texan Posted May 3 Share Posted May 3 Texas A&M's building at Helix Park will not be moving forward. The money is being reallocated in the new capital plan to improvements in the Alkek Building and at Innovation Plaza. The project is now called "Alkek IBT Building Lab Expansion/Renovation & EnMed Build-out". One of the notes says "$69,897,111 was authorized by the Legislature for Texas A&M University TMC3 Biomedical Research Bldg. The project was originally planned to be located at TMC3 in Houston. As provided for in the legislation, the new project will be located just outside the Houston medical center in buildings currently owned by TAMUS, the Albert B. Alkek IBT Building and EnMed Building. The renovations and expansion project will provide the needed space and address the original purpose of the CCAP authorization. The CCAP project will not move forward until Legislative requirements are met, POR is complete and funding is finalized." I wonder if this is solely due to Medistar's failure to purchase the Alkek building, as originally planned (the programs from the Alkek building were going to move to the Helix Park building), or an apparent different industry-focused direction at TMC Helix Park (originally UTHealth and MD Anderson were supposed to have buildings actually in Helix Park rather than adjacent to it I believe). 2 1 2 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

bobruss Posted May 9 Share Posted May 9 After hearing the news about Austin's major setbacks this week, I'm glad to see that Houston is taking a slower pace at growth and not putting the cart before the horse. Steady wins the race. Oracle has decided to move to Nashville, stating that Austin is not a good town for startups due to lack of funding, cost of living and the fact that Austin, isn't what people thought it would be. Tesla to lay off 2,500 workers, thanks to Elons ability to ruin things with his poor judgement. He might be a genius but he talks too much and a lot of things he says rubs a lot of people the wrong way. Several of the new office towers coming online have no one to fill them to go along with an empty Google building and the stories concerning the fact that many of the tech companies are going back to Silicon Valley, Houston and other places, doesn't bode well for the new tallest building in Texas. 8 Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...

Too bad they didn't consider Houston... With Helix park under construction alongside levitt green the ceo could have given us a chance. They're becoming a much more impactful city overall but it doesn't happen overnight and like all trends, they fade.
