houstonmacbro Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Apparently the State of Texas is holding unclaimed money for thousands of Texans (this is real and not a gimmick ... I just helped my mother reclaim money):Check it out and be sure to tell your family and friends to do the same:https://txcpa.cpa.state.tx.us/up/Search.jsp Quote

houstonmacbro Posted February 17, 2008 Author Posted February 17, 2008 I just spoke with my sister and niece. Found them a combined $400. Just got through printing the forms to take to them. Quote
Original Timmy Chan's Posted February 17, 2008 Posted February 17, 2008 Sweet...I found $1.91 that's been owed me since 2005. Is there a way I can just donate this to the State General Fund? Next time we get a tax decrease, you can thank me! Quote
nativehou Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 I found 6 bucks from 2006. But they're asking for my social security number -- and I'd rather not take the risk for $6. Quote

nativehou Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 What risk? It is a well known state website.Any time I have to type in my SSN and send it over the airwaves, I better be sure it's for something worthwhile. $6 is not worthwhile. Quote
gwilson Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Again, I'm asking, what risk?No one is sitting around waiting to packet-sniff your IP address in hopes you are going to claim $6 and type in your SSN. In fact, one doesn't need much more than a $10 a month account to a variety of online services which deal with public records, and a name.Identity theft doesn't happen the way most people think it does. There is no real risk when you type your SSN in to a secure website. But they're asking for my social security number -- and I'd rather not take the risk for $6.You can just call the number listed and speak to a real person. They can mail you out the form if you would rather not do it online.Personally, I think there is more risk speaking to someone than doing it online. People can be hacked (or enticed to steal) more easily than a website. Just my two cents. Quote
memebag Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 A former employer owes me 72 cents. Yippee! Quote
westguy76 Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Sweet, found an unclaimed refund from Houston Community College for $82.00.Thanks for posting this. Quote
nativehou Posted February 18, 2008 Posted February 18, 2008 Again, I'm asking, what risk? The risk of my own uneasiness -- even if it's unreasonable. Quote
houstonmacbro Posted February 18, 2008 Author Posted February 18, 2008 The risk of my own uneasiness -- even if it's unreasonable. Well, if you do not have any money there it is no issue. If you do have money you can just call the number and speak to a real person. I am not seeing where your uneasiness would prevent you from getting your money, provided you have money there. To search for money you do not have to enter your SSN. Just a name and city. Quote
