bach
RRI Energy, located in 1000 Main, is merging with Atlanta-based Mirant. lockmat
from Chron:It's still too early to say where the cuts will come from among the companies' some 3,600 combined employees. RRI has about 450 employees in Houstonpretty small companies, but Atlanta will be adding quite a bit.
TheNiche
pretty small companies, but Atlanta will be adding quite a bit.Bear in mind, most of these employees are not headquarters employees. They also own 49 power plants, and a lot of these guys are on-site.
citizen4rmptown
From my reading, though, the CEO will be from Mirant Corp, not RRI.
Houston19514
From my reading, though, the CEO will be from Mirant Corp, not RRI.Yes, but he's moving to Houston. (And he will be CEO only until 2013, when the RRI guy will take over)

Subdude
Power stations have fewer employees than one would expect. Both companies have very large trading and back office organizations, although I expect part of the rationale for the merger is to squeeze personnel cost savings out of these functions. Obviously there's a big difference between a nuclear plant and a small gas turbine facility meant to help satisfy peak loads only.
Trae
So, will the Texans start playing in "GenOn Stadium"?
