I responded to your PM about this already, but I'll note here for everyone else that I'm looking into whether this can be put back the way it was.

Thank you. I see you sent a personal message later in the morning after my post. I appreciate it. I'll respond momentarily.

Fingers crossed that the archiving issue can be resolved. Thanks again.

Last week, Houston Business Journal published an "exclusive" pertaining to Sophie opening soon at Montrose Collective. Sophie is a rooftop bar and lounge from the group behind Ciel (4411 San Felipe, Ste 101.)

According to Houston Business Journal, Sophie's estimated debut is late March 2024.

Additional details for Houston Business Journal:

Sophie is expected to fill a niche that is not currently offered at Montrose Collective.

A source familiar with the deal said that while the development currently has tenants that offer wine and beer...“there’s not really a place where people can enjoy spirits before or after dinner.”

According to an Instagram story posted by Sophie last week, the business is described as "art meets fashion in a deliciously, romantic Mediterranean setting."

Sophie is a new cocktail bar from Le Ciel Hospitality. The group also own supperclub Ciel at 4411 San Felipe, Suite 101. Their new project is located in Montrose Collective. It replaces Idle Hands at 910 Westheimer Rd.

Last month, Community Impact published an article on Sophie. The article provides a little more insight about the concept.

As mentioned, Sophie is a new cocktail bar and lounge from La Ciel Hospitality. It's opening soon Montrose Collective.

According to an Instagram post from the brand, the bar will span two levels. The upstairs terrace is meant to remind guests of sunset on the French Riviera, and the downstairs bar will be painted darkly with rich textiles.

  5. @editor can you please provide further information about the recent addition of archiving topics? Why was this feature added? Are topics archived by a moderator? Or are topics automatically archived after a certain amount of time has passed?

I've messaged a few members and they noticed this as well in recent weeks. We're wondering if it's possible to remove this feature. Or at the very least, limit it to other subforums where there is little to no activity.

There have been new developments for several topics I wanted to share, but that's not possible. The topics are archived. There's no way to search for them on the forum because they don't come up. They are completely hidden. You have to search on Google to find them, and that's only if Google crawled the page. Or one has to scroll through pages on the subforums to find a topic that's archived. And when you find the topics, you're not able to post anything because it's closed.

I could see a need for archiving topics in subforums like HAIF on HAIF, Off Topic, Way Off Topic, and The Weather. Many users or visitors don't post or visit those forums often. But the other subforums? Mainly the Going Up, Neighborhood, and Traffic and Transportation forums have topics where projects and developments are discussed off and on over the years. That's largely in part because renovations may happen down the line, new ownership, and the list goes on.

For example, there's upcoming renovations for the Westheimer Center. I was going to post about it, but couldn't find the topic. I knew it was here. I saw the topic a few months ago. So, I Googled the center's name and the forum to find it. Lo and behold, the topic exists, except it's hidden from the forum search. Why? It's archived and closed for further discussions.

I understand the cost of running this site and storing everything on servers is not only expensive, but takes a lot of storage. But I'm hoping there's a better way to keep topics open. Especially ones in the neighborhood and Going Up forums.

Space Cadet hasn’t been open in a week, and no updates on their social media. Anyone know if they have closed for good?

The admin of Houston Heights Foodies claims Space Cadet is closed at 4002 N Main St.  He didn't provide additional information.

The admin of that group posts wrong information all the time. He posted as a fact that Spices 39 would be an Indian restaurant and was dismissive when others told him it will be a Chinese restaurant. He told his followers the former Revival Market space will be Pepper Twins. Several people corrected him that it will be Cooking Girl and that the news isn't an exclusive as he posted since it was announced months ago. He was dismissive about that too. And the list goes on.

So, it may be worth waiting for a more reliable source for confirmation.

I reached out for confirmation via Space Cadet's Instagram and the owner's Instagram. If I hear anything back, I'll pass it along.

I'm assuming the properties could be for the construction of charging stations for electric cars (EV charging stations). @HNathoo speculated as much in a topic pertaining to two downtown properties Equilon Enterprises and Shell Oil Products US own. Houston Chronicle reports on Shell expanding its electric vehicle charging network in the U.S. It doesn't mention anything Houston-specific, but it possibly relates to plans for the properties at 4309-4317 Washington Ave.

As mentioned above, Shell acquired the following properties last fall:

    • 4309 Washington Ave
    • 4311 Washington Ave
    • 4313 Washington Ave
    • 4315 Washington Ave
    • 4317 Washington Ave

It's possible the oil and gas company may have plans to build electric charging stations here.

I would have liked to see something else built at 216 Tuam, but there is a need for more electric vehicle charging stations in Houston. A Shell Recharge (EV charging station) should be a welcome addition to the area.

I am surprised to see that someone has indicated that Randall Davis is about to close with THE OXBERRY GROUP as owners of the property when the Harris County Appraisal District still shows it as owned by a small company and the ground is still classified as a SINGLE FAMILY DWELLING within  the Chaucer STREET neighborhood restrictions.

First off, welcome to Houston Architecture Information Forum. Secondly, regarding the sale of 2360 Rice Boulevard, I want to be clear that my initial post was speculation.

It is true the county clerk's database doesn't show a recent change in ownership. However, LoopNet shows the property is under contract. And since Randall Davis announced plans for Chaucer, my assumption is Oxberry Group may be close to selling the property to Davis.

I'm still unsure what all 1318 Magic will entail. Although it is described as a medical cannabis dispensary in its Instagram bio, I don't know if the kitchen will be utilized.

1318 Magic received multiple violation from the city's health department last week. During its change of ownership inspection, it was cited for "food establishment construction / remodeling / alterations / [beginning] before submitting properly prepared plans / specifications for approval."

It appears Buffalo Bayou Brewing Co.'s former Sawyer Yards digs will house Tejas Beer. The brew is from Houston's Gulf Coast Distillers / Giant Texas Distillers.

I don't know if this will be a production facility only. There is always the possibility the distiller could include a tasting room and kitchen. Perhaps Gulf Coast Distillers will announce their plans for 2101 Summer St soon.
