  1. These were the best two moments of the night. I love Anne Hathaway and think she is the real deal. Her short stage act with Hugh and the sincerity of her reaction to the introduction by McClaine showed she is a classy lady and an instant Tinsel Town classic. Overall, it moved a lot faster than last year. I thought Hugh Jackman's musical numbers and jokes were light and unexpectedly refreshing compared to the stale routines of past hosts. I'm glad I didn't have to sit through five different musical number, Peter Gabriel can go cry somewhere else. Hot? More like "well-done". SJP is still FUG and its almost like a cruel joke that the press gives her praise. Also, I'm no fashionista but I'm sorry, Marisa Tomei's dress looked like a bunch of hotel ball-room napkins sewn together. How she keeps getting accolades for that dress is beyond understanding. I thought Taraji P. Henson stole the show, and Anne Hathaway was "belle of the ball." EDIT: Brad & Angelina? OLD BORING NEWS.
  2. Is it possible he had a crush on her and her rejection fueled this senseless act?
  3. +1 to what Katie said about a still under construction MPC. This morning after brunch in first colony, we drove to the exact area I recommended to you and I resoundingly still recommend it. Just as soon as my wife and I have enough money saved that is where we are moving to. The BEST thing to do is to head down there EARLY one weekday morning and just drive around as it gets busy. See for yourself when Sweetwater starts to back up and how bad. For all you know, your wife's report time at work could fall right in line with a lull in the traffic surge. You never know until you go check it out. FWIW, I'm vicariously living through you right now!
  4. I'm literally laughing out loud as I type this: "I was."
  5. Telfair homes themselves might be upscale, but the neighborhood is not close to being built. Most homes start at $400k and all you get for a neighborhood is a dusty trail with sketchy sub-contract construction crews on your street all day EVERY day. There are no trees for shade either - just freshly planted saplings. If you're going to move into Telfair, I would wait at least another year because I know their prices are going to have to drop some more with the current economy. It makes no sense to buy there, or anywhere under construction when you can buy established for $100k cheaper AFTER upgrades & modifications.
  6. YES!!!! This is what you need to be looking for. It's a 4/2/2 detached for only $276k. From here you are walking distance from the elementary school and biking distance to the Town Center. The middle school is the furthest away but the high school, Clements, which is easily the best around is with in walking/biking distance depending on the occasion. You're also just a street away from Sweetwater Boulevard which will throw you up on 59. You can take that up to Sugarcreek, make a left at the light which will turn into Dairy Ashford and you're right there at 90 by Schlumberger. You'll have the freedom to bypass Highway 6 anytime you want. To me this is the perfect location if you're going to live in Sugar Land. You're near everything from schools to shopping, prices are down right now, and the homes are new enough that only minor cosmetic upgrades should be needed to get you set. If you have a $500k budget and can snag one in this area for under $400k, you should be able to update it for about $30k and pocket the rest. Good luck, and use the map feature on HAR to help!
  7. Pretty cool. I wonder how they knew he had a Verizon phone?
  8. WOW. Thanks for sharing. I liked the info about the churches.
  9. If we only had that dang fairness doctrine, all these conservative blowhards wouldn't be forcing us to listen to their unpopular views!
  10. What time is Chris Baker coming on and who is he replacing? I need to know when not to listen to the 9.5.0. FWIW I like Glen Beck on 740.
  11. Okay, well why are things bottoming out for Atlanta? What's going on over there?
  12. I keep hearing how Atlanta is taking this recession really hard. Why is that? Is Atlanta an isolated incident in the south, or is it more common in the bigger southern cities and the media is just focusing on Atlanta?
  13. Well, you can't blame a city/town for wanting this. It really does help in the long run when companies are looking for a potential home and see the success of other big companies. Besides, Minute Maid Inc, Sugar Land Texas, although misleading, has a nice ring to it.
  14. In 1990 we came and stayed here over night (from Louisiana) while attending my first Astro's game at the dome. I remember swimming in this pool and I remember our beachball going right over the side!
  15. BINGO. Which means they should focus on: ..which I think would better suit downtown and give people more motivation to park (think: Village Arcade parking garage). In the meantime.. I do want the Pavilions to succeed! I think most national chains that attempt to open here are coming in knowing they won't turn a profit for a while. I think the hope is that once they do start making money, they'll be in on the ground floor and won't have to worry about inflated rents.
  16. I have to agree. The Aquarium downtown, the Kemah boardwalk are two examples where Landry's brought revenue to an area that had none or little before. I can't imagine the City of Kemah complaining about the increase number of local jobs and increased number of tourist dollars spent - as well as something more for the locals to do. As for the Aquarium downtown, that area was struggling before so I can't see how the Aquarium hurt the area any. I think we need to save the loathing for independent restaurants that Landry's bought out and lowered the bar on.
  17. This should have been expected - recession or not. These type of developments are not organic, and when implanted in areas where there is no real NEED (not want or desire) they always fail. The difference will be whether the management company will be smart enough to do like the Park Shops and rebound with parcels that cater to the downtown day-time crowd, eg. restaurants & service oriented businesses. Retail will suffer here until the residential element grows.
  18. Hey Editor, how many sites do you own, what are they, and what kind of traffic are you getting to them?
  19. You should just PM him. He only owns the forum. Maybe he got stuck in IAH on a layover once and felt so sorry for us he created a forum for us to talk about the lack of architecture here in H-town!
