  1. 42 stories?? Oh I hope I hope I hope, but I'm having trouble picturing the exact location, is this the spot by Nordstroms?
  2. So does anyone know the status of Boulvard Place? Is it dead? I know the Westcreek project proposal has come out, and with it being so close to Boulvard Place, it seems like only one will make it out alive.
  3. Well I wasn't thinking exactly like the Navy Pier, maybe something more like a sideways Navy Pier, wide instead of long. Something that would help the Strand out, because as is, The Strand isn't exactly a shopping destination to go out of your way for, unless you want T-shirts. Althought I must admit, I've never been to the Strand at night, so I have no idea if they have a nightlife, but it would be cool to see it with more bars and restaurants also, along with some Navy Pier type thing, then add the other island attractions, like Schlitterbahn and Moody Gardens, and I forgot what my point was, it's too late to be typing Okay, duh, a sideways Navy Pier would be a boardwalk, I'm not always the brightest
  4. Has anyone been to the Navy Pier in Chicago? I'd like to something kinda like that in Galveston. I guess I'm also gaudy at heart.
  5. Wow, that thing is a lot bigger than I thought it would be, I guess just looking at the empty rail yard, it was hard to visualize. Is this a serious proposal, or a dream pie in the sky type thing?
  6. Well it's been a few months since I've driven by the area, but the last time I was around, they were building the Cinemark, putting a Penny's into I think what used to be Lord &Taylor, and Mervy's was still open. Also, there were lots of cleared area's around the place with fences, and banners that said "Watch a city grow" or something like that.
  7. Well they're definately changing the name, I hope they at least keep the uniforms and the colors the same. I don't know why, but I like the colors.
  8. Well I would like to see a IHOP and a Taco Bell. I can't afford Morton's anyways. It's just sometimes at work I get a craving for IHOP or Taco Bell, and I can't find them downtown, which is probably why I end up getting a craving for them in the first place. But I do like the idea of putting a Chilis or Outback in downtown also. I know some people will groan at the thought of large chain type restaurants moving in, but those are good places to go at lunch, and to not even have to leave downtown would be great!
  9. I also wonder what will happen to Bayou Place. They have the Angelika and the Verizon Theater, which are cool, but then they also have Hard Rock, which, I dunno, just seems so 1980s to me. Of course I have no ideas on how to update Bayou Place so that it will complement Pavillions, and not try to compete with it. Maybe somehow cater more to the Theater District crowd?
  10. From what I remember, besides The Oceannaire, there will also be a Kono Grill and Borders and another restaurant.
  11. Yes, a Diesel, I totally forget we don't have one of those, it would be good in the Pavillions. Maybe also a Adidas World or whatever it's called, and a Puma. Some type of neat-o electronic/gadget place. I wonder what other stores Houston doesn't have. I wish there would be news coming out soon on Boulevard Place, a project that seems to have dropped off the face of the planet, I haven't heard anything about it in awhile, I'd like to know what big stores they plan on having to draw people in. I'm sure it would be something upscale where they check your credit before you can enter, like Prada or something.
  12. But the thing is, the Galleria area pretty much already has all the clothing stores covered, so why would someone go all the way downtown for something they could get in Uptown? It's just my opinion, but I think the Pavillions needs those big flashy places like HOB and ESPN Zone to draw in people from around the area, and I agree it also needs retail, but stuff you don't see much of in Houston, such as NikeTown, Virgin Records, H&M, and whatever else. Me personally, I would be satisfied if it was filled with that type of stuff, but I get into that cheesy stuff and think it would be fun, but I live near Memorial City Mall so that's where I go when I need traditional retail. BUt once Pavillions succeeds in bringing in people to downtown, maybe the other retails sites sitting vacant in the area will start filling up with more traditional stuff. But also, the place is covering like three blocks or something, so I'm sure there will be enough for room for the flashy and the traditional retail.
  13. Speaking of, does anyone know why so many proposals for these mega-complexes in Houston are popping up all over the place? Maybe it's a trend all over the country, I dunno, this is the only architecture site I frequent.
  14. So I guess as we get closer to May, they'll be revealing additional tenants here and there? I've never eaten at an Emeril's but it seems like one of those might work there. Oh, and a M&M World. And maybe a GameWorks
  15. Will this be the first actual House of Blues in Texas? I've never been, but I've been told I have to go to their Sunday Gospel Brunch, I guess that is something they're famous for. And if they're gonna be calling Galveston the "Little Easy", they why shouldn't there be a House of Blues around as well!
  16. okay, I have to use Terminal B, so when is it's redo supppose to start? Is it being torn down and rebuilt from scratch? And this airport lingo confuses me, such as "RJ" and "banks of gates."
  17. Won't they fill up with water during rain storms? Or is that kinda the point?
  18. Well lookee here, I looked at the map, and it seems you're right. So they plan on building two of these big honkin projects next to each other on Westheimer? Interesting. So there's those two, Boulevard Place, Pavillions, Town&Country Center, the Memorial City "City" project, the project on Richmond at the HISH HQ. I have faith some of these will get built, just "when." Hopefully something breaks ground this year.
  19. That's the project they plan on building at the old car dealership, yeah? Looks nice, and bigger than I thought. Now if only one of these big ambitious projects would actually break ground.
  20. Maybe the lineup just has to do with timing. It seems the non country acts in the past were already on tour when they came to Houston, or had a new album to promote. Maybe this year there just weren't as many artists out the there the Rodeo could get, not an effort by the Rodeo to go backwards. For instance, Beyonce is busy making a movie right now. Anyways, that's just my theory, I don't actually know what went into the Rodeo picking process. But Houston native Hilary Duff is returning this year, but hopefully someone else can outsell her, it just doesn't seem right for Hilary Duff to have the Rodeo attendance record.
  21. I was at the Galleria and noticed they're putting a "The Oceannaire" restaurant in the Lord & Taylor space. I've been to one in California, it's pretty good, but kinda expensive from what I remember. Oh, and the empty land next to Lakewood has been cleared and all that, what are they building there, I didn't see any signs. Is it maybe a church expansion?
