  1. Yes it did. It wasn't on 104 goober it was 93Q.
  2. Why is any of this being considered for the Astrodome? It's the ASTRODOME, "The Eighth Wonder of the World". The FIRST of its kind, a HISTORICAL landmark of Houston! It's our claim to fame. It baffles my mind that anyone ever considered demolishing it or even altering it. I dont like the hotel plans.
  3. Whatever is going up behind HEB at Gulfgate doesn't look like its going to be a Best Buy.
  4. I havent read further down to see if this was answered already but I know for a fact that the coffee shop/restaurant scene was filmed in Pasadena on Spencer Hwy just east of the Shaver intersection. If your familiar with the area there was a Mongomery Wards (its a flea market now), at the southeast corner there, just east of that is where the restaurant was. Its been torn down since, theres nothing there now. Its a vacant lot between the flea market and a Ryans family restaurant (closed also). If you notice in the scene where Sissy is trying to hitchhike, The MW is in the background... well you see the sign anyway. I was about 9-10 years old when this movie was filmed. Around that time I had an uncle who lived in an apartment complex just passed it. I remember seeing it on the way there. Had no idea it was one of the filming locations, however I did know John Travolta was in town filming a movie, I though that was so cool. (Big fan of Kotter and Saturday night fever) The trailer park was located in California.
  5. I know I'm late but I had to put my 2 cents in...... Ilona Carson Stephanie Guadian (i like watching her talk.. ooh those lips ) Jessica Wiley Jan Jeffcoat Not in any particular order....
  6. You do know Roula IS her name? I actually thought it was a dj name once. She came to KRBE about the time you were able to hear the song "Lick It" by Roula on The Beat. I thought she adopted the name. I was wrong.
  7. Yes. There was one on Westpark @ 59 and the other was on 610 between Hempstead & Old Katy Rd.
  8. There actually was a Prince's at that corner. Just north of the Chequer Imports
  9. No the place on Belfort & Mykawa was a 7-11. My friends and I used to frequent that place for Big Gulp Slurpees and video games (Punch Out, Crazy Climber and Asteroids). I lived on Crosswell. Anyone remember the Sunny's on Belfort & Northdale?
  10. The Lamar Hotel (which sat on the block bound by Main St, Lamar, Louisiana, & McKinney) housed the Metropolitan along with the Loews State Theatre was demolished in 82. The building that housed the Kirby, I believe, is still there. The theater no longer exists.
  11. The Navaway was torn down sometime in the early 80s. I want to say after Hurricane Alicia. The location is a parking lot for a church next door now. I used to see that theatre as we were going to or leaving my grandmothers house when I was really little (mid 70s). I was intriged by it being an abandoned theatre. I wanted to know what it looked like inside. I remember asking my parents about it and wanting to see the inside of it and they told me there were rats and roaches in it. I think this is where my interest in abandoned buildings began.
  12. Another one you can put on that list is The Granada on Jensen & Tidwell
  13. I lived by the old Epsom a few years ago. I believe someone lives at there. I've heard its the owner of the drive in. If you notice just behind it is a Metro Park and Ride. Metro wanted the land for this purpose but the owner refused to sell. Probably holding out for the day drive ins make a come back. The screen and concession stand are still there. Check out the arial... http://maps.google.com/maps?q=9716+jensen+...h&iwloc=A&hl=en
  14. Chuck Davis Chevy is on the SE corner of 610 & Kirby. I bought a Cavalier there a few years ago.
  15. The Santa Rosa hasn't been closed. It became a porn theater and video store sometime around 1986 and had been ever since. They changed the name to Starzz. It closed last year. I actually stopped in out of curiosity a couple of years ago because as a kid I saw a few spanish movies with my parents there sometime in the late 70s/early 80s. I recognized the design on the floor in the lobby. The snack bar still in place, but there wasn't candy and popcorn in it..... It was practically the same except for that it was dark, dirty and dinjy. I made my way up to the balcony there were holes in the walls, ceiling fixtures hanging. I looked over the balcony and saw that most of the right row of chairs had been removed, broken chairs here and there. The projection booth was closed in but saw people going in and out of it. The movie was being shown from a video projector that was hung over the middle of the main floor (wondered how they got it up there) Don't know what was going on in the booth and I wasn't going to find out. It was a was a sad sight but interesting because it was like a step into the past. I hadn't set foot in that building since the very early 80s, I must have been 10 or 11. How many of us can still do that? Most of the places of our past are gone now or have been remodled to something else. I just had to know what it was like now because I knew one day I wouldn't be able to.
  16. I wonder if the sun on the new Gulfgate signs are meant as some acknowledgement or a contrast of the old umbrella. The umbrella (now) representing a dark rainy day (the old Gulfgate) to a sun, representing a sunny new day (the new Gulfgate). Am I reading too much into it?
  17. Globe turned into Fedmart. After it closed around 82, I believe the building was either demolished or altered then opened as Mervyns
  18. Well I used to live in the apartments at 936 Heights Blvd from 94-96 and I don't recommend living there unless they've put up an access gate or hired a security guard to watch the parking lot. My car was broken into twice there and my radio was stolen both times. But they were considerate enough to not break the window the first time they got in. I had a Hyundai hatchback and they removed the rear window by peeling the rubber gasket away and then just put the glass to the side. Second time they jimmied the door and took the radio but they were nice enough to put all the wires back into the console instead of just leaving them hanging. Wierd.
  19. Yeah, didn't Brewster McCloud live in it? Was that really a shelter in the Astrodome or was that just a set they used in the movie?
  20. We had Del Taco in the mid 80s. Didn't last very long.
  21. I haven't been able to go by there. Can someone tell me whats happening? Have they begun dismantling the rides yet? Hope someone's getting pictures if they are.
  22. IT'S A GOLF GALAXY NOW?!?!?!? Just did a google search on 5078 Richmond ave. When did this happen? What idiot allowed this to happen to the Windsor theatre?
