Houston-based Satya marked a construction milestone with the topping out of the dual branded Hyatt Place and Hyatt House Medical Center hotel.

The 350,000-square-foot structure, which broke ground at 7329 Fannin near Old Spanish Trail  near the Texas Medical Center in November, reached its final height of 14 stories. A ceremonial tree was hoisted to the top to signal the placement of the final beam.

Slated for completion in 2022, the 298-room hotel is blocks away from TMC3, a 40-acre research campus under construction in the Texas Medical Center. TMC3 will bring 950,000 square feet of research space, a hotel and a residential tower in the first phase alone in 2023.

“TMC3 was a big factor in our decision to build, as well as the fact that the hotel occupancy in the medical center was much higher than in other parts of town,” said Sunny Bathija, CEO of Satya, the owner and developer for the project.  “We definitely felt the need for this project in the Medical Center. TMC3 just made it more compelling.”

Nearby, the 267-room Blossom Hotel recently opened at 7118 Bertner and the 300-room Hilton Garden Inn and Home2 Suites by Hilton opened at 6840 Almeda.

The new hotel will be the first Hyatt dual-branded property in Houston, with 159 Hyatt Place and 139 extended-stay Hyatt House rooms. E.E. Reed Construction is the general contractor and IBC Bank provided financing.

Satya's hospitality portfolio includes The Tru by Hilton in Cypress; La Quinta in Spring; and The Marriott near John F. Kennedy Airport in New York City.
