1. I truly sympathize. In fact we used to park our cars right near the balllpark al the time before meters were installed. Listen to this one. I parked my car in the same spot one morning, walked back to car after work and no car to be found. There were (to my amazement) new meters installed while I was at work. They still towed everyone all along that block. I hate to even hark back to that day. The crap hole tow place could have cared less of "how" my car got there just to pay up or get charged an outrageous amt each day it sat there. You could grind your teeth in anger as much as you want. Best of luck.
2. When I lived in LA several yrs ago, I had a lady boss that was from England. I loved everything about her, mannerisms, style and most of all her Brit accent! I should start a blog that begs Brits to move to my area. Dream come true, dont even care if rich or poor just change. Then we could really call ourselves "The Eastenders" lol. http://www.bbc.co.uk/eastenders/
3. Archbishop Daniel N. DiNardo lead the services at last nights huge special Chrism mass. I had not attended a service her in a good while but it never ceases to amaze me of what a grand place this is. Aside all the features and grandness of the building, its the effect the mass has on myself period. Sure wish Haif came with sound effects. The choir must be large and the sound of the Baroque pipe organ is something one must experience 1st hand. If I closed my eyes I would think I were in The Vatican, seriously. There had to have been over 1,000 in attendance last night and lasted a very long time. There were several processions as mass commenced. There were many uniformed men from Knights of Colombus leading in just before the (hundreds of new priests) entered & were seated. There were rows and rows of Sisters from numerous Convents from around the state in various colored attire. Reminded me of when we saw the Pope in Toronto for World Youth Day (Google) several years ago. There were several local news cameras on site to capture all of the images and action that night. Surreal.
4. Oh my God, This reminds me of whey they discovered that some (sleazy) nearby apts (behind Sellers on 45 at Wayside exit) were caught running long plastic hoses into the bayou for human waste disposal. This went on for several months to over a year. The slumlords were either too lazy to fix the sewage in that dump or the renters just took upon themselves. It was very 3rd world. Barf out!
5. One great idea several fast food chain drive thru's have started doing is having a trash receptacle in place as you exit the drive thru window. Human nature for many to remove paper wrapper from the straw and quickly chunk out the window. This deters or rather encourages such mindless notions with this somewhat high trash can with extended door. Now how can we discourage people from pouring soft drinks onto the parking lot so when you exit or enter your auto you dont step into it? Asking too much I suppose. Ants love it but we dont!
6. What an irony, I was driving back from Galvez yesterday and once I got to Mall of the Mainland (45 heading in) there was a huge grass fire just on the right side. There were several fires trucks trying to extinguish the smoldering fire which was so thick you could hardly see on the frwy. It had to be a blasted cigarette butt from a car passing on 45 what else? Think people, think!
7. Now here is a good reason to get away from that blasted TV and go to your old time fav restaurant! This event happens tomorrow! A real trip back in time!
Swing Has Returned To Prince's Hamburgers! Tuesday, April 7th
After a long absence, Swing has returned to Prince's Hamburgers! Take a trip back in time to when burgers were huge and juicy, onion rings counted as a full helping of vegetables and could make you stand up and shout, people drank creamy delicious milkshakes, not Aquafina-- and cholesterol did not exist! Swing the evening away with tunes from Prince's fabulous jukebox, and get re-acquainted with your inner Jitterbug!Pull out your dancing shoes from 7 to 9 pm on the second Thursday (unless otherwise posted) of each month, and head out to Prince's Hamburgers on the Southwest Freeway at Wesleyan (map)! Be sure to thank the manager, and enjoy a 5% discount during the event by mentioning you're a Swing Dancer!
8. If anyone could show at least ONE photo of this Drive-In theater??? I guess I am a tad younger cause the only drive in theater I remember that far out was the old McClendon Triple Theater which we teens used to go to around 1974 to 1981? The McClendon has been discussed here on Haif a while back plsu the neato commercials they used to show in intermission. Never can forget 1$ dollar Monday nights. Just one buck got you in or if you were daring FREE if you crammed in the truck of the car.
9. Which Batmobile are you asking about? The original from the 1960's TV series or the newest ones? There are several topics on Haif regarding Batman telephone numbers, events, etc. (do a search) Ironically, Adam West from the original show was in a cameo the other night at the very end of Family Guy? Cracked me up.
