A bar or a bar & grill named Tulum leased the former home of King's Court at 903 Hutchins.

I don't know who's involved with Tulum or much else about the bar.

I spoke to the owner (really cool guy) in July and if I recall correctly he said is stepping back and letting his partner (not sure if he’s a new partner) take over. From what I remember he’s doing some Latin/Pakistan fusion here. This could all be out of date info by now but that’s what he told me at the time.

Bummer. Upscale huh? I liked the vibe of goodnight Charlie’s when it was open and was hoping for something casual here. This along with the wine and cheese place next door pisses me off .. O well.

When I first moved to Montrose it was one of the few coffee shops around, now we have about a bunch of them within a half mile from where I live.

The way I see it you can never have enough coffee shops.  Especially if they offer beer 🍻

Yep! This was shared a month ago. It's in the thread for Shepnett Square, the block or development consisting of FM Kitchen:

On a related note (can’t find proper thread) I believe the FM Kitchen location on Westheimer in Montrose has closed. Their website no longer mentions this location and when I drove by it was closed with a sign on the door.

I wanted to bring this topic out of the Greenway Commons thread.  How are the tenants of this apartment? Given the building is 13 years old, how is it holding up? I drive by this building multiple times a week. It's a great location.

    Website:

The building is not bad at all. It is one of the older donut style apartments so the hallways are a little worn but when i moved in the unit itself was very clean with fresh paint. They’re currently renovating the club rooms (needed) and recently painted the main gym & are adding bigger TVs.  The pool water always looks clean and they seem quick to fix things if it’s brought to their attention. As far as the tenants it seems to be a 50/50 mix of folks in their 20s and 30 and up. My neighbors are relatively quiet but the walls are kinda thin with these newer builds.  It’s always luck of the draw when it comes to your neighbors. There are definitely newer better apts in the area but I moved in at a bargain and like you said the location is great.  Any specific questions lmk.  If you’re looking into moving we can split the referral 🤑

Not great.  I've been there, or through there, about five times in the last couple of months, because I have business with Chase.  Foot traffic has been very light.  And I think the really good chicken joint closed.  Or at least it wasn't open the last time I went.

The big problem with Finn, as someone who lives down the street, is that you never know when it's open, so you don't bother to go.  Sure, the food court, itself, has regular hours.  But each vendor within is allowed to set their own, lesser hours.  So what's the point of going, if it's safe to assume that half of the options are going to be closed?

In large retail spaces, like malls, it's not uncommon for the owner to require minimum operating hours of its stores.  Finn should do this.

Also, it's not open on weekends.  Every other bar and restaurant on Main Street can be packed after a Saturday Astros game, but Finn is closed.  It makes the street look bad.  It makes Finn look unreliable.  It makes the restaurants inside look amateur.  If you're a restaurant on Main Street that's not open on weekends, you're not a business.  You're a hobby.

I think I'm not going to try with Finn anymore.  If it can't respect the neighborhood enough to be open on weekends, then why would I give it any of my money?  There are other options.

I was upset as well when I was down there on a weekend and it was closed!

Based on the energy this past weekend and the one before, I think downtown is coming back stronger. Pre-pandemic we started to see some real synergy downtown. With the addition of POST, which has become a hub for different activity, it's really helped create more energy downtown. I think with the renovation of The Shops, the Stros Village, and Skanska's future project, things are only going to get better and better.

Do you have a sense of how Finn Hall is looking lately? I really want that place to succeed.

I noticed a few weeks ago that three or four buildings between Mulberry Street and Pistoleros were razed. Does anyone know what's going in at this location? Seems like it could be a good way to extend that walkable area of Montrose, if there are more shops or restaurants.

I walked by this yesterday.  That end of the street can use a little help, so this is good.

I went to the coffee shop next door, 3 Fibs.  It's... OK.  But like most coffee shops in Houston, it suffers from a lack of choice.  It has the same seven items on its menu that every other coffee shop has.  So why should I go there, instead of somewhere else?

Harsh on Starbucks, but at least there's some variety.  Perhaps Starbucks tries too hard to be everything to everyone, but catering to more than just the basics is how you bring people in the door.

I like the vibe at 3 Fibs.  But I probably won't go back, just because there's no reason to.  There are five other places closer to me that I can get the exact same thing.

I will definitely go back when/if it expands its hours.  It does wine and charcuterie boards, which I like.  But it's only open until 4pm.  I'm not going to drink wine on my lunch break.

How did you feel about Honeymoon Cafe?
