Noticed a plan review permit this morning. Might be a very small apartment building. Definitely will take out some old 1960 buildings. We will see if this turns into anything big.

It's not quite going up yet, but I'm confident it will be soon as there have been recent reports about their plans including this one from this past Friday. We can change the title once it is announced. From the article: The article also mentions that other potential locations are the Med Center, Energy Corridor, downtown and even suburban locations like The Woodlands and Sugar Land. http://www.chron.com/business/sarnoff/article/Sarnoff-Ashby-high-rise-developers-request-first-3832588.php#photo-3396224

This is the building next to Chuy's. Mody Plaza River Oaks is a 2 story residence home that has been converted into a retail store. The structure is made of wood, stucco and brick spanning 2500 sq ft. River Oaks is a residential community located in the center of Houston. Located between downtown and Uptown, the community spans 1,100 acres. Established in the 1920s , the community became a well-publicized national model for community planning. River Oaks is the wealthiest and most expensive community in Texas and among the top ten in the United States. Real estate values in the community range from $1 million to over $20 million. The community is home to River Oaks Country Club, which includes a golf course designed by architect Donald Ross. The largest River Oaks racial/ethnic groups are Hispanic (50.1%) followed by White (45.8%) and Asian (2.9%). In 2012, the median household income of River Oaks residents was $42,045. River Oaks Boulevard, a road that runs through the center of the community, is lined on both sides by mansions and estates located away from the street. Bloomberg Businessweek has ranked River Oaks as the seventh most expensive housing blocks in the United States https://modyspace.com/RiverOaks-Details

Former home of Gerald Hines in River Oaks hits market for $34.5M https://www.bizjournals.com/houston/news/2021/03/10/gerald-hines-former-home-river-oaks-for-sale.html The Mediterranean-style mansion that late Houston real estate mogul Gerald Hines called home for decades is officially on the market with an asking price of $34.5 million. The 17,405-square-foot, three-story mansion at 2920 Lazy Lane sits on a 4.5-acre property in the Homewoods neighborhood of River Oaks. The primary home has four to five bedrooms and 11 bathrooms. There's also an adjoining guest apartment and a separate caretaker’s residence. Hines, who died in August at the age of 95, was, of course, known for his keen interest in real estate. For his own home, Hines turned to close friend and renowned architect Philip Johnson for advice. Johnson recommended New York-based Robert A.M. Stern Architects to design an Italian-style villa that recalled Hines’ vacations in Tuscany. Stern Architects is known for designing estates for wealthy homebuyers around the world. When the home was completed in 1992, Hines nicknamed it Adagio, Italian for “at a slow tempo.” The home features a number of design elements reminiscent of its Mediterranean muses, including terra cotta roof tiles, white columns, grand hallways with arched doorways and domed ceilings.

So, I was walking down W Main St., after a workout, and right next to the new midrise/ townhouse development, which is going up in the area, there was demolition of two houses and possibly the other two that lead up to Weslayan St. I'm sure swamplot had them in a demolition report at some point, but was immediately curious what might take their place. If all 4 of those houses go then certainly some sort of mini midrise or large townhomes will replace these. Any idea what's up? Sorry I don't have any pictures.

I know that Gene Tierney lived in Houston from 1960 - 1991 and is buried in Glenwood cemetary, but I never hear about her home/house. I believe she may have lived in River Oaks...does anyone know which house?

I'm new to the forum but a long time real estate nut. Please let me know if this needs to be posted elsewhere more relevant on the site. This news is far from current, but I haven't been able to find a lot of information about it. Most of the relevant info can be found in this article from 2017. TL;DR - billionaire energy trader demolishes historic Houston home across the street from his billionaire brother who also demolished a historic Houston home. My question - is there any information as to the builder / architect? I drove by it the other day and it currently has a massive steal frame with some bizarre concrete walls visible on google street view which is what caused me to come here for help because it looks absolutely wild. Thanks y'all.

Although it's called "The Hobbit Cafe" currently, I want to say that at one time (late 70s / early 80s) it was called "The Hobbit Hole Cafe". Does anyone remember if that's true? I also wonder if the building looks different or has been remodeled since back then. Driving by there more recently, it seemed to have a different appearance from memory.

I noticed a variance sign at the "curve" on Shepherd just over the overpass at W. Dallas and Shepherd (near Tila's restaurant). There is an existing office building where the sign was. Does anybody know what the plans are for this site? It looks awfully cramped.
