  1. If you look at the render, Double Trouble's building *is* there, it just has a strange second story extension built above it. If I remember correctly, the original plan was to tear down the building, but when the developer actually started clearing it out he decided it was worth keeping.
  2. I'm not judging them for being anti-OTC. I am also anti-OTC. But, at the very least, the staff will be largely different between the two locations. I'm sure there will be some overlap, but if the manager and most of the staff are different, it's at least possible that the bagby location will be run a bit differently, at least in terms of how it relates to the neighborhood.
  3. I will admit, OTC would not be my first choice if I lived in the area. Nevertheless, youre judging a bar that hasnt even opened yet. I just wonder if you would be happy with *any* similar business in that location. Your townhouse may have been there before Union, but not before the building itself, which was clearly retail. Bagby is not exactly a quiet, neighborhood street, so, particularly considering the lack of zoning, there was always a risk of a rowdy bar moving in. And yes, if Texans are stupid, what exactly are you?
  4. Um, it's a bar being replaced by a bar in a bar-heavy part of town. What exactly is the issue here?
  5. theres just so little to say about this development. It's ...ok? It could be worse? It's better than a vacant lot? It's boring, and the only remotely interesting thing about it is its orientation; it faces a tiny, minor side street. That being said, i like paying half as much for higher quality sandwiches.
  6. rad. more parking facing white oak would be a mistake.
  7. Why would anyone go to Potbelly when there are half a dozen banh mi places within a few blocks?
  8. eh, opening night isnt generally the best time to judge a restaurants food. I'm waiting a couple of weeks before I try Goro and Gun to give them some time to work out the kinks.
  9. Mai's, Tacos a-go-go, gotham pizza, plus a few places in montrose that arent exactly far away. That being said, there do need to be a lot more.
  10. I like Clutch City Squire. It was pretty dead last Saturday, but the prices seemed reasonable and they did have local crafts on tap. I'm really looking forward to when they open the second floor in a couple weeks. I hate the name though. It makes it sound like a sports bar, which it really isn't. Plus it's just too long and not terrible memorable.
  11. at least it looks contemporary. better than I was expecting, particularly opposite the faux-new orleans thing across the street.
  12. blackfinn is, strictly speaking, in a mixed-use building.
  13. It doesn't seem like we have much in the way of concrete information here. It would make more sense if the plans are actually to redevelop the lots to the north, east and south of the park. That's quite a lot of land that looks pretty underutilized right now.
  14. More infrastructure! Less turning perfectly good brown buildings blue!
  15. Yeah that grove is amazing. It's a large site though, plenty of room to build the hotel and keep the trees. Not that I expect that, but it's certainly possible.
  16. Ultimately, increasing the number of students housed on campus will help as well. Just having lots of people out walking throughout the day should help curb crimes of opportunity. That being said, this is a large campus, and it doesn't seems like we have any more crime than any other university I've attended. When I was at the University of Minnesota we had a couple of robberies at gunpoint in faculty members' own offices.
  17. Yeah this thing is actually pretty good. I would prefer something a bit less architecturally banal, but at least its not faux Tuscan or something.
  18. Huh. I can't quite figure out what angle this rendering is from. Is this from the south looking north? What's with the weird landscaped driveway ...thing? It just seems like a huge waste of space.
