This can be seen from The Wilshire's webcam:

Wow. Thanks for sharing. It looks crazy dense over there.

The building behind the Shell Station at Kirby and Southwest Freeway is being torn down. I also remember there was a gym there and Miyako is closed. I did not see a variance sign but will check it out later today.
It's all been vacant forever. We sure do need a nice hotel on Kirby. It would be close ti Rice Village, River Oaks and the new Levy Park b

Give it time. He'll find some way to muck it up.
Not Randall! He's our very own Trump!
Perhaps he can wrap it in faux gold. Lots of cheap marble.

How big is the lot this is on? Pretty amazing. And all concrete. Can't be Randall Davis!!

Wait, so you got the reference?
Coming to America.

That's BEAUTIFUL, what is that, velvet?
Ha! But I did have a heart attack when I saw it on a Houston Realtors Facebook page. I thought it was in Houston somewhere.

So Dakota, what I read you saying is that everything is ok, be nice to people no matter what you think of them or their actions. Is that an accurate summation?
If so, that's fine. I don't know if you're being honest if you say that's how you act, but it's a noble goal.
It how I roll! I tell my kids and I myself "try" to make my interaction with people the best part of their day. Do I mess up? Yep. But I try.
That's why I don't get all the "hate" that goes round. Seems like a lot of baggage to hate people for their differences. But that's just me

"Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere. We are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly." MLK
You either believe in equal rights for all or you do not. You cannot cherrypick who has rights and attack the most vulnerable among us. The transgender community made an easy target because they are completely misunderstood and make up such a small segment of our society that their voices are invisible but their threat was made real.
It makes me sick to see that "Christianity" was behind the defeat. Jesus didn't spend his time on Earth attacking the weakest and demonizing the misunderstood. He walked with them as a brother and friend.
It's no wonder organized religion is on the downturn. Who wants to go where you are judged every Sunday?
I'd rather just be nice to everome for the sake of making the world better. Really, shouldn't everyone?

Apparently, this man can predict 3 years in the future.
The only thing that is "crystal clear" is that by 2018, oil prices will have stayed the same, doubled, tripled, been cut in half or been cut by three quarters. And, interest rates will be the same, up or down. Inflation will be the same, up or down. Employment will be the same, up or down. Global trade will be up, down, or the same and the dollar will be stronger, weaker, or about the same. Oh, and the national or local economy will be growing, shrinking, or about the same. All of those items impact the housing markets.
So, the only thing that is "crystal clear" three years from now is that it is impossible to tell what "equalibrium" will be established, if any.
IMHO - I'm pretty sure in 2018 we will still have mega traffic and lots of potholes. But what do I know.

This was very hush hush and told you how ugly it is.
Color me skeptical. I would be shocked if this happens.

Praise be to the real estate gods!!!
I love this city and all the residential.
Thanks for the great posts!

6-story condo building.
I just looked at Google Earth and that little neighborhood is so cool looking from the above. The Hines building isn't finished in the satellite image.

With a name like that it screams residential and whispers Randall Davis.
I'm pretty sure Houston has had its fill of RD synthetic stucco accoutrements. Just saying...

The start in "June 2017" worries me a bit but I sure would love for this to be built.
I would be thrilled - but surprised if this happens in this cycle. The views would be incredible.

Looks like Pelican has a new project once The Wilshire is finished.
17 stories and 58 units. There's a render in PaperCityMag but I am too dumb to figure out how to post it here. Expecting to break ground summer of 2016.
Looks like they lopped off top part of the Monticello and plunked it on a box.

HBJ takes a tour of the Marriott Marquis
Wow! Thanks for the photos. And I'm glad the Hilton is getting some competition. They played hardball with a nonprofit event last year (as they could) and now we will have more choices.

That will be so weird for it to be gone!

They are putting up a privacy fence in Kirby. I assume to put banners etc on.

This picture was apparently taken around 1962 on San Felipe and Voss facing east.
Having trouble figuring out exactly where this was or what that building is in the background.[/quote
Not sure where that photo was taken, but I've seen that lady recently at walmart. She still wears that outfit and hairdo.

So, there's life in this thing. Kirby will have quite the residential skyline if this moves forward.
Thrilling!!

It is amazing how well these things sell, gotta think more will be built despite oil prices. Is there any condo high rise in Houston not selling well?
I heard today that the River Oaks hasn't sold as well as they had hoped. I think it will once the site gets cleaned up (IMHO).
-
Yep I saw them out there this morning! They have a small digger on site as well. They must be starting utility work per what Urbannizer said.
The Upper Kirby traffic alert said Colquitt will be closed west of Kirby while they bury the utilities for this project starting Monday. I'm stoked about how Kirby will look when these buildings are built. Too bad the Picos and Office Depot etc didn't get smashed in this last boom.

I'm thinking this will do a good job of hiding the dated cosmopolitan. As usual - they will try to sue for "blocking their views"! Ha. Good luck with that. Let's hope this really happens.
