  1. I live in Clear Lake, she lives on Sims Bayou close to downtown.
  2. Tuesday night, Mom, 84 (familiar to those of you who read my posts), fell and hit her hip, head, shoulder and arm. She waits until last night to call attention to it, and her doctor told her to go to ER. I met her at St. John's, where they x-rayed her and pronounced no broken bones. She is/was in a lot of pain, but she could not be admitted - she didn't fit into hospital "criteria". I spent the night with her last night, taking care of her, but she spends her days alone (her choice - rememberr, I have the bi-polar, ADHD, learning disabled adopted son and I have been working for the last two months to get him evaluated and helped) she can afford full - time nursing - but she stays by herself, chancing a fall again. She says that she wants to die in that house (my Dad built it in 1945). Well, last night the topic of the hurricaine came up and she said she couldn't go anywhere, no matter what category the storm will be, and could I stay with her????? She says that she is too sore to go anywhere, and she can't walk - forgot to mention that one. Even if we were best friends, I have a family, she lives RIGHT ON Sims Bayou, and the last evacuation, she was ordered to go. Anyone have any ideas how bad this thing is going to be? Also, Sunday is the last day of option on the house we are buying - we haven't sold this one yet, can't till we move, so we could, potentially, lose two homes. Ever felt that bad luck followed you around????? PW
  3. Well maybe they are counting on the Chinese calander, because nothing has been done to it. Nada.
  4. Thanks so much. I will call him. Thanks. I will call him, too. Need three bids. One I got today was for $1500.00. They say it is a maple and they only live 45 years. The HOUSE isn't that old, but maybe they built with it on the lot already. Anyway, he says it's dead and has to come down. This may be a deal breaker. I hate moving, buying houses, negotiating, etc., etc., etc., - especially RIGHT BEFORE SCHOOL STARTS - which is why we are moving, to go to a desired school!AAARRRGGGHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
  5. I agree. Ask the neighbors. Tell the neighbors.
  6. Do we know exactly where this will be? The only thing that I can see that has big enough sqare footage on El Camino at Bay Area is the former Barney's Billiards - and there is no activity going on in there at all.
  7. What are you going to do with it once you get it fixed up. Please tell me you're not renting it. If you are, go with a realtor.
  8. Wow - nobody knows ANYBODY? Or is everyone irritated with me and I just don't know it?
  9. And we also need a good landscaper because the drainage in the yard is bad due to the city replacing sewer pipes a few years ago. We need a "swale" according to the inspector.
  10. Anyone????? This is probably a deal breaker - so I need to know if there's a good one out there. If someone messes up, it will take down most of the house.
  11. We are trying to buy a house in the Middlebrook section of Clear Lake - downsizing. Found the perfect house for us, unfortunately, the only things wrong are drainage in the yard, and a huge oak tree that may be dying. Anyone know a top-notch tree service that gives free estimates and comes to Clear Lake? Thanks, Papillion
  12. Since I've been through hurricaines Carla, Alicia and Rita - if I can talk my husband into it we will do the following. (I didn't want to leave for Rita, I wanted to ride it out). Oh, and we live in Clear Lake. Cat 1: Nothing. Cat 2: Nothing Cat 3: Get out our hurricaine prepardness kit and ride it out. Cat 4: Pack valuables in the car and take family to Huntsvlle. Cat 5: Evacuate in earnest. Wait and see from reserved hotel room in Austin.
  13. I personally knew Franck Mancuso. He tried really hard to help my parents fight against problems in their neighborhood, and visited personally with them many times. God Bless His Soul.
  14. ...where there used to be a wall. The current homeowners ripped out the wall (I see some like it in the nieghborhood - I wish they'd have kept it) - and now there are traces of mortar up and down the front and side of the house where the wall was. The person who is re-doing the inside of the house told me to match the brick and he'd build me another wall. As much as I would like that - hubby says that an 8 foot high wall in front of the front door (with an opening, of course) is a safety hazard, and he doesn't want it rebuilt Some homeowners took theirs down to 4 feet - some made planter boxes - but, I digress. Anyway to remove those unsightly mortar stains?
  15. Would anyone here consider purchasing a house that had foundation repair done?
  16. Well, I am not yet working, and the rest of the family didn't fall for that house like I did - and I'm over it now - I really am. Everything that we are looking at now has paneling - I hate to paint it - but I hate paneling! A smaller house. We have a bi-polar child, and the bigger house he has to mess up, the more mess there is. I am trying to get everything together for a garage sale this weekend - we may have to have TWO before we move, I don't know. Anyway, I am waiting for an "okay" house - I just don't want something I have to fix up.
  17. My cousin just bought a house in Kemah on Courtsey St. They can HEAR the Boardwalk, but all they can see is the water - everywhere you look. Beautiful house. Hope the coaster won't make them regret their purchase.
  18. We have to get our of our house, and have financing for another. It is a long story concerning a bi-polar son, and a school in our school district that neither of my children need to be subjected to. We have to get out of our house before we can sell it, and our realtor thinks that he can sell it. My problem. My house was built in 1991. It is 1780 sq. feet - two story, master down, gameroom and two bedrooms up. We HAVE to downsize. Problem is, the houses that are within the boundaries that we can afford were either built in the 60's, 70's or. at most, the early 80's. These have more problems than you can imagine from old roofs, ac's, cracked but repaired foundations, etc. We can only afford to move in - can't afford ANY maintenance for a LONG time. We thought we found one about a month ago in Meadowgreen. After inspection, the seller refused to make the repairs, so we walked away (we were just in option). I found my dream house - about $20,000 more than I want to pay. There is a nice house in Middlebrook that is pretty far away from our current home, and it is being fixed up - not flipped, because they are the original owners, and it was a rental house until they decided to sell it. It has a new roof, new ac/heat, new appliances, pergo floors and friese carpet. I love it BUT - the driveway is cracked into a million pieces, and it doesn't sound like they want to pour a new one. I think it's a MOD - you know, I never understood that - but has vaulted ceilings, and the master bedroom has these HUGE doors with no doorknobs - when you close the door, it just looks like a wall. I love this house! But my teenager doesn't care for it, and my husband hasn't seen it, and I think I'm the only one who will care for it. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks. Pap ~!~ !
  19. If you had any idea what my REAL life was like, you might understand why that would give me pleasure for a moment. Sigh. I REALLY don't wish the man or his corporation ill.
