    100%.

I, for one, am especially happy to see something other than another glass box. I think this latest render looks great. I love the glass band in the middle. And the top-heavy juxtaposition of the white tower at the top and naked garage at the bottom makes it look a little punk modern. I really hope they don't skimp on the lighting. The early renders had some colored LED bands delineating the different sections, and it looked really sharp in my opinion.

I really think this adds a lot to the Museum District "skyline." It absolutely dominates your view driving along Binz.

    I like it.

^^^ i wholeheartedly concur.  from the very moment that i first laid eyes upon the initial rendering/concept of the X HOUSTON... i was stunned.  IMO, this particular design was simply perfect for the museum district with its eclectic and very contemporary all-glass middle portion... along with the aforementioned LED lighting effect delineating the upper and bottom sections.

i would be completely SHOCKED if they decide to skimp on the LED design effect.  this particular design adds a bit of life and momentum to the overall edifice itself.  not to mention, that LED lighting design seems to somehow compliment the museum district with its uniqueness and modern style.

oh, and by the way @aachor you now have me HOOKED on the term "delineating"... well played...

Yeah, Austin rocks.  But Houston is my second favorite city in Texas, and I would move there if I couldn't live in Austin.

^^^ as i currently reside in H-TOWN, personally, my mindset has always been that this is and has always been... a WONDERFUL/PROGRESSIVE city with a bounty of potential.  however, something is really wrong here when we have to practically BEG reputable developers to construct notable hotels and the such within our fair city.  based upon what we have been hearing lately, austin, tx, is getting ready to announce the addition of a gorgeous new RITZ CARLTON HOTEL.  heck, we in houston cannot seem to even get a W HOTEL. (we always seem to be very very very very late to the proverbial party in regards to construction)

houston is supposedly the ENERGY CAPITAL OF THE WORLD.  we harbor the WORLDS' LARGEST MEDICAL CENTER.  NASA, you name it, we seem to have it.  yet developers are constantly bypassing houston for supposedly greener pastures in DALLAS/AUSTIN/SAN ANTONIO.  how on earth, we became the FOURTH LARGEST CITY IN THE USA... i will never know?

^^^ considering the very fact that we in houston... have to DAMN NEAR HOG TIE a decent and reputable developer to construct something of endearing quality within our fair city, i'm finding it increasingly mind-boggling... trying in earnest to comprehend this very strange and burgeoning pessimism... towards the construction of this brand spanking new X HOUSTON?  yes, of course, they may have deviated a small bit from the actual initial renderings/concepts in regards to the ALL GLASS middle portion of the edifice.  however, are we really all that SHOCKED about this?  heck, they all deviate to some degree whether financially or construction resources-wise.  thanks to our few MAGNIFICENT HAIF PHOTOGRAPHERS, we have all been kept highly abreast of this ongoing construction of the X HOUSTON, and if there is one thing that we can all agree on, (i guess) is the simple fact that this newest development is being constructed with extreme high-quality resources and details.  unfortunately, we were not presented with the FINAL RENDERINGS/CONCEPTS before they actually started construction of this edifice.  therefore, we really do not know just what final outcome of this edifice is going to look like.  however, i'm not about to start placing some strange pessimistic curse on it.  i'm just very happy that the X developers thought enough of our fair city to even give us a chance.  whereby, so many other developers do not think twice about houston. (heck, it's almost as if we really do not exist in this world... considering that houston is supposedly the FOURTH LARGEST CITY IN AMERICA... right?)  heck, the X developers could have chose dallas (they probably will someday) they could have chose austin (they probably will someday) get the picture?  however, for now, THEY CHOSE OUR FAIR CITY OF HOUSTON, and i'm forever grateful.  i cannot wait to focus upon the final outcome of this HUGE BURGEONING STRUCTURE.  X marks the spot... let's go...

So rather than apologize for your condescending remark you choose to throw hindesky under the bus!  Classic!  Give yourself one of those gold trophies!  😂

^^^ @steve1363 leave it to YOU to totally misconstrue my prior post and completely reinterpret it to fit your creepy disposition.  @hindesky has got to be one of the hardest working and most well-respected HAIFERS upon this forum.  i ALWAYS present him with his props, and will gladly continue to do so.  i guess that i should not be surprised to find someone with only (#205 postings) to try and create division among long-time HAIFERS.  NICE TRY THO.  oh, and about that "bus" you brought up... you may want to steer clear of it.  "gold trophy" accepted...

I agree with @phillip_white. I'll also add what's listed on the TDLR filing is not the name of the coffee shop slated for Discovery West.

Sometimes these filings have filler names or something generic describing the project. It could be because a name hasn't been decided at the time of filing, owner wants to withhold name from the public, or a number of reasons.

Back to the coffee shop and cafe leasing a 1,200 sf unit at 1500 Lamar St, I don't think it's On the Grind either (mainly for the same reasons Phillip provided). Instead, I'm assuming the cafe and coffee shop is a downtown outpost of Common Bond On-the-Go.

