  1. It was mentioned on swamplot last week, which stated it would more or less be gone by mid-August
  2. You'd think such a history would have a tangible effect on the sales price...it seems like a lot of the more recent serial killer-related housing - think BTK, Dahmer, several others - have been torn down or are planned to be torn down. This house has somehow slipped through the cracks, and I think it'd be difficult to find a place that has witnessed more murders...at least in this part of the country
  3. I did some digging into this on my own as well, and read that the shed was indeed on Silver Bell St - it's only a small stretch of road in SW Houston, which seems consistent with the descriptions I've read. There are several shed-looking structures in that stretch, which can easily be seen on maps.live.com (maybe even in streetview on google?). I couldn't find anything in my digging on hcad.org in terms of when these structures were built, though, or at least nothing to make me think they existed back in the 70's Stories like this are obviously disturbing, but for some reason I want to see where it all happened...as is obviously the case with some others here. It was surprising to see that Corll's house in Pasadena still stands, and that we can now see it on something like streetview. I can't imagine living in that place...reminds me of the Amityville horror house - not physically, but talk about a terrible history
  4. Isn't Gables involved with the possible development at Shepherd and W Alabama as well? Seems strange, considering the old Little Woodrows site is so close... Haven't heard much on that deal since the land was sold
  5. I made it around 5:30, and there were actually some spots on the top floor...gasp! Same when I left around 6:30... I think the morale of the story is to work out on "off" days like Tuesday/Thursday, as it didn't seem as bad as it did yesterday. Hopefully the weekends will be light
  6. I've already been in the new place, so apparently mine works there. From her description, I can get into any club in the country with the exception of one super-duper sport in California. I signed up at the one off of Post Oak back in January, and got the same deal for a friend a week later. Maybe certain times of the year are better for deals? You think it would be the summer, though, since people are falling off of their resolutions by this point. Whatever the case, I think I'd sign up at a different 24 hour, but one that gives you the same level of access A few years ago I had a month-to-month with 24, and it was like $20/month but only let me work out 4 days of the week. Not sure if they still have that option, but it worked out fairly well if you had a pretty set work-out routine
  7. OK - just looked and saw the same thing. That's a rip off... I'd either call them or go there and see if they don't offer something better - if they don't, wait for some sort of promotion. That, or join Fit
  8. Where did you get that $50/month quote? I pay $25ish month-to-month for access to all clubs.. If you got that quote over the phone, I would recommend going to one to talk to someone. At the time, the lady told me that each employee can offer a couple of these discounts a month - sounded like total B.S., but it was a decent rate so I took it. That was only a few months ago, so I'd be willing to bet you can get something similar
  9. Agreed...I went by at 6:15 or so, which turned out to be a mistake. All 3 floors were more or less full, even though parking is apparently only supposed to be on the top floor. I likely could have found a spot on another floor or the street, but it must have been packed as all hell in there... Assuming that lunch is relatively crowded as well, I wonder how the parking situation might play in trying to land retail tenants
  10. Wow...it'll be amazing to walk by without the stench of that perpetually flooded basement-level parking garage. I'm pretty sure something has to be living in there by this point... I'll also miss the painted "Hotel"
  11. Sweet...I had heard a rumor it was delayed until August, but the website says "now open for workouts." I'll see if I can't get my lazy a$$ there tonight to check it out. I'd promise a full report, but it's just a gym... I'll probably be able to confirm/refute the "beautiful instructors only" thing pretty quickly, though
  12. Haha...that's right, I had forgotten that was my first post. Also forgot out one-time poster with the details on Phase II. Could get pretty crowded around there (especially at the park!), but at least they're in contact with the neighborhood.
  13. I don't really understand c.) - don't most people who work out of home do so to save money, be around their families, etc? Why would these people want to lease space somewhere? I would expect the money-saving/being at home issue to dominate any commute issues; the Heights isn't exactly BFE And no, I don't understand the office space market. Are there any similar projects in the city? That newer midrise around Montrose and Richmond comes to mind, but the proposed mix here sounds more interesting if they can pull it off Anyway, sounds like a cool proposal, but it definitely seems like it'd be way out of scale
  14. Per the latest planning commission draft agenda, this variance request is for a "two story open air pre-fab metal building" for El Patio - the structure would apparently encroach a 10' setbetack on Bremond. I'm a little confused, though...didn't they already have a two story patio a while back?
  15. FWIW, it looks like they are redoing the sidewalks in front...dumpster odor could still be an issue, though
  16. I think he's referring to the 24 Hour Fitness sign - hopefully it will open soon, though something tells me it will be packed as he$$. Someone told me they thought it would open in June?
  17. The light rail - if/when it comes - will no doubt give the infrastructure around there a much needed boost, at least aesthetically. At the cost of no left turns anywhere, of course I'm hoping this new complex helps cleans things up and ultimately leads to something happening with Wilshire Village and that shopping center across the street. I only live a few blocks away, but have only been inside that Fiesta once
  18. From what you could tell, is front of the complex going to be set back to where it appears now? Or is that really the middle of the complex? I've only seen one rendering of it, and it was pretty low quality... If they've still got to build more units up to Richmond, it might be a while yet before they're finished The brick is good news, but the final look of this place is a mystery... My big hope is that it will lead to a clean up (removal) of some of those rough complexes along that strip of Richmond
  19. Hmmm...yeah, I noticed the sudden onslaught of banners there as well. However, I swear the "Mix @ Midtown" banner I saw showed the building that's currently under construction - along with hundreds of people in the streets (we'll have to see about that, haha) Anyway, at Crosspoint's website, the new building at Louisiana and Elgin is 23,400 sq ft on the first floor alone, so it would be close to 50,000 sq ft if you tack on the 24 hr fitness. If it said 50,000 sq ft "available", though, I would guess another building is indeed in the works?
  20. I also saw some pretty thick, black smoke - pretty intense looking for a grass fire
  21. I live in the area as well, and I'm actually pretty excited about these apartments - congestion aside, it's a heck of a lot better than the barren wasteland it was for a while there, and maybe the influx of people will help local businesses...and you thought La Tapatia was crowded late-night before? If nearby Wilshire Village is eventually (ever?) torn down to make room for apartments/condos, though, I can definitely see traffic becoming an even bigger issue All that aside, it seems that the area is in a pretty slow reversal of rental back to ownership through tear-downs
  22. Is there a rendering anywhere? I thought maybe there had been one when the project was first announced, but I can't seem to find one...
  23. Perhaps a sign of the times - but that lot has sat empty since July, and is now back on the market again! Something tells me money was lost on this deal... Is there any sort of breakdown of building permits (for townhomes, etc) by neighborhood? It'd be interesting to see how they've done over the past few months in Montrose and elsewhere
