  1. Okay, thanks ProHouston. I don't really know my Texas history, I only recently learned what the San Jacinto Monument is all about. So does anyone plan on taking their dog to test out the "dog run?"
  2. It's amazing I wasn't a fat kid, because I would eat mcnuggets like they were going out of style. After soccer, mom would take me to McDonalds and I'd order the 20 piece combo meal, with an extra 20 piece on the side. Then when day I got sick after eating McNuggets, and ever since then, the though of eating Mcnuggets makes my stomach turn. Do they even offer the 20 piece anymore? However, I can still eat Wendys chicken nuggets like a champ!
  3. I'd like to see them trench the freeway and have to demolish the Greyhound bus station to do it! roadrunner is right, Houston's construction is spread out. When I think about it, there is a lot more going on than I think about, but since it's not concentrated, it doesn't seem as much. There will be something built in Musuem District, then something in Westchase, then Uptown, then Downtown, then TMC, then someplace random. Oh, and back on topic, I drove through Dallas a few weeks ago, and their Uptown is much more impressive than it seems from just looking at the pics here.
  4. What do people feel about eating at a restaurant alone? I wanted Pappasitos the other night, but I couldn't find anyone to go with me, and since I feel uncomfortable sitting at a table by myself in a restaurant, I had no Pappasitos. I was sad.
  5. Where did ENGcons go? Any new info on this? Are they really going to make it taller and turn it into a supertall?
  6. I agree with citykid, Ritz seems more like a downtown hotel. But it doesn't really matter, seeing as it and the W are both likely going with Uptown. Hopefully downtown will see something like a Mandarin, Shangri-La, Penisula, or anything along those lines. And with the Ritz, I hope it gets built at that rumored 66 stories. I'm afraid this whole credit/mortage/whatever crisis will severely shrink the Ritz. On the other hand, prices should be cheaper for all those rich South Americans and Middle Easterners. They could buy condos in the Ritz or whatever just for storage.
  7. HAIF seemed the most active during the "will it or won't it get built" Houston Pavillions debate. People were passionate about that one. Now it's only a few months away from being complete.
  8. Until BLVD Place can establish itself as a place people will go and shop, I think retailers will still prefer to get into the Galleria. The Galleria is swarming with people ready to spend money. I think they will eventually build a Galleria 5 though. BLVD Place is competition to whoever it is that owns the Galleria. Although they will have to get creative as to how they build it, I don't see much open land around there.
  9. I wonder if they'll ever build that rumored Galleria 5. Seems like they might not need to, with BLVD Place going up and also River Oaks District. Although I'm sure retailers would rather get space in the Galleria, it's like the Holy Land or something. Also, the old Galleria 3 Macys, maybe they could turn in into an Angelica like movie theater. I know both Edwards are nearby, but with all the condos coming to Uptown, I think a theater in the Galleria will be fine. And then for the rest of the space in Galleria 3, just turn them into more restaurants I guess. Galleria 3 is just awkward, you have to go through Saks to get to it, and so many people get to Saks and think they are at the end, they don't know Galleria 3 is on the other side. It's no man's land over there. Is the Galleria ever going to get a Diesel?
  10. Kinda. They've built apartments on the site, but that's about all I know.
  11. So we only got about 6 more months to wait until this thing opens, right?
  12. I worked at Service Merchandise for my first job back in the day, when I was 15. Most of their stuff was crap.
  13. So are we the 5th largest metro now? And could we reach 6 million by the 2010 census?
  14. If they got Devon to sign, that alone would cover the 50% needed for construction to start, I would think.
  15. If they tear down the Prudential, hopefully they replace it with something other than a box. Something purty.
  16. So why are they tearing the Prudential down? Is it land MD already owns? Or is the TMC at a point now where there is so little available land left, they have to start tearing down older buildings? I don't drive around the TMC, but looking at pictures, I don't recall seeing surface parking lots.
  17. This is the opposite, but I recently went to Pappasitos, and had pretty much one of the best waitress experiences. She was great, so friendly, attentive, etc.. When we left I asked to see the manager, the manager comes out looking ready to apologize for something, and I let him know how great the waitress was and all that. I'll let management know when service was crap, but I'll also let management know when one of their employees went above and beyond. Also, if you get crap service, I suggest the complain to managment method over the stiff the tip method. Complaining to managment more times than not will get you a gift certificate for your next visit, or something like that.
  18. Why are for-profit organizations not allowed in the TMC? Seems like that kind of money, like from drug companies, would help the TMC have more than a boom, like maybe a super boom.
  19. I'm guessing maybe you've seen a rendering, and if you have, I must know, is it west wall worthy? This building is going to be out there in front, for all to see, on pretty much the most photographed side of downtown. Would be a shame if it's another effing box.
  20. Well if they need to lease 50% of the space before construction starts, it seems like there would be a rendering somewhere that they use to show to potential tenants. Maybe someone will leak the rendering
  21. San Diego has a 500ft limit also, I didn't know the TMC did. Although something about that doesn't seem right, I remember reading an article that said once the TMC ran out of land, they'd have to start building very tall, which would be hard to do if there was a 500ft limit. I've never seen anywhere that said the TMC has a height limit, but maybe it is somewhere in the rules for building on the campus.
  22. Well the Gateway tract on the west side is supposed to be around 50 stories, I think. The ones most likely to build a supertall in Houston are the energy/oil companies, but with gas prices the way they are, apparently they don't want to flaunt their wealth with supertall trophy buildings. I'm torn, I'd really love to see a supertall in Houston, but I don't know if want it to be at the expense of getting to lose more surface parking lots on the east side. For right now, it seems either a supertall, or building smaller buildings on parking lots on the east side, but not both.
  23. You know what Niche looks like? Or where you just guessing? When I read posts by people, I associate a face with them, usually from what they post. If I read a post from Lockmat, I picture that guy from American Idol who said he slept with Paula Abdul, I'm pretty sure his name is Cory Clark, I think maybe because of the hair. When I read a KimberlySayWhat post, I picture her as the character "Rose" from Lost, even though I have no idea if she's a strong confident black woman. Niche I picture as that guy from Seinfeld, can't remember his name, Elaine used to work for him (Mr Peterson maybe?) and he was on the first season of Dancing with the Stars also. RedScare I get the dad from That 70's Show. I don't do it on purpose, but I guess my mind has to associate a face with a post.
