  1. This image shows no less than 4 people and a dog narrowly missed by the light rail. I think this canopy design is going to change since the light rail draws power from the electrical lines above it which arent shown in this image. Canopy is probably going to be quite a bit taller than shown. Eitherway, this is a fantastic development. Wow! hope this gets built as shown.
  2. Make note, they have another system for certain items. So sometimes they will close the 311 issue pretty quick, but put into comments "Closed, refer to CR ##########", with a bunch of numbers. Thats basically the work order #. http://mycity.maps.arcgis.com/apps/webappviewer/index.html?id=cb3c94a31dfa489f9a8872ffe04cda25 You can typically find the number here, wherein you'll be able to track the progress of your particular item. Theres typically comments, etc on it. I'm kind of a dork about reporting poor road conditions in my neighborhood, and 90 percent of my 311 reports get closed within a day, but are on the city map for 2-3 weeks before theyre addressed.
  3. Green roofs are great. I've worked on a few in the Chicago Land area. Wish more Houston developments utilized them. Though 1 building isnt a lot, thousands can lower the strains on stormwater runoff system for the city-- something that would be quite apt given recent events.
  4. Im excited for the Gus's. Grew up in Memphis, TN. I'm hope the food reminds me of home.
  5. Dont think I've ever seen land surveyers plot out a building in that manner. All of those markings will get annihilated very early in construction and they'll have to repeat the work. This makes me wonder if this is for a feasibility study.
  6. Doesn't quite work that way. A building with this cross-sectional area would likely be built with driven or drilled piles, with a matt-foundation on top. The depth of the piles might more here than in NYC, but the construction technique is roughly the same. Spread Footing foundations are rare for high rise construction.
  7. Yeah I agree, that could have obscured with a parapet wall or detailing around the perimeter. Kind of odd to have it exposed like that and be so significant on the profile of the building.
  8. Mexico City, Apparently, https://www.ultimaterollercoaster.com/news/archives/february00/stories/020700_05.shtml
  9. Oh hey, this is a few blocks from my office. I'll see if I can snap some pictures tomorrow. Not a huge fan of that rendering, but those from windows are going to have a great view of the city.
  10. I visited Montreal in November. Thats how I felt about the food. How many Poutine places can I visit in a weekend? Good, but the rest of the culinary experience was either familiar with american cuisine or an influx of french quisine. Off-topic, I know... but Montreal is a good city to visit.
  11. No worries. Maybe we make a new post? lol. I would imagine this project is public record so it may require a little digging to ascertain what theyre doing. There have been a lot of coffer dams, and temporary water-routing structures built for it.
  12. I bike to work along this path. I'm not sure these pictures are regarding a new bike path or if theyre a re-alignment of the stormwater channel/white oak bayou?
  13. I'm curious as to the repairs to the structure in that garage area. You can get some significant concrete deterioration from fire if exposure was prolonged and significant.
  14. This makes me curious how that can be sustained other than through corporate deals. It seems like theres not a lot of condo's within downtown and I feel like that would balance out these units a bit. When property owners start renting out their own units, I'm sure the market would get more competitive. $6000 a month, for a rental-- and its not even a house. Like wow. I could stay in a hotel for $200 a night (200*30 = $6000), and someone would at least do my sheets every day.
  15. Ha, I rented at Camden Travis street back in 2014, I had picked the side that faces downtown specifically. It was like $200 a month extra. The following year they raised my rent $250 MORE. I bought a house 3 months later. $1700 rent at that point was too much. I only imagine that those units will be upwards of like $2500 or more
  16. Big fan of those curved corner units. They'll have a pretty awesome view of the skyline from that site if I'm correct.
  17. http://www.khou.com/news/local/2-alarm-fire-in-downton-houston-high-rise-building/212183109 There was a fire there last year.
  18. We're not going to get too many construction photos of this one except for ones from the highway. Any photos from inside the plant will be followed up by someone getting fired from their job
  19. Ive had it in California a few times. I mean, its good, its cheap. Their menu is simple. But ultimately its still fast-food.
  20. That'll fit well on that block. Overlooks the highway, the houses behind it might be taller than it. A quiet office. However the Tenant, "Gold Quest Group", is a financial services company it seems (I initially thought they were into buying and selling gold) http://www.goldquestgroup.com/
  21. Apparently a piece of glass from the facade fell off the tower ~ 2 pm.
  22. Those corner units are going to have some nice lighting. Big fan of those windows.
