  1. The Savoy's renovated facade is such an improvement. I was in Chicago recently and stayed in a nicely redone hotel of about the same vintage - it can be a very cool, retro experience when done well.
  2. My comment is based on the Camden quote in the 5/7 chron article saying they have no start date. We didn't have an exact date before, but initial sources in this thread and the downtown development map at least had it down to a specific quarter.
  3. I'm confused by the decision to delay the project immediately after deciding to expand it. Do they have two very conflicting reads on the market, or is the delay to give them more time to accommodate/fund the larger project?
  4. In the existing footprint with two floors of parking included in the height, the two buildings had 16 occupied floors at 32.37 units per floor. If both buildings are 21 floors now, it's 38 floors at 15.26 units each. Even if they only bump the 12 story up to 21, that drops the units per occupied floor down to 23.2. So there are 3 options for what is happening: 1) a typo 2) a MAJOR increase in square footage per unit 3) a skinny tower slapped on top of one of the buildings. I'm hoping for #2, but #1 seems most likely. Edit: just saw that Urbannizer confirmed. Mea Culpa for the cynicism and here's hoping for#2!
  5. Just to play devil's advocate here: I think the original height for one of the buildings was 12 stories, and it would be a pretty simple for a map editor to accidentally type 21...
  6. Some interesting metal pillars are up on the main face on Montrose; looks like the crawler tracks for floor by floor demo .
  7. I was one of the haters but it is looking much better now - the dark brown rails and trim help immensely. And as others have said, the increased density is awesome.
  8. So just to be clear, the grassy lot in the photo above is where we think phase II is going? I got really excited when I saw soil testing happening there last year, but I assumed the funky access might rule out a project this big.
  9. We all love the beautiful, hi-def photos people post on here, but we're also pretty forgiving of relevant cell phone shots.
  10. There's a structure I can't identify sitting in the "staging area" at the base of the tower. Any ideas if this is a form for the crown, or maybe a mold for the modular garage?
  11. Such a beautiful rendering. My only complaint is that someone was so insecure with it they felt the need to neuter the Chevron tower in the background. It's okay that your building isn't the only tall one!
  12. The lot is empty and billboard is removed. I'd bet a nickel they'll have construction fence up this week. Hopefully skyhouse leaves their webcam on so we can still watch the progress.
  13. I count it as 2 floors (I might have made the comment to which you are referring). It's not just a double height first floor; there is a second floor that is visible from ground level, but it is not visible from the construction camera because it is a smaller footprint in the middle of the building.
  14. Bad news, folks. Late this afternoon the whole project was reduced to rubble under the gaze of an angry God. I got this shot just as the foundations were giving out, and out of a blinding light a voice said "THOU SHALT NOT RAISE MORE THAN ONE FLOOR PER WEEK, YE FOLLOWERS OF BABBLE": Alright, it was just a van fire. But still the most exciting part of my week.
