Sister Cities Promenade: Plans for an international park grow around Dynamo stadium

Has anyone else heard about this? I've been following the stadium development plan and this is the first I've seen of it.

Yea thats been around for awhile...Do u remember the big PDF file that had the KISS rock show in it. At least to me that was pretty memorable.

it's being changed, it will now include all of Houston's sister cities, not just the one from China.

Sister Cities of Houston hopes to fund the expected $3 million in costs through fundraising and with contributions from the participating cities.

Abu Dhabi is a sister city? Consider the project done. The change falling out of their pockets should put fundraising just over the top ;P

Anyone else go to the groundbreaking? I've never seen SJL booed like that. I guess being a politician you get used to that, but there is some serious hate towards her.

I was there. Quite the diverse and enthusiastic crowd. Yes, Sheila was greeted with a huge round of boos...I was somewhat embarrassed for her  , but she handled it stride, her voice louder than anyone else (since it was impossible to hear anyone else actually, at least where I was. Maybe they were respecting the neighbors but the mikes needed some volume).

It's a great spot for a stadium, with views of the classy skyline on one side, then with the smattering of townhouses sitting amid antiquated industrial. Quite the juxtaposition as is Houston.

She must know that she sucks....good for her for being reelected again, but she has to be sharp enough to know she's getting by on demographics and nothing more. It's really easy to hate incompetence.

Actually, the Dynamo Stadium is located in the heart of her district.

Additionally, SJL is married to a U of Administrator who was instrumental in helping broker a deal between the Dynamo and Cougars for the use of Robertson Stadium these past few years.

But, he, when there's an angry mob of white folks who are mad at the uppity woman, then why bother looking at the facts?

Like I said, she had absolutely nothing to do with the new stadium. That is the fact. And nothing you wrote even suggests otherwise.

If her husband was instrumental in anything related to the Dynamo, put him on the stage.

Can't wait to see it rise. Maybe they'll have that whole area around the stadium with some mixed used or office buildings:).

I'm thinking several 40+ story outrageously-designed residential towers... perhaps all joined at the 30th floor a al Petronas towers.

That would be awesome, having an urban layout from dynamo stadium connecting it to downtown Houston:).

That would be awesome as well.

But I can't help but wonder if we're going to have a section of town that is self sustaining BECAUSE its isolated from downtown.

Dynamo Webcam

Here is the camera from the dynamo website which should be running from here on.

This video has a tour of the site itself with a little explanation of what is going on currently. At the end they speak with Chris Canetti, the dynamo pres, says we should see the actual structure of the stadium going up in about 3 weeks.

Dr. Pepper / Snapple Deal

Dynamo have closed a deal with Dr. Pepper / Snapple for drink rights in the new stadium. This was the first year drink sponsorships were allowed in the MLS.

I like the Texas ties, now if they can just get a deal with St. Arnolds...

The construction is moving along quickly, the retaining walls on north, east, and west have been built. They have already dug down to the full depth of the field and drainage is being installed.

I didn't know that Snapple was still around. Anyone still drink it?

...and why would the MLS not allow drink sponsorships? Seems like all it would do is hamstring potential profits for teams. Plus, isn't one team called the Redbulls?

Good news for the Dynamo, though. Thanks
