that inside or has it been boarded up since?
  15. I remember a cineplex inside Memorial City mall. The last movie I saw there was Selena.
  16. As soon as I find out I'll let you know. Be right back.
  17. I've been way ahead of you all on this because I haven't bought gas in over a year now! Of course it wouldn't make sense to being that I don't have a car anymore..... .....and I am SOOO glad that I dont own a car right now because these gas prices would leave me broke!
  18. I'm left handed. Seriously I am. I know quite a few lefties also in my family who aren't gay. If there is any truth to that "theory" it may hold true to females also.... one of my cousins is bi. Her friend is also a lefty and bi. Oh crap... just remembered another female I know (who is actually in the next room) that is also left handed and she is bi-curious.
  19. YES!!! I grew up in this area too. I've been to that pool with the "dreaded" hightower a couple of times. Last time I was there I was about 16 in '86. I was always afraid I was going to hit the side of the pool jumping off that thing! Is it still there? I'm suprised no one mentioned Fame City Water Works. Remember that place. I kind of remember the chessy commercials they ran on cable for that place. The jingle "Fame Fa Fa Fame, Fa Fa Fa F F Fame.... Fame City!"
  20. I think Univision is moving from their North Loop location and moving all the Houston radio and tv operations to the new 59 south location.
