  1. Ok this question just took a sudden turn... I've had a curiosity over this building for sometime. Wondering what its original state was. Recently I took an interest in the old Gaylynn Theater after seeing pictures of it on a couple of old movie theater sites. Cinema Treasures and Cinerama. Both sites have this theater listed as having been demolished and the location being occupied by the now shuttered Sharpstown Cinemas. Thought it was such a shame this place no longer exsited, it looked like a beautiful theater and wish i could have seen it. If I ever did go as a kid I was probably too small to remember it. Well now I don't believe that it ever was torn down, unless someone knows different. I was looking at the picture of the Crutch Charter School from the link glzuma posted, http://abclocal.go.com/ktrk/story?section=news/local&id=7088076. Then compared it to this picture of the old Gaylynn, http://cinerama.topcities.com/gaylynn.htm. First off the over hang, the doors and windows are identical, the columns have been altered but look behind that second column on the left and compare it to the old pic. What pretty much comfirmed it was the lights sockets on the ceiling of the over hang. This IS the old theater. Im glad to see it still standing but sad what its become in the hands of the charter school.
  2. What was this place originally? I tend to believe it was a skating rink, was it?
  3. Actually it now houses 24hr Fitness. The address of the Windsor Cinerama Theater is listed as 5078 Richmond Avenue. It closed in 1989 according to Cinematour.com It opened in mid 1990 as a nightclub called Avalon, then DV8. Flipped to Tejano in late 1991. In 1994 it was bought out from previous ownership, I understand they were escorted out of the building. Remodeled and reopened as a multi room nightspot called "City STREETS". During its Tejano days I heard ads stating the address as 5100 Richmond Ave. Not sure why.
  4. It was a night spot for a number of years starting in 1990 as Avalon, then DV8. It flipped to Tejano as Zazz in late 1991. 1995 it was bought out and remodeled as a multi room night club called, City STREETS. The address I heard constantly advertised for this location was 5078 Richmond Avenue. For some reason during its Tejano days they would say 5100 Richmond.
  5. Was there a movie theater in Westbury Square? I saw a couple of movies as a kid in that area around the early 80s but dont remember quite where it was. It was a twin theater. Saw The Other Side of the Mountain and Back Roads with my parents. Always wondered what that place was.

  7. I've been frequenting Historicaerials.com lately. Pretty addicted. Its facinating to see how certain areas have changed so much and being able to see what used to be in certain places. It allows you to compare from the 1950s up to about 2004. ANYWAY. I was looking over Pasadena and found what looked like it could have been a portion of a drive in on Red Bluff just east of the Beltway about midway before Red Bluff intersects with Pasadena Blvd. Well I took it all the way back to 1957 and found there was a drive in. Anyone know what drive in that was?
  8. Didn't you ever see the movie Dazed and Confused?
  9. Where exactly was the Gaylynn Theater located? Is the structure still there?
  10. That was the teen club Carrz (sp?). I don't think that place survived into the 90s though
  11. I'd like to see one of KTRK's sign on or off from the late 70's/early 80s. I used to wake up early Saturday mornings just to watch it before the saturday morning cartoons came on when I was a kid... with Charlie Harrison doing VO.
  12. I remember Debbi Johnson. She co-anchored with someone I want to say Tom Abrahams (mid to late 80s). Both fairly young at the time. There was an April Fool bit done in the Post by Ken Hoffman about them supposedly there had been a quiet thing between for sometime, they decided to make it known and were now engaged to be married. The day after both were dismissing any truth to it in the next days article. I think she had no knowledge of the article and had people asking her if it was true. She was a pretty good sport about it.
  13. About as far back as I can remember which is about the early 70s that big silver 2 sat on the side of the KPRC tower until about the mid 90s. Everytime I passed through that area I made it a point to look at that tower. I used to wonder if that 2 was still up there under the current logo.
  14. I saw her last night and wondered what the buzz would be about her on the boards. She IS pretty good. Very professional. She just jumped right into it like she had been here forever. Good addition to KTRK. I wondered where she was from. I saw her and thought she had a WABC feel to her. I was wrong.
  15. I believe there also/was one under the El Paso (formerly Tenneco) Building.
  16. I remember this also when I went Hartman Middle School in 83. The threat at my school was if you were spotted by one of them wearing anything blue, you'd get beat up. One time there was a claim that one of the Smurfs called in a bomb threat and the school had to be evacuated.
  17. Yall need to see this little cutie from WABC named Carolina Leid thats filing reports for 13 from Galveston. Ooh.
  18. I rode out the storm at my apartment in the 18th st and TC Jester area. KTRK was my primary source for hurricane coverage. Afterwards headed down to Corpus to stay with family and now watching KHOU's coverage on TXCN (Im likin' me some Lucy Noland by the way.. shes made my list of hot news chicks). Hey does anyone know if the power is back in my area? Trying to decided whether or not to head back in the morning. Thanks. Is Daniella still at KPRC? I haven't seen her lately.
  19. I liked her too. I would look forward to the news on the weekends when she anchored. Oh man she was hot. She'd come on.. hair poofed up, wearing a choaker and she had a sexy pout when she spoke. I miss her already.
  20. Who's Erik Barajas? These are my favorite abc13 news babes. I met Miya, she's really nice and so hot in person, I'd like to meet Stephanie. Any one know this chicks age? Always wondered that.
  21. No Stephanie has always had them. Oh I noticed them.
  22. The Roxy? On W Alabama or the old Roxy on Westheimer, which was around about that time. How do you know where that was? I've always wondered what place that was. Info please
