  1. Chicago is way more international than Houston. That is pretty damn obvious.

I love Houston to no end, but i it is not more international than Chicago, you are most correct.

That little airline called United Airlines, which is the 2nd largest in the country and the 2nd largest in the world, goes a long way to help bolster that international presence.

  2. They are independent yet that's still where commuter rail would be geared to go? Isn't that contradictory? I'm guessing that's not what you meant.

You meant that since they're independent, then commuter rail would not be going there.

Even so, are we making all these lines just for people to get to work? I'm sure it's a big part, but not the only reason why.

Please reread what i said. They are not independent, they are becoming more independent of dwntwn. Downtown is fast becoming less and less the center of business in Houston. Commuter rail will more than likely be used by the business travelers. The communities from which they will come are being built as self contained neighborhoods. Theres really no need to leave other than work. Case in point, i reside in the Champions area of Houston. Just about everything i need is within a 3-4 mile radius of my home. My car is approaching 3 yrs old and i only have a little over 13,800 miles on it. Many if not most of the aboved mentioned neighborhoods/areas are the same way ;)

People that reside here and the other neighborhoods are not the sort, atleast in large part, that will get on a train to head into the city center for anything other than work. That work is typically Mon-Fri, not Sat. and Sun. ;)

  3. What about a commuter rail meeting the future expansion of the North Line at the beltway? It seems like the Conroe/Woodlands/Spring area is to valuable to leave out.

    I don't know.

I dont see those people working in dwntwn in very large numbers in the future. The northern, northwestern and western parts of Houston and Harris County are taking on lives of there own, independant of dwntwn, which is where commuter rail would be geared to go.

  4. I don't see it happening for the north and west sections I DO see it happening in the future for 59 (sugarland/Richmond/victoria), 288 (pearland and points south), and 45 (El Dorado, clear Lake, etc) areas before the others (including Katy) because there is so much growth there, also, in a pinch, it could help out with evacuations into the city during Hurricane season.

    Agreed.

  5. Okay ... this is my last review on B4-u-Eat for D&D's if anyone is interested and happens to be out by 1960 and having a taste for 'soul food'.

    Enjoy.

You have recommended this place before. I am going to try it soon, promise :)

If it is bad im going to be mad at you ;)

I just have to talk myself into driving east down that traffic hell called FM 1960 :D

  6. Based on the fact that there are two types of people: those who have children, those who do not.

The first group, already thinks that their own little vagina byproducts are god's gift to mankind, so why would they want to look at pictures of somebody else's?

The latter group, for the most part, could care less about children, otherwise they'd already have their own. Of course there are some exceptions to this group, such as those who want them but don't quite have them yet, and those who can't have any.

Let me guess, you believe in kosher hogs and heavenly devils too, right?:wacko::wacko:

  7. We live in very disturbing times I seen a video of a kid smoking pot and letting a 5-8 year old hit it you all proubly seen it. I been there and done that it will destroy your life and at a such of a young age. My parents were from the Woodstock era they would never do that. I blame it on bad influences like Peer pressure I started partying at age 14 and it ruined my life hey parents smell your kids breath when they walk in the door and don't be scared to search there room head 2 toe.

I saw the video on the news with the kids, babies smoking pot. I think now they are saying that there was other substances in thier systems as well. Thats completely horrific in my book!

As far as partying.......my oldest boy thought it would be a good idea if he and his buddies would get my youngest son drunk for his 16th birthday. Very bad move! When they got home i was working in the home office as usual, so they got by me. After about maybe 10 minutes, the wife came into the office and asked me if i smelled the scent of alcohol in the air. She suspected the boys had been drinking. I told her, if you smelled it, they are drunk and i will handle it.

It was middle of summer on one of those hot sticky nights where its like 90 degrees at 11pm. The house was nice and cool. I waited until they were in a nice alcohol induced sleep, and i shut off the air to the upstairs and turned on the heat. I let the heat go at about 80 degrees for an hour. Any of you here that have been completely drunk should know that heat and alcohol dont mix. Like planned, the boys were jolted out of sleep and made a mad dash for the toilet to throw up. Of course i went to check on them and they assured me all was fine :lol:

I went downstairs and turned off the heat to the upstairs and proceeded to the kitchen to take 2 beers out. I let the 2 beers sit on the counter all night to get nice and warm.

In my house we eat breakfast and dinner together as a family. Lunch is every man for himself. That said, our breakfast time is promptly at 7:30am unless otherwise noted. They know not to be late. Right at 7:30am here comes my boys, looking as best they could, hung over as hell, to sit at the breakfast table. The wife and i had a nice spread for us and for them i had 2 tall glasses that i heated up just 2 minutes before with hot water > :) > :)

I placed the empty hot glasses in front of them and proceeded to serve them thier breakfast. Thier breakfast was warm beer in a hot glass. The scent of that beer sent them running to the toilet to throw up > :) > :)

I met them there and explained to them that if they are going to engage in adult activities while they are teens, i will adjust my treatment of them accordingly-meaning cross me and i will make you regret it.

