ALLEN
I am new to the area and I love shrimp. Where is the best shrimp in Houston at? I am NOT looking for a restaurant, by the way. Edited June 12, 2014 by ALLEN
fatesdisastr
This might be a good topic to put in the "Houston Area Dining, Shopping and Entertainment" forum

Hey Allen, welcome. I guess the first question to ask is in which part of town are you currently living? As the best seafood is found over in Clear Lake and Galveston areas - fresh from the Gulf and easy to buy in bulk from the area shrimpers/processors. However, if you live in Cypress that may not be an easy trip for you. In that case you may be better off buying at one of the nicer area grocers? mollusk
I've found that some of the Asian markets can have a pretty good selection of fresh shrimp (and other fish and seafood).
brhaltx
Kemah (there are many places...) or Dickinson. Hillman's in Dickinson has been there forever, and own their own boats. http://hillmansseafoodmarket.com/ They do oysters too, in season. Last week, they had live crab, live crawfish (I don't think they caught those...), a couple of kinds of fish, shrimp (~$8/pound for the biggest (whole), I think), crab ($1 each).

skwatra
Isn't all the shrimp frozen on the boat after they are caught then just thawed out the day they are sold?
brhaltx
Grocery store shrimp is (usually?) "previously frozen"; I doubt that Hillman's (and hopefully the places in Kemah, if they own their own boats) freezes what they sell in their own store.
