  1. Most of what he says with regards to downtown is true. But then again what do you expect, we aren't a tourist attraction city or even pedestrian friendly (yet) ! If he wants that then he should have gone to San Fran or Manhattan.
  2. I did see that news cast awhile back, maybe last month. I thought that it was disgusting the way some of this mans neighbors responded. Something to the effect of, if he didn't want those problems he should not have bought the house (wow, what a nice welcome to the neighborhood attitude). I guess the HOA wants an empty home on a bus line rather than a homeowner trying to keep his yard clean.
  3. Pearland has its own school district. It was one of the top school districts in the area, not sure if that is the case anymore. Where in Pearland is it zoned to Alvin?
  4. Oh they are there generally, begging and accosting woman. Just the other week I almost got into it with a guy who said "youra fine delicate flower, lets hook up" to a woman! (She seemed upset, yet kept walking.... and I couldn't just ignore it) I try to not walk near there due to the smell! (I actually saw today someone working on the overhang roof -- some type of repair). That is prime real-estate, I don't know why something better is not in that corner!
  5. Isn't there already an AT&T store a block away? In the corner of the Reliant Building?
  6. What do you all think about a law making it illegal to picket in or near residential areas? One of my biggest issues is picketing in or near residential areas, kind of what the Keys Middle School parents are doing at the HISD superintendents' house. I do not think anyone should be allowed under any circumstance to do this. You are interrupting peoples personal life and that is not fair! -- my huge problem was last year when the cleaning crews were picketing for better wages until 10 and 11 pm at night, they were picketing a block away from where I live and I came home around 9 and went to HPD headquarters and asked to file a complaint, they said I could not! I have sent letters to Rep. Jackson and Mayor White and have yet to hear from them, other than a fake letter from them emailed to me, saying they care about my complaint. I understand people have personal issues such as these at times, and picketing at the appropriate business is fine, however when it affects other peoples personal space (noise space in this sense) there is a problem. Am I out of line in assuming this is wrong?
  7. so they are using the bus stops as their place of business? CLASSY! (lol) Carol Alvorado is a joke. S. Jackson is a joke as well (with the exception of racial issues, which she handles very well). I have sent her many emails regarding several things as well as the mayor and it is always the same garbage sent back. I have left messages as well only to receive a response that has nothing to do with my issue.
  8. Oh on the tunnel system. No there are no plans to directly link the tunnel to the Park. I don't think they can even do that now, they have already built and are almost finished with the underground parking garage. You could take the tunnel system to the Houston Centers and walk the sky bridges to 5 Houston Center, and walk across the street to the park if you wanted.
  9. Okay don't laugh! but I was under the assumption that the Galleria was a tourist attraction? I have read somewhere that people come from around the world to shop there (maybe they don't know about Mall of America) -- by no means am I comparing to Vegas though. Does anyone know how many hotel rooms we have near The Galleria by any chance?
  10. Humble Tower has room service through The Marriott.
  11. I haven't been to FW in a few years (I am in Dallas allot, we have an office there -- actually have an office in FW as well, I just have never visited that office), but I do remember there being an awesome botanical garden in FW, and they had some museums that were nice as well. I remember when I was a kid thinking that Dallas was the city and Fort Worth was a fort for the military that was next to the city

  13. You are right somewhat with the Galleria but it isn't that bad (People walk everywhere in Vegas, and they have huge lots). I have a friend who lives in Post Oak Lofts (catty corner from the Galleria) and we walk to the Galleria from time to time (not in the summer though) All and All Houston really isn't pedestrian friendly -- which is why everyone has cars I would imagine. Does anyone know if they are planning a light rail near the Galleria? And again maybe for the airports?
  14. Is prostitution that bad in the area? Or is it homeless prostituting themselves? I never have paid attention to the "prostitution" in the area, but the homeless I know is a major problem.
  15. I wonder if this is still in the works -- even after that finding that found over half of the waterways in Texas are failing safety requirements
  16. eh Midtown isn't a big (pedestrian) shopping area right now. I am not sure why Midtown hasn't taken off, its the perfect area to do so. Maybe Greyhound is hampering this area. If you wanted to live somewhere in the area w/o a vehicle, Id imagine it would be near the galleria. Unless you are wanting to use the bus system, which is slower than using a vehicle.
  17. I still don't think you can live downtown without a vehicle! There just isn't any shopping. For instance, the three nearest grocery stores are Randall's (which I stopped going to awhile ago -- this location seems to have very bad produce), Fiesta (I haven't been in there, so not sure about their quality) and Spec's within walking distance. Lately I have been going to Spec's for produce, meats and alcohol, and then to Target off of Sawyer for everything else (which is not in walking distance). All three of these grocery stores I could see someone not needing a vehicle, but you would have to take the train I would imagine.
  18. For the love of god they need to get rid of that cruise ship with its stern and bow cut off that is sitting right next to this new park! We need a new convention center imo. Honestly I like Orlando's old convention center -- there new one is just WOW, but I would settle for their old one, it still is very nice.
  19. Please tell me they are not going to name the metro rail in Fort Worth the FART!
  20. Does this apply to pools only? What if I wanted to build a moat? would that be considered a lake? And what are the laws with regards to having a lake? Do we have to build a fence around that?
  21. Ahh, I thought you had been in it (I was wondering how, lol).
  22. When you say you have been there in person? What do you mean? You actually were inside the park area?
  23. We actually had a firm christmas party here a few years back (maybe 2002 or 2003) and it was very nice. Personally I liked Minute Maid Park better, was much more livelier.
