  1. I was just conjecturing. Is Southwest planning on having all passengers use stairs, then? Also, does that mean UA has stopped services at A? I missed that there was a lease signed. Was there a starting date announced for the lease?
  2. Hearing that Southwest will launch from the A3 gates. Pretty skeptical of this rumor considering there are no jetways at A3. I guess it's possible that UA is giving up A3 and that will be the site of first construction.
  3. In other cities, they have made the scooter sharing companies use geo-fencing. Basically, the scooters shut off if they leave a certain approved area or enter an unapproved area.
  4. All scooters, electric and non-electric are banned at Buffalo Bayou Park by city ordinance. All can be ticketed.
  5. Just as a quick aside, I've been emailing a bunch of public officials/asking at public meetings and trying to figure out where the law actually stands. At the moment: ebikes are allowed everywhere. State law specifically prohibits municipalities from restricting them where normal bikes are permitted (except for some mountain bike trails). City is going to work on having ebikes specifically included in language via ordinance. Scooters.... are not very politically popular. They are permitted by a lack of regulation basically everywhere except for Buffalo Bayou Park and some private parks like Discovery Green (who have large/new no scooter signs).
  6. Any thoughts on the legality of them posting no parking signs - construction worker parking only signs on the fence around all sides of the site?
  7. Didn't have time to grab a pic, but they appeared to be actually digging in the SE corner this afternoon.
  8. Midtown Houston has several videos on their FB story where they were taking a tour of the ION. I think that these only stay up for 24 hours? So it's going to disappear by like 6pmish today. I'll download them and post them here with the stills. They did say that the north face of the building would be restaurants. Their post: https://www.facebook.com/stories/2112030015480802/UzpfSVNDOjEwMTYwNTUyNzU3ODEyMjI4/ Here are the same vids that I downloaded and then reuploaded to imgur The stills:
  9. I just looked up the data source for that infographic, and well... it's wrong. This is what they are using to calculate for Houston in their 2010 report: They are counting the entirety of the Fort Bend County Park system, yet as far as I can tell, none of it is in the CoH. They are then dividing just the CoH population across all of this park land which is outside of the City of Houston. Also, nearly 10,000 of the Houston Parks land is Lake Houston Wilderness Park. Yes, it's technically part of Houston Parks, but it's c'mon. George Bush Park is 8,000 of Harris County's Park space. The same group gives a Park walk score, and Chicago has 98% of residents living within a 10 minute walk of a park where Houston only has 61% I mean, look at these two comparisons!! https://www.tpl.org/city/houston-texas https://www.tpl.org/city/chicago-illinois
  10. I believe it was Mitchell Silver's Kinder Institute presentation back in March. I know it's hard to do direct comparison because of large county parks budget here, but 2019 CoH Parks budget was $77 million and Chicago was $465 million, so it's about 16% more on a raw basis. We're also really bad on the distribution of parks and the average distance of a park to each resident. We're still 3X as large and have 1/2 as many parks. I'm not an expert on the quality of those parks (we do have some excellent ones) but park space in Houston is severely lacking for a huge portion of residents. I got invited to a private discussion group about ways to try to combat it and they kicked me out when I basically said that ship sailed years ago.
  11. https://www.bloomberg.com/news/articles/2020-11-01/fortress-fails-to-sell-record-bond-deal-for-las-vegas-rail Vegas to Southern California fails to sell their bonds. Have to think that's a much more desirable market than Houston to Dallas.
  12. If only our city spent on parks and rec like other major cities We spend like something 10% per capita that Chicago does. Obviously, I definitely agree.
  13. Commenter on Reddit said that HBP's last day is Jan 16 and that they are looking for another location to reopen.
  14. I think I read somewhere that HEB said no more CMs in Houston This could be an interesting location for one, though. Looks like this Kroger is about 1/2 the size of our CM and the lot is about 1/3 of the size. Surely there's no chance of Target opening another store here, right?
  15. Oh snap. There's so much real estate available on that side of the street now! Will be interesting to see what happens.
  16. Permit issued for a coffee shop remodel at Blacksmith. Maybe integrating the lot somehow?
  17. Permit issued for a 133 sq ft bike storage room in the parking garage. You love to see it! (I'm assuming this is also for Google).
  18. As mentioned earlier in this thread, I live real close to this one, so looking forward to making lots of posts about it! There are a surprising number of town homes in the complex to the right of this photo for sale (across Drew) and I think they were wanting to sell before construction. Really wish that there was a small amount of retail in this for a little coffee shop or something, but oh well.
  19. Very different than a "normal" doughnut like Shipley's. Denser and while they have some more typical options, they have some elaborately decorated/flavored options that they are kind of known for. Honestly, there is room for both.
  20. New 2,900 square foot donut shop going in? Also, doubt it's take out only if its that large.