10. Not sure if it was explained but by pronouncing EoDo, would it be Ea like in East then Do like in (dow) as in downtown? Either way is lousy. I wonder if you can still buy itching powder at funshops? I would shake into anyones pockets if they try to promote this most unpopular term.
11. Finally the answer to your question D Julio: Drum roll......The band leader (standing) was name Mike Rasso or Mike Razzo. I just found some more interior pics of several Latin night clubs in color too! Just have to scan and post of course. Addtional note, I know many (now elderly) former board members of some of Houston oldest Latin organizations that could provide tons of stories and pics. Time is running out I'm afraid. Stories that must be told. This just an image I kind of like that reminds me of this era.
12. The speedo, seedoo thru eado just killed me! Subdude was right it must be a ploy of some sort to sound "terminally hip or ultra-cool". Lets see now, if Peek a chew & ScoobEado lived in Eado wearing a Speedo on a seedo....possibilities are endless.
13. Will alert you of upcoming Professional mixer's in a PM, but you must be present ...of course. Actually pics tell all but cannot divulge on this forum due to obvious reasons..nut cases for one.
14. If they gave everyone east of downtown a Seedo, then we would be Eado with a seedoo...Next? Honestly, though if I so much as overhear anyone in public say Eado, first it will be loud laughter then crown them on on the head with a frying pan. Much too much.
15. Can you imagine all the stories the walls could tell us? Speaking of walls, I would have carefully ripped away the walls/floors to see if any relics were hidden away from the fuzz, or hoods. This place could have been a real hot spot during prohibition days so you never know. Surely there could have been hidden compartments, etc. Bet it was funny when the train rolled by everyone must have thought it was a raid? Ja!
16. All the time Most is good though. Facebook is where I cannot believe some don't use better judgement. Linked In is another one that should always be professional unless the person is an idiot. Many, and I do mean many employers use these sites to see what kind of a freak, or business like person you are...well at least while at work. Hee, hee
17. Is it possible that at least one of these old dance clubs is still there on OG??? I had asked on another topic about a mysterious large white painted hacienda type low roofed wide building on OG near Howard Drive and RR tracks. Many times I drove by and wondered what kind of place it once was? Wish I had a pic, perhaps I will drive by and take one unless it has been leveled by now? It was on the right side as you drive north on OG towards Milby High School vicinity. This place had a huge parking area further sparking the mystery.
18. There is a new one being built in newer Pasadena with same new logo. It doesnt have "punch". and yes, that human body with round ball head has become trite & mundane. It has run its course, latest ads have him or "it" in a coma in a hospital, pretty tasteless advertising. Just very unfunny. Why is he married to a human looking woman, etc? Scary. What do the neighbors say? lol
19. Wow! Thos pics were pretty groovy! Sure wish we had more of the Gulf Freeway under construction.
20. Has anyone ever been able to have an avocado tree that beared avocados and they were tasty like at the grocer? and if you did how tall was it before it started making some?
21. You will adore Angel's Trumpet. Remember, although it is beautiful to see and has a very nice fragrance even at night, it is supposed to be pousinous, do a Google. I have seen 2 types white with a light pink ting on edge & yellow. I once saw one in Galveston strand district I think it was Post Office street and that one wa so tall and huge it was like what in tarnation? It actually cascaded over an arbor over the sidewalk. I hadnt seen anyhting that colorful & awesome since I was in West coast beach areas. That nursery we mentioned way up above has them and not expensive either. Palms Nursery near Baybrook Mall. I have several I can give you but dont know ya. I bet if I placed some in Bags on curb they would vanish quick! Very easy to grow too. Ours is about 2 ft wide and makes a constant abundance of bells (trumpets) especially after a good rain! It has soooo many it tilts from the weight, serious!
22. WHAT!? They used to pack em that place...always. I was just dreaming of a hot turkey w/dressing, cranberry sauce, brocolli & cheese, steamed vegetables & salad plus a tall ice tea & fresh cornbread. (bewildered look) Remodeling perhaps? I was in dire need of that of course.
23. More than likely "dumped" into our (finally coming back) Near East End Seems to happen every 5-10 years. Already visible signs at Gulfgate Home Depot. Its 3rd world out there and no sign of improving. Other topic. The building next to Fingers Furniture was targeted a few months ago so here we go again. Can't beat em join em I guess,...Pass the bottle please!
