I heard this morning from a customer of One2One Training that they have been given notice to vacate and all of the tenants in these hideous buildings must move out by October.
I don't know how to post a photo, but has anyone heard if these will be torn down, or (ugh) remodeled?

That "it's hot in Houston" is so tired. I have lived in Baltimore and it was just as hot, just as humid, and we walked 1-2 miles to go to a restuarant because the parking was so bad. NYC you can walk as far. Same with Chicago. And they are hot in the summer, and when you go to a restuarant they charge for tea refills! 5 years ago in Houston you never saw a pedestrian. Now you see them and bicyclists everywhere. It's great to go out and eat and walk it off. An added bonus is you are more connected to the city when you walk and see the houses, businesses etc.

I believe it has to do with the David Crocket subdivision behind it. In that neighborhood they have strict guidelines. Two stories on Virginia and Ferndale, and no town homes on Lake Street, which is why that still hasn't really developed. Who wants a single family facing the car wash, Bed Bath/Beyond etc?

I love it. Uptown is maturing quickly, but it needs another signature building like Williams Tower. Well, maybe just a bit taller!

From the Austin Business Journal. I like the looks of this, and it would be gorgeous in Houston! I apologize if this is already listed.

I appreciate the support, but took no offense to the comment. I additionally am glad to hear of at least rumors of an 80-85 story building Downtown (rumors with a scintilla of reliability bring hope, which as Andy DuFrense reminded us in "Shawshank Redemption," is a good thing).
Unfortunately, as a litigator, I mainly get to hear about when buildings are being stopped and delayed rather than constructed. My experience has been that, when in doubt, it never hurts to ask for information.
Shawshank! One of my favorite movies. May have to watch it again. And I agree., a little hope is a good thing!

I am on the roads all day, and don't experience road rage. If you leave enough time to get where you are going, and let people in here and there you'll find Houston drivers not too bad. I find it a lot less stressful when I'm not in a hurry. Being in a rush causes the rage, IMHO.

Wow. That is gorgeous. Do you think it'll block the downtown views from the Museum Tower? Kind of looks like it.
It'll likely be finished before the crane is up at the famous Ashby Tower of Terror.

I will say that I joined in Oct 2013 (I think). And I absolutely love this site. The insider info and passion is second to none. I am addicted to HAIF!

Larry Dierker said "I've seen plenty a pretty butt. But hospital gowns, not so much."
Yes, but we are talking about the backside of a Randall Davis project. You know that ain't pretty!

Have you seen the back sides of his buildings. The jail on the bayou is more appealing. And that's not saying much. It's like Randall forgets you can see all four sides of a midrise! Argh... The humanity!

Go to the Upper Kirby District website. They are paying to bury the utilities, improve signage and sidewalks and they added the new sculpture on Kirby. In addition, the roads are being completely replaced section by section.

I remember as a teenager when it was two lanes after got to Fondren or so. And it seemed so far out.

Upper Kirby District did all that work with their Tax reinvestment dollars. Westheimer is also part of the work they are doing now.

How close is it to being topped out?
-
What is happening on this? I was in the Renoir the other day (ugh) and it looks like nothing is happening.

I can't get over all the cranes in Houston. It truly is an incredible time to be a Houstonian. I can't wait for the convention center Marriot crane, and the famed Ashby crane to be installed!

I doubt they are closing Fairview. Maybe whichever side street is at that corner. Fairview carries too much east/west traffic.

I agree with you JAX. I think it will be fine once it's up, and furthermore would bet $$ that some of those that are complaining will eventually move into it when they downsize. Or maybe their kids or parents might move in to be close to them.
The views will be spectacular.

I was surprised how much of the lot it takes up. It is going to look huge. It's a lot closer to the streets than I expected.
Corporate Plaza Buildings On Kirby Dr.
in River Oaks/Upper Kirby/Greenway Plaza/Bissonnet

Ok. Hideous might have been a little strong. But it's basically the entrance to Upper Kirby, and the buildings under utilize the location, and the parking is tough.
