  1. Ultimately, one can only fly where there is a runway built to handle a large jet aircraft. How is that any more or less versatile than a train that can only go where there's a rail terminal? Moreover, though, I can't count the number of times I've been stranded on a runway in a line, waiting for takeoff. I can't count the number of times that my flight has been delayed/cancelled due to weather--sometimes they can be rerouted to another airport, but usually not if it is in the same city. How is that more versatile as compared to a rail system that is less subject to runway congestion or weather???

The only consistently profitable airline is Southwest, and that is only because they had the financial sense to hedge their fuel prices. And all airlines are subsidized by the government by way of AIRPORTS!!!

I was thinking you were a pretty smart guy, im losing faith in you. I thought for sure you would know better than that.

  2. Again, hilarious and now a bit absurd. Comparing seat mile cost of highspeed trains to that of profitable airlines, which does cost billions of tax dollars to get going, is absurd. No way is a fix based system such as a train better to that of a versatile airplane at a profitable and consistently profitable airline. An airline by the way which doesnt exist on government subsidies :lol:

Im still waiting to hear about these government subsidies to the airlines which would also help trains.

  3. The high cost of fuel is pushing up the cost of airfare......if only that were true. Americans enjoy cheap air travel. The planes have never been more full. Comparing the EU to the US as far as "options" in mass transit is hilarious

  4. You don't want to employ people for the sake of employing them, you want productivity. Sounds like big government wants to promote their big government inefficiency to businesses.

    What are you talking about?

You don't even know what the price would be.

Last year I flew from London to Amerstdam on KLM for $150.00 USD. They also had a train/ferry service for $125.00 USD but it took longer.

The Eurostar was even more than that.

Keep speaking. Each time you share just a little more to prove my point. People that spend time traveling should get the point easily.

  5. Connecting Houston, Dallas, Austin, and San Antonio using this high-speed rail technology would not be the death of airlines.

Also, the point of having airports is not to employ people, but to move them. If it can be done more efficiently and Houston-Dallas route is so high-traffic, then the project has legs to stand on. If it can save money, then people will spend less on transportation (or subsidies to transportation) and more on other consumption items. It would be good for the Texas economy, as mobility always is, and would free up gates at airports for flights to other destinations, preventing the need to undertake expensive capital expansion projects so soon.

    WHAT?!?!?!?!

  6. a little off topic, but since houston has so much more room, and NYC is basically at capacity, do you think houston could ever catch and pass NYC in total towers/people, also when? and how about the other chicago and LA as well.

    I hope not!!

I like the tall towers to be built here, but never on the scale of NYC. The NYC skyline only looks good under the cover of darkness. Those amount of towers here would certainly have a negative affect on wind and wind force. Those things magnify the effects of wind and generate thier own wind patterns.

I also never want to see the population of NYC placed here either. The larger the number of people the larger the chances of idiots and degenerates flowing into the city.

  7. Without state and federal funding, it wouldn't be feasable, and they had strong opposition from the Texas Airlines.

and other cities. If i had to make a choice between trains and airlines as a gov. official, i would choose the airlines everytime. They employ thousands of employees right here in Texas-Houton and Dallas/Ft Worth in particular. Those employees buy homes cars pay taxes all of which amount to much more economic revenue for the state and local economies than would a highspeed train system. The Houston-Dallas corridor is one of the most frequently flown routes in the USA.

  8. Surely you guys are joking when you place trains ahead of flying, especially for the east coast. The perks you get from the east coast flights, like the ones Kinkaid would take are wonderful. My first 2 yrs at my current company, i lived on the USAir and Delta Shuttles. BOS-DCA-LGA are all Shuttle flights which come with many perks and benefits. The Shuttle is also hourly.

As far as SWA is concerned, it wouldnt be worth it for me. The perks they have dont fit into my ideal of good.

  9. I hope they (the MUDs) don't sellout. They'll be better off retaining their sovereignty should Cypress incorporate.

This has about a good a chance of happening as hogs suddenly becoming kosher :lol:

Limited Purpose Annexation is here to stay.

  10. I agree -- this area is starving for decent shopping. For those of us along the nether reaches of 290, Willowbrook is just horrible to get to -- I drive all the way to Memorial City when I need to go to a mall.

I like anything that will get the excess traffic away from Willowbrook. How fast can they get this thing done?!?!?!?

  11. This charge is only being used to pay for recycling or heavy trash pickup. Regular automated trash pickup is still paid for by taxpayers. So why not allow for an opt-out option, giving residents the ability to refuse recycling service if they don't wanna pay the bill and charging them for heavy trash pickup every time they request it.

Why not slash the salaries of the entire city council in half since it obviously isnt a motivator for attracting talent in its current form. Lets look at council reductions before any raise in fees/taxes.

  12. I have said this before.......

The mounting antisemitism and anti Israel behavior thats occuring in Europe is due large in part to the huge influx from the middle east and north Africa. In my work i often deal with politicians in Britain and Germany. I have heard, unofficially, that many of them dont believe in or support that anti-semitic docturine, but they keep hush in order not to make waves. In other words, they are afraid. One would only have to look at the firestorm of hatred that occurred over a cartoon to see the agenda thats being carried out there. Sad is the day when you began to feel like a stranger in your own land.

  13. Yep, this was in today's Chronicle as well. This would really have a devastating affect on the cleanliness of Houston. I can already imagine the piles of trash that would be found throughout houston.

...and eventually would have their heavy trash picked up only twice a year, under a mayoral task force proposal presented Monday to the City Council.

The head clown is going further off the deep end. Imagine the sorts of vermon and mosquitos and other critters such as snakes and racoons that will be attracted to mounting piles of garbage. Things like this happen when you let lunatics run the assylum.

  14. That proposed fee is stupid. Just another excessive government revenue venture. I have said before that the Houston City Council is a 3 ring circus and Bill White is the head clown. I am not convinced the government can spend my money better than i can. They need to focus on ways of getting thier hands out of the pockets of tax payers and not looking for ways to dig deeper into the pockets of taxpayers.

  15. It is true. I believe the reason is for the 911 system...you don't want duplicate street names in different parts of the county when the emergency personnel are looking for your house.

    Huh?

The easiest one is Main St.

You will find Main St. in Houston, Galena Park, Pasadena, Spring and South Houston. Someone should notify 911 that some street names are duplicates in different areas of Harris County.

Another off the top of my head is Southmore. Theres a Southmore in both Houston and Pasadena.
