Gambling In Texas Debate

Recommended Posts

This is exactly what it will bring. Nothing but increased revenue for OUR state, and beautifucation to Galveston island. Maybe we can finally get those beaches cleaned up by all the new tax revenue genrated.

Now, there will definately be an increase in prositution, drinking and driving and other crimes. These things just go hand in hand, but I guarantee that Galveston will also increase their police force accordingly to combat these crimes. All casinos are "corporate owned" entities now. The old Mobster days are far gone. Those that say that gambling also affects families because of those that have "gambling problems". Well, those people that have gambling problems are no different than those that have drinking problems or drug problems. These same people that have "gambling problems" WILL drive 2 hours to Louisiana, so there is no argument there.

Hello, McFly! The things you just named is already here in Houston and Galveston. Go on the south side, prositution is king there. Drinking and driving? Come on this is Texas! Crimes?! Crimes?! Houston have crimes every single day, son. Turn on your television for a change.

Texans already voting by their feet traveling back and forth to Louisiana gambling.

If gambling is a boon you sure can't tell it by looking at Louisana.

Much the same can be said of Nevada.

Yeah, Vegas is a "Ghostown":rolleyes:

Semi, do us all a favor and NEVER quote me, as you obviously don't read before you do. I said an INCREASE, Chief ! Go back to your crackpipe and bottle of Shlitz and stay in your desinated area of Stadia threads.

You can't get no more INCREASE in crime like it is now in Houston. So, does it really matter Texas legalize gambling? No! It's no damn difference.

Hell, louisiana getting our damn money, and I'm one of them giving. Texas losing billions and billions of dollars to our next door neighbors.

I say HELL YA! LEGALIZE GAMBLING IN TEXAS! Guess what? The main ones don't want it here be the main ones gambling.

Current lottery funds are used as a replacement for education funds which are shifted to other areas of state spending-not as a suppliment. Therefore, there has been no enhancement to the education fund [as promised]. 60% goes to winnings. Almost 30% goes to the Foundation School Fund. Around 10% goes to vendors.

In the last 10 years only 8 billion dollars has been deposited into the fund.

I'm not arguing for or against...I just feel our elected officials should have their feet held to the fire until we are assured that where they say the profits will end up will actually end up there.

I'd like to see the Las Vegas $trip placed inbetween Downtown & Uptown.

That would knock out some rather charming and unique portions of the city (Allen Pky, Montrose, River Oaks) how about putting it between downtown and Baytown instead.... the east freeway corridor needs a makeover in the worst way.

What are the odds that Tillman Fertitta uses his resources to make gambling legal in Texas? He now owns a whole campus in Uptown. Perhaps, one day, a casino will be built on his campus?

As I always say, I wish Texas would use the taxable revenue to build more infrastructure, etc.  Legalizing gambling would bring lots of money to the state.

I had the same thought when he purchased the property by Memorial Dr, it was right around the same time Mark Cuban sold some land to Las Vegas Sands Corp for a potential casino in Dallas. Seems like they are just waiting for the opportunity to come to build them.