ArchiTangent's website includes some their projects. Multiple Common Bond restaurants are in their portfolio. Going off this and the square footage for this project, it's likely  Common Bond On-the-Go is leasing a unit at Discovery West.

^^^ @phillip_white @TacoDog @hindesky gentlemen/ladies please allow yourselves to GAZE into the CRYSTAL BALL.  as you may attest, my CRYSTAL BALL is nothing more than a wild cornucopia of chaos, discombobulation, and towards the very end... a small bit of love.  however, as CRYSTAL BALLS come and go, mine seems to be a bit defective, it doesn't really tell the actual future.  therefore, whenever one of our most committed and hard-working HAIFERS such as @hindesky presents us with a small bit of knowledge (INCLUDING AN ACTIVE LINK) regarding something new that is forthcoming into a new development (HECK, EVEN AN OLD DEVELOPMENT) i then click upon the presented link and i take him at his word.  i then present him a LIKE for bringing forth this newest insight.  should you desire to go along with the added TDLR filing or not, that is your prerogative.  however, @hindesky presented us with a full LINK with added information that seemed a bit more authentic in my most honest opinion (SAME ADDRESS, RETAIL SUITE A, SAME DEVELOPMENT, YOU GET THE PICTURE) all you had to do is CLICK ON THE PROVIDED LINK and absorbed the information.  nothing more, nothing less.  should you not be able to LOCATE THE LINK, then just scroll down/upward and search again... TRUST ME, ITS THERE.  nonetheless, you may now take your eyes away from the CRYSTAL BALL, because at the very end... LOVE WINS!

^^^ @Amlaham you must NEVER EVER lose sight of just who has developed this magnificent structure... SKANSKA.  these people do not play games whenever it comes to their developments/properties.  you had better believe that they are already highly abreast of any and all regarding... ON THE GRIND COFFEE.  this newest location is right on the green, and they shall leave no stone left unturned to ensure that this newest establishment becomes a downtown shining star.  just you wait and see...

Based on the latest drawings by @Paco Jones I believe they have already deviated from designs with the way they have done the garage, I am sure there other changes they have made to the building. That's a lot of masonry/bricks to add to the product. Also, I wonder if they will cover the other side of the garage or leave it open.

Kind of looking forward to seeing what else they have changed as they build this thing up.

^^^ i would have to concur with your assessment @X.R. i have also noticed the subtle changes to the initial renderings/concepts of this burgeoning development.  i was of the mindset that the MIDDLE OPENING AMENITIES areas were going to be all glass as the original renderings illustrated.  however, i am now noticing that they seem to be inclosing some areas that i thought would be entirely opened with glass.  nonetheless, we never really did get to reference the VERY LATEST renderings/concepts of this development right before they initiated actual construction.  i was hoping that we would...

This is at least the second time you’ve spouted this without providing a source.  I think it’s nonsense, and BTW NRG will be hosting the College Football Championship next year.

    spacer.png

^^^ question:  just how difficult is it to bring up google?  answer:  not difficult at all.  in fact, it's quite easy...

What does Houston need to do for NRG Stadium to host another Super Bowl?

HOUSTON – Now in its 16th year of use, NRG Stadium remains among the premier stadiums in the NFL.

However, the next four Super Bowls will be played in either brand new stadiums, or in facilities that have been renovated.

To secure the Super Bowl five years from now, NRG will no doubt have to look different than it does now.

The question Harris County leaders, the Houston Texans and the Harris County Sports and Convention Corporation are wrangling with right now, is how much different.

“I'm not sure what the answer to that is, but you have to evaluate the competitive set, the competitive nature, and I know the county is evaluating what is going on at NRG Park and they will continue to invest in it,” said Ric Campo, chairman of the Super Bowl 51 Host Committee.

Channel 2 has learned those conversations were taking place long before the Super Bowl and they continue to take place.

It’s too early to say what those upgrades might cost, and in spite of what other cities have done and are doing to stay in the game, Campo doesn’t believe Houston needs a brand new stadium to be awarded the Super Bowl five years from now.

“Even though it's 16 years old, it's still state-of-the-art. The way it was built, it's a timeless design. That design is not going to change,” Campo said.

^^^ the NFL will no longer allow houston to host another SUPERBOWL unless changes are indeed forthcoming to NRG STADIUM.  the stadium in its current state, is no longer considered viable or state-of-the-art enough for NFL SUPERBOWL matches.  therefore, houston is no longer considered for the HIGHLY SOUGHT AFTER SUPERBOWL ROTATION.  personally, i find it simple SILLY SEASON rhetoric, to keep espousing about... "what is the stadium lacking"?  well, if you do not know by now... then just go and present the same IRRELEVANT QUERY to the entire league itself.  i am most certain that the NFL officials shall be more than happy to espouse NRG's overwhelming lack of current state-of-the-art amenities.  heck, houston or someone... is going to have to shell out a lot of money to renovate NRG STADIUM for the forthcoming FIFA WORLD CUP that it has just been awarded.  therefore, in order for NRG STADIUM to continue to carry its current WORLD CLASS standing, it's going to have to be updated/renovated... BIG TIME...
