  1. Missed this article the other day. http://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/Houston-Community-College-moves-to-sell-land-7462165.php No new though, really:
  2. There's an "express review" permit filed yesterday in the permitting center's database for Retrospect Coffee.
  3. A new variance sign posted yesterday with "Blossom Hotel" on it and (I think?) another building was cleared next to the site. So, some kind of progress... edit: this was on the last plat agenda: II. Establish a public hearing date of June 9, 2016 a. Blossom Hotel and Suites replat no 1 and extension
  4. They're really over-emphasizing the "walkability" here and in every other press release I've seen about it.
  5. Not sure if this has been mentioned (haven't seen it here), but Rich's is re-opening at 2401 San Jacinto this summer.
  6. See page 11 of this newletter; appears to be next to the superblock (and only minutes away from the Medical Precinct!): http://caydon.com.au/wp-content/uploads/2016/03/COR084-Portfolio-Newsletter-March-2016_DIGITAL_2.pdf?utm_campaign=CAY-General&utm_source=Caydon-EDM&utm_medium=Button&utm_content=View-Full-Newsletter_March-2016-Portfolio-Newsletter Edit: Between Art Bar and Greensheet along Main.
  7. So I used to live in the duplex 5 houses south of 1308 and left in October 2014 when the owners told me they were selling to Sunrise soon. So I always check the demo report for an update on it. Anyway, today's has the house right next door to 1308 being demoed (1317 Marconi), which of course HCAD has as owned by Sunrise. Maybe this thing's a-brewin?
  8. Anyone remember anything about a sports lounge at 3704 Fannin? I saw something called "The Vanderbilt" on swamplot from back in 2014, but I don't think anything ever happened (based on their facebook page last being updated in 2014). Anyway, was searching the permit site (cuz ya know HAIF) and there was a permit sold for this address last week for a parking variance...use is "CNVERT REST TO CLUB / ADD 3RD FL 1-3-3-A"; owner listed as FAT property. Idk. Anyone seen any work here?
  9. Anyone can stop by on their way to Club Houston!
  10. I agree, but midtown is such an anomaly. Honestly, I've attended the church across the street for 30 years (I'm 30), and I have never set foot in that Sears. And I now live in midtown. I'm not sure what kind of retail could replace it and Fiesta or what kind of retail would want to.
  11. Interesting. Is this that plot across from the church/park (currently owned by Common Ground) or further away from downtown?
  12. Yes; suddenly a bunch of work happened. Appears to be single family:
  13. I'm hung up on this one! Permit search in the zip code shows a building permit on 3508 Jackson was purchased by Loftech homes on the 5th. Address search for the old La Paz funeral home (3515 Crawford) shows that HCC is the owner of that property now. What have you people done to me?
  14. I know I mentioned this earlier, but the clearing catty-corner to Axelrad (that has had Caterpillars and such) has a "Ser Construction" sign on the fence around it now. Anyone have any idea what this is? Probably just utility work, but still..
  15. PLEASE. We need grocery stores nearer to the east side of Midtown (besides the Randall's...)
  16. I kept my old driver's license after moving in my wallet solely in case of an emergency trip to El Real on a Monday.
  17. Dear Students, Colleagues and Friends, This is a defining moment in the history of UTHealth. At 10 a.m. this morning, the John P. McGovern Foundation announced a transformational $75 million gift to our Medical School and McGovern Center for Humanities and Ethics. Through 14 separate endowments, this gift will help us bolster medical training, will provide full scholarships to outstanding students and will support scientific discovery and innovation. The gift will also enhance programs at the McGovern Center, which was established in 2004 with another generous donation from the McGovern Foundation. Dr. McGovern embraced the philosophy of Sir William Osler, M.D., whose approach included patient-centered, compassionate care and appreciation of medical history and the humanities. The center serves all six of the university’s schools. In honor of the largest gift in our history, and the principles modeled by this great physician and his wife, UTHealth Medical School will be renamed theJohn P. and Kathrine G. McGovern Medical School. The formal short name will be the McGovern Medical School.
  18. May not really add anything and may be old news, but I was leafing through the midtown redevelopment budget and saw "Central Bank Plaza" development at $100k each year for the next 4 years. I wonder what this actually is. Probably just landscaping. Page 43 in the link: http://houstonmidtown.com/wp-content/uploads/2015/04/02_FY15-Budget-Ordinance-Midtown-2014-1029.pdf
