Why the galvanized steel toward the top of the structure?
2 hours ago, tangledwoods said:The grey steel in these pictures to me looks like it is primed (particularly the columns). I am not sure about that roof framing on if it is primed or galvanized.
I can't say 100%, but the top beams appear to be painted instead of hot dipped. My guess is that it's cosmetic since the structure will be visible through the perforated ceiling panels.

Somebody on Reddit said that the parking lots adjacent to this building cannot be developed due to structurally integral underground cables for this building.
Anybody know if there is any truth to that?

Asbestos warning tape on the building now.

Queens BBQ caught fire this evening. I'm hearing it was relatively minor but lots of potential smoke damage.

I wonder what's going on with this project. They were making good progress, then all of a sudden nothing. I have noticed a car has been parked on the property at times, which I'm assuming is hired security. Hopefully that's a positive sign.
An employee of the GC had the gate open as I was driving by. They confirmed the project is stalled, but didn't mention the issue. Construction will be moving forward when it's resolved.

I hope they go weirder than weird - they should have the Menil and Orange Show consulting on this project. Something like the Federal Reserve on Allen parkway but in skyscraper form
Beer can house as a highrise would be a national treasure.

Has this bar closed?
Chairs are stacked, and a sign directs people to a different location for a planned event.Recent Google reviews of The Garden in Midtown would point to closure. I saw someone installing what looked like a barricade to the parking lot last weekend, but haven't been in the area to confirm what it was.

Is this the Mcdonalds with the no dine-in option?

Is this a recent thing? I was inside a few years ago and a homeless gentleman gave the option to choose from a menu item or the raw steaks he was holding. 😆

This is a really big deal. That block has been undeveloped with a dilapidated building on it for two decades. This will also bring a grocery store closer to midtown, which is badly needed. I've never been to this grocer, but looking forward to checking it out next year.

It was mainly related to the roof system being an enclosure and the trucks using propane (fire hazard). This set-up doesn't look like it would have any issues.

Really impressed with this park. They've utilized the space well and I feel it will grow into an asset for this section of downtown.

Sort of hard to imagine a business for which it wouldn't be unfortunate.

Ola may be opening soon at 3010 Milam St.
The restaurant finally launched its website and Instagram. I think their Facebook page has been up for a few years.
Ola means only love allowed. Looking at their website, it seems this is health-conscious eatery that will offer vegetarian and/or vegan-friendly items. Their Instagram bio reads: "fresh, flavorful food lovingly made from scratch."

Since when does this venue have a 400 square foot patio? Do they just mean tables running alongside the building or have they built out a more formal patio area on the side? I haven't walked by this location in several months.
La Calle utilizes the sidewalk as patio space, so I would guess this concept will do the same. And I'm all for more restaurants offering street-front seating.