Long story short, that was the first and last time they did that  They call me the Admiral behind my back :lol:

  8. My aunt was a flight attendant for Delta for 31 years. She has experienced a ton of crazy stuff, but she says nothing tops the flight where she sat next to Richard Pryor for about a hour or so talking to him about his life and experiences, she says that is right up there next to the time Donnie Wahlberg(New Kids on The Block) punched another passenger on a flight, and chaos ensued.

Your aunt and my dad have Delta Airlines in common.

He had an incident a few years before he retired, with 4 guys from NYC going golfing. These guys apparently were a bit intoxicated and causing a bit of a stir in the boarding area. They talked with whom they thought was the captain and told him not to crash the plane..ha ha, big laugh they had.

Everyone boards the flight and it takes off for Delta's Mecca A*K*A Atlanta

Half way through the flight, these guys became even more rowdy and down right rude. The flight attendants working the area where they were went to the front and got the lead flight attendant to go to the back to speak with these guys and get them to calm down. The lead flight attendant was a male. Apparently he was a gay male that was a bit feminine. These guys called him several derogatory names, which i will not repeat here, and proceded to get louder. He told them that if they didnt stop, he would have to inform the captain. Again the insults about his sexuallity got even worst and they dared him to get the captain.

He went to the cockpit in tears and explained to the captain what was going on. The captain on that flight was my dad. Immediately incensed, he got up from his seat and went charging down the aisle to the back section of the plane where these guys were seated. Dad said they were so loud he could hear them even before he got to the back section.

Keep in mind, these guys think the captain was the guy they spoke with in the boarding area. He stood about 5'8" maybe 155 lbs, in my dads words, "he was no bigger than a minute"

Seeing my dad coming, one of the flight attendants warned the guys, "the captain is on the way".

When they looked up from thier drunken state and saw this massive wall of man coming quickly towards them in a pilots uniform, dad said they sobered up real fast

My dad is a 6' 4.5" tall and about 300 lbs. black guy, which can make an angry face that would scare satan!

He told them to "shut up and listen"in his thunderous voice that my brother and i are all too familiar with. ^_^

He let them know that he was doing them a favor by coming back to speak with them first before taking action. He told them that thier behavior was shi**y and that each one of them was going to apologize right now to his lead flight attendant. They did. Then they apologized to the others and apologized to my dad. They also apologized to the other passengers around them. Everything out of thier mouths was yes sir and no sir. This from the big bad Ny'ers going on a golfing trip, which didnt previously feel the need to give "servants" any respect.

He then explained to them that if he heard so much as 1 tone above a whisper from them, he would make an emergency landing and have them removed from the flight, which would cause them to pay Delta Airlines the cost of fuel to land and refuel to continue on to Atlanta. They would be denied passage on other Delta flights and he would choose the smallest out of the way airport that was capable of handling the L 1011, to add to thier troubles. When he finished with his very CREDIBLE threat, he demanded that each of them one by one give him a "verbal confirmation that they understood he wasnt F'ing around", something that my brother and i are very familiar with. They did and the rest of the flight was uneventful.

I had to clean up the language a bit for this forum. The story as relayed to me by my dad was chocked full of expletives

This happened of course before 9-11. Now the pilots are barricaded in the cockpit and are not allowed to come out :(

Sorry this post was so long

  9. I don't do park 'n ride, but don't we have a great P&R system in H-town? I talk with the folks at work who swear by it ... 20 minutes from Sugar Land or Katy or Woodlands (30 I think) but all in all .... it works. The bus may emit foul air, but if one breaks down, another can easily replace. Once your train is broken, it isn't that easy (I remember my months in SF). Anyhow, Houston isn't totally in the dark ages. We are slower with rail, but faster with HOV. B)

I have neighbors that drive to the Seton Lake Park and Ride and they are very happy with it. Not sure but i think it is bus 121 or 212 something like that.

  10. Just speaking from personal experience......

When my boys were kids, it was not up to them to decide what was right or what was wrong. Me and the wife decided that for them. It was our job to be the guiding force in thier lives and tell as well as teach them right from wrong. For parents to allow thier children the freedom to make decisions that should be made by adults is an absolute failure and it represents a complete break down in the roles of parent and child. That is something which is UNACCEPTABLE in my home.

would you take a 5 yr old to a violent movie?

When my boys were younger, they didnt see any movie unless the wife and i saw it first and deemed it to be ok for them to see.

  11. Keep the apartments out!!!!! If they tell you that they are upscale, still protest. Upscale apartments in these areas dont tend to stay that way for long. I have said time and time again, people would rather pay a high mortgage over a high rent, meaning the folks that primarily reside in these areas are homeowners. That will FACT will force the owners of the apartments to drop the rents which in turn will attract a not so savory element. Beware of the apts.!!!

  12. It's been a few years since METRO discontinued night owl service, primarily on the only one to have it: Route 82 Westheimer.

What were the ridership numbers for this route? Was it discontinued due to low ridership numbers or because of bus and bus driver shortages?
