CaptainJilliams
Not sure, I drive by the place every now and then and haven't noticed any changes. Wasn't this supposed to have opened last November? Must have run into some issues.
gene
Just looked at their facebook page MagicIslandHTX and they posted this 6 weeks ago in response to the same inquiry: Magic island Hi Mark! No updates as of yet. We are still waiting on the green light from the city to continue construction, but once we have an opening date we will announce it first through our newsletter off our website at www.magicislandhtx.com. Thanks for asking! 2
hindesky
"Fifteen years after it shut down Magic Island — a campy and iconic Houston landmark — may be close to reopening. Admittedly, we’ve heard this before: In 2018, the former dinner theater and magic venue underwent renovations and planned to reopen. But one pandemic later, the giant building topped by a pharaoh head that peered over the Southwest Freeway may actually be returning." https://www.houstonchronicle.com/news/houston-texas/houston/article/magic-island-may-be-reopening-18493486.php
Specwriter
I said it five years ago and I'll repeat it now: Life is becoming great again. I've since moved away from Houston but return now and then. I think I would enjoy a visit to a renovated Magic Island.

hindesky
After the Astrodome, Magic Island may be Houston’s second-most famous abandoned entertainment venue. The club, shuttered for 10 years, will finally reopen this summer. Many Houstonians will be happy that stage magic is returning. And the club plans to offer private gambling tables this time around. https://www.houstonchronicle.com/lifestyle/article/magic-island-gambling-houston-18976178.php

j_cuevas713
I've never been a fan of gimmicky stuff like this but I do appreciate the time they're taking to renovate the building
gene
Now they are saying that it wont offer gambling! https://abc13.com/videoClip/14554947/#:~:text=gambling-,Houston's iconic Egyptian-themed Magic Island, not gambling venue%2C owner says&text=The owner of Houston's Magic, venue will not offer gambling. maybe they wanted to do it secretly but then after somehow announced they are having to dispute it? bet there will be a hidden room ;) also for awhile there it looked like they went shopping for decor at the dollar store and big lots :/ hopefully they decided to spend a little if not a lot more ;)
