wilcal
Damnit, you beat me to it. Hindesky is the fastest draw in the west. Edit: Also, when I pulled on the street and saw the tape across the road, my first thought was that they weren't allowed to close the entire street. THEN I saw the orange crane. hindesky
First thing that caught my attention was why are all these workers milling around? In the street, sitting on the curbs. I was driving north on Helena coming from Fairview. Edited September 27, 2021 by hindesky

From the aerial photos it looks like one of the telescoping sections is bent, which led me to believe that it was going to have to be disassembled before they could remove it from the site.
J Money
Do you think there's going to be an extended shutdown to investigate? I recall that occurring for the incidents at the new hotel off I45 N and the Hard Rock in Nola... certainly not nearly as bad in this situation though. It looks like at least 2 floors have been damaged. I wonder how much they'll have to repair.

HoustonBoy
So is it safe to assume that this thing will be delayed a considerable amount? How do you even repair this type of damage?
tangledwoods
Quote So is it safe to assume that this thing will be delayed a considerable amount? How do you even repair this type of damage? Looking at the photos, there isn't really all that much damage. They will spend more time arguing about who's insurance should pay what than the actual time it takes to address the damage. I would bet this sets the project back 3-4 weeks max. Having said that, if I owned that tower crane, I would claim it as a 100% loss and sue the shit out of Consolidated.....

tangledwoods
Of course the crane guy in the last photo isn't wearing a hard hat or vest. These people are a joke. Side note: Awesome photos cityliving!! 2 1
Popular Post hindesky
You can see where the crane boom landed on the raised concrete and the damage it did. The rear deck of the tower crane still has a section of the walkway missing.

Is there damage on that trailer? (If it took out a branch that size, there would be.) Here's the street view of the tree from January 2020. The branch doesn't look low enough to be taken out by a semi trailer.
Mike78
This occurred before the wind came in. But no, there was no visible damage to the trailer or truck. Their propensity for moving our trashcans out of reach of the trash trucks so they can park demonstrates stupidity and/or indifference. Either of which, combined with their recent crane fiasco, informs my opinion of what likely happened.

wilcal
Shit's on fire. 4ish fire trucks are here. Appears to be mostly contained. Edit: this first photo is dark not because of smoke but because twilight with fire truck lights roaring is tricky to photograph well. Popular Post hindesky
As I drove up a neighbor from the building east of this said it was only a small fire on the southwest side corner. He said some insulation had been left up against some bare electrical wires and it created a small fire that the HFD put out in 5 minutes. He also said they had brought about 30 various types of fire vehicles to work the fire. He mentioned that there is no wood in the building now just metal framing. It occurred on the floor 2 below the top. Work continues. North east corner. Southwest corner where the fire occurred.
wilcal
Thanks for the research! My wife mentioned that she didn't think there was any wood in the structure yet so my nerves calmed before I walked over.
