  1. They could re-facade (<---is that the word I'm looking for?) the GRB, and add another level on top, removing the smokestacks. Then it would be less ugly.
  2. Ha, at #482 on the F500 is a Houston based company called "BJ Services," lol. Sorry, that was probably immature
  3. Hopefully they can show some patience, we're trying to get a stadium built near downtown, there are lots of hoops to jump through. I'm sure if they wanted the stadium built in the suburbs, the deal would already be done and construction started. This will be worth the wait.
  4. "Holla" on the Becks Prime, their hickory cheeseburgers are delish. Although the one on Westheimer near the Galleria is the only one worth going to because you can sit out on the deck under that giant oak tree.
  5. I hope it's a nice and modern design, instead of them building it to look like a giant warehouse to match the surroundings.
  6. That's great, your pics, along with a few others, really are great, especially for those of us who like to keep up with progress in Houston while not living there.
  7. I can't believe how crazy big that Outpatient center is
  8. Okay, thanks ProHouston. I don't really know my Texas history, I only recently learned what the San Jacinto Monument is all about. So does anyone plan on taking their dog to test out the "dog run?"
  9. Where did ENGcons go? Any new info on this? Are they really going to make it taller and turn it into a supertall?
  10. Until BLVD Place can establish itself as a place people will go and shop, I think retailers will still prefer to get into the Galleria. The Galleria is swarming with people ready to spend money. I think they will eventually build a Galleria 5 though. BLVD Place is competition to whoever it is that owns the Galleria. Although they will have to get creative as to how they build it, I don't see much open land around there.
  11. I wonder if they'll ever build that rumored Galleria 5. Seems like they might not need to, with BLVD Place going up and also River Oaks District. Although I'm sure retailers would rather get space in the Galleria, it's like the Holy Land or something. Also, the old Galleria 3 Macys, maybe they could turn in into an Angelica like movie theater. I know both Edwards are nearby, but with all the condos coming to Uptown, I think a theater in the Galleria will be fine. And then for the rest of the space in Galleria 3, just turn them into more restaurants I guess. Galleria 3 is just awkward, you have to go through Saks to get to it, and so many people get to Saks and think they are at the end, they don't know Galleria 3 is on the other side. It's no man's land over there. Is the Galleria ever going to get a Diesel?
  12. So we only got about 6 more months to wait until this thing opens, right?
  13. If they tear down the Prudential, hopefully they replace it with something other than a box. Something purty.
  14. So why are they tearing the Prudential down? Is it land MD already owns? Or is the TMC at a point now where there is so little available land left, they have to start tearing down older buildings? I don't drive around the TMC, but looking at pictures, I don't recall seeing surface parking lots.
  15. Why are for-profit organizations not allowed in the TMC? Seems like that kind of money, like from drug companies, would help the TMC have more than a boom, like maybe a super boom.
  16. San Diego has a 500ft limit also, I didn't know the TMC did. Although something about that doesn't seem right, I remember reading an article that said once the TMC ran out of land, they'd have to start building very tall, which would be hard to do if there was a 500ft limit. I've never seen anywhere that said the TMC has a height limit, but maybe it is somewhere in the rules for building on the campus.
  17. Well the Gateway tract on the west side is supposed to be around 50 stories, I think. The ones most likely to build a supertall in Houston are the energy/oil companies, but with gas prices the way they are, apparently they don't want to flaunt their wealth with supertall trophy buildings. I'm torn, I'd really love to see a supertall in Houston, but I don't know if want it to be at the expense of getting to lose more surface parking lots on the east side. For right now, it seems either a supertall, or building smaller buildings on parking lots on the east side, but not both.
  18. People aren't interested in this project because it's a La Quinta, but because it's being built downtown. It's not something that is very common yet for downtown. And it gets rid of another surface parking lot, and in theory, the more hotel rooms we can get near the GRB, then maybe we can get more conventions.
  19. 3-5 decades?! Who has that kind of time! I can't wait until 2050 to see those downtown blocks get filled up, I'll be senile by then and won't even know what's going on. No, they need to get'er done in 1 decade, so write your congressman or whoever it is that makes this kind of thing happen. So does anyone think the property across from BLVD place will get the mixed-used treatment? I could see them putting lipstick on that pig for now, and then in a few years, maybe 2012-13, when the market is ready for more absorption, razing the place and building another BLVD Place/Oaks District type project. With the way Uptown is going, I can't see that other strip center, the one with Container Store, surviving another 10 years either. Or maybe it's just wishful thinking.
  20. I'm all for density also, but when it comes to Uptown, I don't really think it matters. There is no grid street pattern, so might as well be a cool looking tall tower. If this was downtown, then I'd be all for two towers at 30 story. I don't know how to explain what I'm saying, I just know my thought is that density isn't as important Uptown as inside the loop. This isn't going to make sense to anyone.
  21. Interesting. When all these mix-used projects were announced, I figured at least one proposal had to die, and this was the one I guessed wouldn't make it. Opps. Now this one and BLVD have started, while Pavillions and West Ave are way along. That just leaves Oaks District and Regent Square, neither one of which seem like they are going to fail at this point.
  22. Waste Management is sponsoring one of the gardens. It's one of the smaller gardens though, so I wonder if the size of the garden indicates how much someone donated to the project.
  23. eminent domain, blah blah blah. What I really care about is could the 66-story tower really turn into 2 30-story towers? They already made a rendering for the 66-story tower. I was looking forward to something tall. Not sure how it really affects my life though, except to have something new to look at while on the west loop.
