  1. Well, once a poll is set, it can't be edited. However, I will take that into consideration. Depending on how this mixer goes, maybe we can set another one at Onion Creek sometime!
  2. To All HAIF Members - We are setting up a HAIF mixer on Friday, April 28th, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. Since we would like to have a good turnout, I would like your input where you would like to gather. I have attached a poll of suggestions for places to meet. Wherever we decided to meet, I'll try to get there early and reserve some tables.
  3. So far, it looks like most would like to meet on a weekend. I will try to set something up and will post details next week. If you have any other suggestions, please post!
  4. Ok, Editor, please merge the original posts with the poll if you will. After a few days, and some poll results, I'll set something up! Looking forward to meeting y'all.
  5. Two things: a. I can't figure out how to do a poll without starting a new topic b. I really want to know if anyone is interested in meeting, period. If no one is interested in meeting the faces behind the monikers, then it's no use.
  6. I would be happy to organize it, if anyone is interested in meeting our fellow "posters". Just give me some feedback when it would be best to meet. During the week or a Friday or Saturday night? Happy hour? Downtown? Midtown? Galleria? Heights?
  7. Well, the bar would be open to serve, but the tab would be up to you!!
  8. Well, that's great for those of us who are single, but, really, I'm just looking to meet some of the other folks who are interested in our great city. So, if anyone is interested in a HAIF mixer, please let me know!!!!
  9. Cool! Has anyone from HAIF attended?
  10. Going back a few months (last summer), I saw that there was a HAIF gathering at Market Square. Did anyone go? Was it successful? Anyone interested in trying to get together another evening for drinks? I would be happy to plan something if anyone else is interested. I know I can get at least 2 other posters to attend (they're alkies anyway). Please post suggestions.
  11. I haven't been to this one in a long time, but all of my Hispanic friends swear that it's the best. Taco Naso(sp) on Fulton, just south of Cavalcade. From I-45 and Cavalcade, go east, take a right on Fulton, and it's about 1 block on the right hand side, near a tire store. They do have good tacos de pastor.
  12. Ok, I didn't know which thread to put this under. I too, experienced the thrill of once again driving down Studewood last night. Passed by The Glass Wall which looks very nice. Can't wait to give that place a try - maybe have a cocktail or two.
  13. Thanks for the info nmainguy. BTW, cool new picture of the old building on Kirby coming down.
  14. The old Metronexus building on Minimax drive is now down and there is a big "For Sale" sign on the property. I thought it was supposed to be a mixed use development with some single family homes and apartments, etc. Any new info on this?
  15. Any new news on this? Does anyone know what is going in here or across the street where they tore down the old bank?
  16. The Original One's a Meal was on West Gray, next door to the River Oaks Theater. My father used to have breakfast there before attending St. Thomas High School in the late 40's. It was out Tuesday night dinner spot for many years in the 70's. I believe it closed about 15 years ago.
  17. Northwood, Do I know you? I also refer to the original Spec's location as THE MOTHER SHIP. It's like I'm in constant orbit around that place, and every once in awhile I'm sucked into the vortex. However, I always emerge much happier.
  18. Do you think that Spec's would ever venture to the Heights? Of course, it couldn't be IN the Heights, as it is dry, but what about the old Eckerd building at 20th and N. Main? Since they do have some specialty foods, etc, it may be a nice addition to the neighborhood. Anyone else have any thoughts on the subject?
  19. ** Ding Ding Ding** We have a correct answer. It was a Lucky 7 store, then Moore's, then Costa's, then HEB. However, HEB did the most extensive remodeling and expansion of the parking lot. Let's see what Barker's Beauties have for you today......
  20. Yes, you are correct NMainGuy about the Fiesta still being at Studewood and 14th. However, the store on 11th was never a Lewis & Coker, although it is a good guess. Anyone else want to play "Name That Defunct Business"??? For more Heights Trivia - there is a sign on the Boulevard at 11th Street for the "Melvalene and Carl Cohen Plaza". Carl Cohen was the original owner of the grocery store at Studewood and 14th. Studewood Food Market in the 60's was the largest single independant grocery store in the country.
  21. **Buzzzz** No, sorry Heightsguy, never a Fiesta. But thanks for playing. Don Pardo, what do we have as a lovely parting gift......?
  22. I think it would be most fitting if they tore down the old HEB on 11th and put up housing that was moved from there 20 years ago when the store was built. Ok, here's a trivia question for those who are long time Heights residents. What was the original name of the grocery store on 11th?
  23. That is correct. Also, Annunciation (next to Minute Maid Park) has a Latin mass. I'm not sure of the times though. I think Holy Rosary is a 9:30 mass.
