  1. The lot is empty and billboard is removed. I'd bet a nickel they'll have construction fence up this week. Hopefully skyhouse leaves their webcam on so we can still watch the progress.
  2. I count it as 2 floors (I might have made the comment to which you are referring). It's not just a double height first floor; there is a second floor that is visible from ground level, but it is not visible from the construction camera because it is a smaller footprint in the middle of the building.
  3. I'm as bummed as anyone that this got cancelled, but there is a silver lining here; now there won't be any confusing Eado Station and Eado Place.
  4. So you're saying it was better that we ended it before it got too serious, and there are other fish in the sea? Thanks bro, I feel better.
  5. Nothing against Pearl II, but watching a new project go up on the former site for Alamo Drafthouse is going to feel like watching someone you still love carry their last box of belongings out the front door. Sigh!
  6. Bad news, folks. Late this afternoon the whole project was reduced to rubble under the gaze of an angry God. I got this shot just as the foundations were giving out, and out of a blinding light a voice said "THOU SHALT NOT RAISE MORE THAN ONE FLOOR PER WEEK, YE FOLLOWERS OF BABBLE": Alright, it was just a van fire. But still the most exciting part of my week.
  7. They're actually working on floor 20; the ground floor has a double high ceiling at the external walls, so when you count from the ground the first elevated floor you see is actually floor 3 (when viewed from the construction camera or another elevated position). From street level you can see the 2nd floor at the core of the building. At the current rate, it should be topped out in 2 weeks.
  8. At dusk, also featuring the Mickey Leland Federal Building. Apologies for the reflection.
  9. The area could be vastly improved if a new park was placed on one of the remaining surface lots near Bell and Travis. That's where the residential development is, so bring the parks to the people. The other advantage to that location is that Pierce Elevated could serve as a natural territorial signifier once respectable folk move in on the North side, so no need to close down the Greyhound station. For those that don't believe that people pay attention to landmarks like that and know what side they belong on, look at Spur 527 (or as I call it, Ghetto-Fabulous Ave., since it's side and *FABULOUS* on the other.)
  10. I noticed that the nails/screws holding the white trim in place haven't been puttied or painted over. Is it crazy to hold out hope they will be painting them some other color? I can't picture a color that would tie together the mustard, brick, and tan, but damn, something has to change.
  11. Sorry to hear about your situation; my landlord has been slow to send over my lease renewal and I'm having nightmares about being in the same spot. If you haven't checked it out, I've been seeing a lot of yard signs North and South of Richmond on the East side of Montrose. You might also check out the vacancies at Fat Property: http://fatproperty.com/units/#. The owner is a regular poster on Swamplot and seems to have some of the cheaper non-slum places in town.
  12. Hmmm, industry insider info? The flyer also indicates South Texas College of Law changed their name, so it could just be sloppiness. But here's hoping!
  13. Pictures from this evening: The red/orange brick seems to be balancing out the mustard a little. I'm still not sold on the bottom level of large tan bricks; They look more suitable for a soil retention wall.
  14. A truckload of glass was delivered this morning. It's hard to believe they're ready to hang it, but I wouldn't have thought they'd be up to 10 floors in less than 5 months, either.
  15. There was a fatal accident on the site today: http://www.chron.com/news/houston-texas/article/Fatal-fall-down-elevator-shaft-reported-at-4771878.php?cmpid=hpbn
  16. This is from their facebook page a couple weeks back: Nothing has really changed since then - the project seems to be crawling along compared to everything else in the area. They did put up scaffolding for what looks to be a cinderblock elevator shaft and have brought some pallets of wood on site. My uneducated guess is that means they are almost done with the concrete work and will begin framing floors 2+ fairly quickly. Check out their facebook page if you want a laugh. To say the least, Broadstone knows exactly who its target audience is: https://www.facebook.com/pages/3800-Main-A-Broadstone-Community/128597873987384?ref=stream#!/pages/3800-Main-A-Broadstone-Community/128597873987384
  17. The rendering above makes it look like the retail will be on the North side of the parking structure, in which case it will face another new apartment building: http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/28307-alliance-downtown-5-stories-207-units/ http://www.houstonchronicle.com/business/real-estate/article/Houston-s-apartment-boom-focuses-on-urban-scene-4619878.php?t=445cfc44ffb05374ef
