  1. You have to understand that Montrose used to be on par with River Oaks. They had HUGE mansions out there - BEAUTIFUL homes. What remains there is a joke - nothing like it used to be. I never understood why the gay community decided to adopt an entire area - especially THAT entire area. It has been the scene of many hate crimes, and God only knows what else - if there had been no "centralized" gay community in Houston, these things wouldn't have happened. I liked it better with the mansions, then it was tolerable when the "hippies" started converting some of them into restaurants, but when the hate crimes started, I realized that the gay community had made a mistake in being so centralized. It's scary to me. They have endured a lot out there, and if I was gay, I think I would try to live outside a gay community. I just never have understood the reason behind it. (no pun intended).
  2. Thank you for your information and kind words. I have lived in Clear Lake since 1991. Obviously, the only hurricane we went through was Rita, and when they started talking storm sugre I didn't understand it. However, 77017 (think Park Place off the Gulf Freeway into downtown) is ALSO in the evacuation zone, same storm surge reason, and there was no storm surge from Alicia. Where would this water be coming from? Thanks for the helpful information. PW
  3. Don't take this as being mean, either, but if we COULD have resolved them by now, we WOULD have resolved them by now!
  4. I would get rid of all the businesses and rebuild it with the type of homes it started out with. I would make it a family community again. It had beautiful mansions, trees, parks. I haven't been there since around 1975, and don't plan to go there unless someone rebuilt it as a family neighborhood.
  5. Also, they have been talking about shelters - and animal friendly ones? Am I to believe that my 86 and 64 pound dogs, 2 cats, myself, my husband, my normal teenage son, and my bi-polar,violent son will be welcomed in a shelter? My 85 year old mother is registered with 211, but she is TOTALLY incapacitated, as in, cannot move. She is refusing to go and lives in zip code 77017. I guess we could conceivably stay with her (animals still an issue) but her zip code is on the evacuation maps as well.
  6. Can someone please explain to me why evacuations started in the first place? I went through Carla,Alicia. and what we got of Rita. I live in Clear Lake, and we are the second zip code list to be evacuated. Until Rita, nobody ever mentioned the words "STORM SURGE" in connections with hurricanes. When and why did this phenomenon start? Do they actually expect me to believe that we will have over 20 feet of water in my subdivision that came all the way from Galveston? Also, regarding the evacuations. What if we just stay here? Are we in danger of being arrested? I evacuated last time, and our circumstances were entirely different than they are now. I want to stay here to protect my home and property. I do NOT want to stay on the road for 28 hours.
  7. I went to school with one of his sons. I was in the first grade - he was my first "crush". I remember when he was killed. He attended our church. I was so sad. Brought back hapy and sad memories at the same time.
  8. I've been through Carla, Alicia, and what there was of Rita. Should I be scared yet?
  9. Well, I love butterflies. Papillion is butterfly in French. The Wyngs part just had a life of its own.
  10. Uh, I am VERY happily married for 4 years now this Thursday, August 28th (Lord willing). So- no thanks!
  11. I'm sorry, CyKat. I just ran down to the bottom of the post and gave my "general wrap up" of the thread. Didn't mean to offend.
  12. Ok, let me step in here a minute. As a former real estate agent, if you aren't an agent, you don't understand an agent's FIRST responsibility is a fiduciary responsibility to his client. That's the FIRST thing - the VERY first thing you learn in real estate school. So if he is with a client, turning off his phone is part of his job. I would do the same - then check the messages as soon as I got through with the closing, showing the listing, taking the listing - whatever. You can't really pass judgment on a person unless you have walked in their shoes. That being said and done - yes, some realtors really are Aholes, but I don't think the original poster is one of them.
  13. That's the 31,000+ square foot one. I meant the larger one- someone said it was 60,000 square feet.
  14. The Burton's used to live on the intersection of Reville and bellfort in a huge mansion. It eventually became a Wienerschnitzel, and they moved to their current residence. By the way, when I was single, he asked me out, too. I refused.
  15. We always shopped at the one in Gulfgate. It made me sick when they closed. When I was working, I went to the one in the Galleria. Loved it. [
  16. And do you remember the bowling alley, pool hall and games up neart the top? Nobody seems to remember them but me.
  17. That's right! My Mom and Dad (when he was alive) had gaoline under their property due to a leaak in the gas station across the street. They put about 20 of these on 2 acres and took them away one at a time. Every once in a while, one will be back - I guess to see if there is still a leak.
  18. The original circle had no stop signs, no traffic lights. THAT WAS DANGEROUS! I gre up out there, and where they are talking about behind ex-Dante's, etc., that is Park Place. My Mother lives on River Drive.
  19. Wow. Well, I was a real estate agent in another life in another state. I do know that a CONTRACE has to be submitted before the agent has a bona fide OFFER. If there is no CONTRACT, then no offer. I would be surprised if, like you say, out of the blue, someone gets mutiple offers on a foreclosure. What does your agent say? No way would I give my highest and best offer. No way. If you aren't happy with your realtor, get another agent. SERIOUSLY. No need for the breaking wheel. Really!
  20. Anyone know why it closed and was torn down? Loved that place! (Not enough, I guess)
  21. Where do you live in Park Place? My Mom lives on River Drive.
