Can someone slap a photo of this school so we can all see it? By numbered does this mean to be razed or remodeled or reinvented as a different curriculum.
Numbered meaning its going to close due to consolidation.
Its on Elgin @ HWY 288 bordered by Chenevert on one side
Right near all of the townhouse and condo developments. The single family homes that were there have been replaced by the townhomes and condos. Its a safe bet that most of the new residents do not have kids. Without kids in the area to attend the school, the school is no longer useful. With that said, do some of you still think Midtown was geared for families?

I'm pretty sure they do market studies and come up with something 'attractive' for their target market. There are attractive module designs.
I should hope so.

It was about 10:30 in the morning, on a nice, bright, perfect day. The kind of day that makes you wish you could walk around to shops and cafes if only they existed in Midtown. But they don't because of the Greyhound station.
The first time it happened was about 4 years ago just after dark on a week night. A guy was walking across the street when he stopped in the middle of the street and let loose in front of me on the crosswalk on Webster. I do think he was severely drunk and/or "mentally disadvantaged". The guy Saturday was just being an a**hole.
I did have some friends' Midtown townhome robbed a few years ago by a guy who had been released from prison that morning. He said he had just started walking from the bus station, got hungry, and needed some money (he was caught in the act by a neighbor). They moved shortly thereafter.
Doesnt sound very good. I should hope 2016 Main has some sort of security to prevent undesirables from the bus station and in general from gaining ready access.

How about this one? Sparkling Wiggles

I don't know if this has been posted but top 10 counties for growth:
http://money.cnn.com/galleries/2007/real_e...ties/index.html
Harris, Tarrant, Bexar, Collin and Dallas counties made the list. Texas has half the list.
Jason
Of course Texas is half the list, we do everything bigger and better in Texas

Great. And keep stunting the development of Midtown within 5 blocks of the bus station.
I am perhaps a bit bitter as Sat morning I took my old Porsche out for a spin. I got caught at the light, and some guy fresh off the bus dropped his bag, walked close to my car, and pulled out his johnson in an apparent attempt to urinate on my wheel. (I ran the light). Here's the kicker - that's the second time that exact scenario has happened to me by the bus station.
Midtown will never become a desirable place to live as long as the bus station stays in its current location. That's just reality.
Wow!
Thats a nasty experience, twice! I wonder how many of those people are mentally ill? I have been driving by there about once a week at different times looking at the area. I am interested in 2016 Main. Each time i have driven by the situation doesnt seem to be bad. I havent been on a weekend and maybe i should to get a better feel of the area.
Was your spin in early, mid, or late morning?

Im always sad to hear of layoffs like this. but the only successful mergers and takeovers are the ones that combine opts. and cut off the overlaps--excess fat. The quicker the better. :(

In terms of facilities and ease, Gatwick is superior to Heathrow. The reason the US carriers are seeking Heathrow so badly is because of all the potential inter-line connections that can be made on foreign carriers. As far as the Gatwick Express goes, its a nice ride into Victoria Station. Have you not been on the new trains? The problem i have with the Gatwick Express is the damned cost! The Queen is an expensive gal :(

i know the last time i went to europe on travel with coworkers. one got in a wreck and another got hit by a train at street grade. and i haven't been back
Europe has been like a second home for me. Im out of the US 150-180 days a yr. In all of that time i have never witnessed a wreck and thier trains are at street level. Trains dont cause wrecks, people do. In Houston, we just have to learn to pay attention to the streets and those around us---you know like you are taught when you first learn to drive.

Since when do illegals fill out census forms?

Very unattractive designs.

There's a silver lining - I've read that sandcastle enthusiasts rank Galveston's sand as among the best.
From AIA Sandcastle Competition:
For almost two decades in the first part of June, Houston area architects, designers, engineers and contractors have taken their tools to East Beach in Galveston for what is considered one of the world

But they shouldn't be on the streets like they are.
Right. Lets elevate them because everyone knows no one lives, works or walks on the ground...............
-
The way Houston built its METRO Rail doesn't make since to me. The damn trains stop traffic and cause accidents. They should have taken the thing off of the busy streets giving it its own right of way or elevate the damn thing. I keep hearing people talk about Richmond, Richmond, put it on Richmond! But why? Having the rail down Richmond will cause more wrecks and traffic having to stop due to the train. Rail should be fast and take people to destinations without interrupting other things. Here are better ways:
Elevating the line
Partial or full subway
Own right of way.
These alternatives will allow for longer trains, carry more people, NOT stop traffic, and NOT cause wrecks or major accidents.
Trains dont cause wrecks, irresponsible drivers do. The ridership of said trains are on the ground not in some elevated path in the sky. Having these trains as high speed vehicles is stupid. They are in place to serve the inner city riders which would require frequent stops to serve those riders more effectively.

Sorry, picturing kids dangling from their sides wearing lap or shoulder belts is just trouble waiting to happen.
Priceless
The seat belts i have seen on school busses are not the lap belt type. They are harnesses. The harness belt doesnt allow for dangling.

go get put on the red light camera committee. i was driving on scott at 610 and they installed one there. it would only let 3 cars through before the light changed. took 10-15 mins to get thru the intersection
Based on what you say here, it sounds to me like the makings of a city cash cow in tickets.

A free flowing blob of open space, dangling on the edge of the middle of nowhere, with no sence of cohesion. Thats what i think the geography of Cypress is.
-
It's a safe bet that I put more miles in the streets any quite a number of you every day,
Thats a safe bet when its put against me. My auto is approaching 3 years old and it only has about 13,800 miles on it. I put more miles on airplanes than my car
-
Monetary reasons should not even enter the mind of anyone when considering seatbelts for safety. I'm lead to believe no group of decision makers are ignorant enough to think that way. If so, they should lose their jobs...and that would be a lot of people.
You would be suprised how often it happens. Keeping low monetary expenditures trump safety in MANY areas, happens a lot, unfortunately.
-
Seatbelts should have been placed on school busses long ago. The only reason i can think of as to why it wasnt done is monetary. The upfront cost probably wasnt attractive, and it isnt an investment in which a district can get its expenditure cost back-----such as giving out tickets to students that dont wear the belts, as a policeman would do to you in your own automobile. Letting kids remain unrestrained, to be thrown about the cabin of a bus and end up with serious and or life threatening injuries in a serious accident, is nothing short of a jackassed approach to safety.
And did you guys ride the bus when you were a kid?No I didnt.
would you let your child do this?

Not only is that not funny, its very poor taste. The person or persons responsible for that should have his/her head bashed right the hell in since its obviously empty of common sense!!!!
