More importantly, they fixed the fountain between Baker and Jones just in time for summer. It's my dog's favorite spot on campus other than begging for food from students... oh, and Rice Bikes!

Museum District might be tough with the ZaZa right there but something like that in Montrose near the Menil. You'd be surprised by how many people come to Houston just for the Menil. Not enough for a Sheraton but certainly enough for a 30-50 room boutique. I'd also argue that something of this size in the Rice Village would mint money.

90% occupancy in less than a year in a AA property is a freaking slam dunk. You clearly have no idea of what you are talking about and I really wish people would stop quoting your nonsense.- 1,893 replies

Marlowe: Condominium High-Rise At 1211 Caroline St.
KinkaidAlum replied to Dakota79's topic in Downtown
I really thought about buying here and downsizing. It's the only new build for-sale condo building in the market but I couldn't pull the trigger. I knew the end result would be a garage-mahal with no interaction whatsoever with the street. That is moo in uptown but it's terrible in downtown.- 773 replies

Fingers crossed. When I was in Melbourne a few months ago, I was so impressed by development there. Would love to see someone here truly raise the bar.- 1,569 replies

I know it is not the point, but man, the Pennzoil Towers are still amazing. Only wish they were either taller or on a more visible block.

GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.
KinkaidAlum replied to MontroseNeighborhoodCafe's topic in Downtown
Zina is great. She's given up coaching at the pro level and is now back in Houston full-time dedicating herself to expanding her academy for youth. Lori coaches out there every day. They've got some really exciting plans to expand what they do in MacGregor Park. Going to need to fundraise a lot but I think they'll pull it off. -
GreenStreet: Mixed-Use Development At 1201 Fannin St.

Zina Garrison and Lori McNeil should both be in there. Doubles champions who grew up in the Third Ward and crashed through all sorts of barriers. Plus, Lori is still out on the courts every day teaching the next generation in MacGregor Park at ZGA. -
HCC Central would have also been near the U-Line. That campus is really exploding.

It's been like that for over a week. I rode by several times and they were laying new sod and fertilizer. Maybe protecting new grass?

Good. I had heard he walked. While the tower is a nothing burger, it's better than a cleared lot.

THANK GOD Randall Davis didn't develop in the Rice Village. Hanover's two projects are head-and-shoulders above anything he has ever built. Also, I'd rather a city have hodge-podge funky development than just one master-planned thing after another. But, that's just me. I like quirks... like the Dirt Bar to me is more interesting than Green Street or whatever it is called now.

I still have a dream that someday we'll have a green roof initiative. Imagine that picture with gardens/parks on top of the sprawling apartment buildings and garages.

Got a glimpse tonight in the darkness. They've dug a huge hole for either the foundation pour or maybe even an underground parking level? It's quite large and looks to cover the entire footprint of the building. The wind has torn off the windscreens so you can catch a glimpse but it was too dark to capture a good photo.

Wow. Great find! I don't think that's the Anderson Clayton Bldg. I think that's the old Penn Hotel? Looks like the sign might say Will Penn, no? But that could easily be it on Texas Avenue putting the photographer to the northwest of the Church.

TMC Helix Park: Texas Medical Center Bio Research Campus
KinkaidAlum replied to Mab's topic in Going Up!
1) You cannot assume all of the project mentioned above would have happened if UTH got off the ground 2) Do you know how the UT system works? It's very much a separate but not equal system. We were not going to get a UT-Austin, which is an amazing school with vast resources. We'd be getting a branch. They are NOT the same thing no matter how much a UTSA graduate tries to tell you they graduated from "Texas."- 1,229 replies

TMC Helix Park: Texas Medical Center Bio Research Campus
KinkaidAlum replied to Mab's topic in Going Up!
Dark Day? Since that all went down we've seen UT system approve of the TMC3 plans, A&M make a huge commitment to their Health Science Center with an initial ground lease and plans for a new multidisciplinary research and education building, UH announce plans for a community medical school focused on primary care in underserved environments, and UH announce a new Institute for Data Science with help from the Governor's excellence fund. But yeah, not open...- 1,229 replies

TMC Helix Park: Texas Medical Center Bio Research Campus

This is actually MUCH better. This campus will be far more integrated with the existing TMC than the land UT bought. Win-win is how I look at it.- 1,229 replies
