Phase 3 broke ground a while ago. I uploaded some pictures from about a month ago to the Phase 3 thread in the Midtown forum. The construction is currently further along than whats in the pics. http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/24809-post-midtown-phase-iii/page__st__30

Well if they are working with the MMD, who are trying to promote a pedestrian friendly district, then hopefully it looks decent.
-
Interesting. Anything is better than what's currently there. Hopefully it's pedestrian friendly....

The Babgy Street Improvements are scheduled to start next week acording to Midtown's facebook page.... "Bagby Street Reconstruction - Reconstruction of Bagby Street from St. Joseph to Tuam including two blocks on Pierce Street from Baldwin to Brazos. The project will include concrete pavement, public utility upgrades (water, storm, sanitary), enhanced intersections, wider sidewalks, landscaping, street furniture, brick pavers, accessibility ramps and other pedestrian-related infrastructure. Upgrades to the storm water system will be made to address regional drainage issues. Project is currently in design; construction scheduled to begin in 1Q2012."

I've never eaten there, but the look of the place seemed to make the are look lively every time I walked by especially at night (as seen in the picture above). Hopefully someone new opens a place in there soon.

There's a new 'Caffeine & Cocktail' lounge called Double Trouble that opened up near the Continental Club. That area seems to be adding a bunch of stuff. http://www.chron.com/news/article/Double-Trouble-Caffeine-amp-Cocktails-offers-2430991.php

I think the convention center plan has been around for a little while, but a great plan nonetheless. Maybe it's picking up a little bit of steam since there was an article a few weeks ago that mentioned the 1,000 room hotel next to GRB was back on the table, so who knows. If the Convention District and the Dallas Street Shopping District plan ever get off the ground, then that would definitely be huge for downtown. Only time will tell....

The downtown management district has a plan in place for a shopping/entertainment district as mentioned in the thread below. Hopefully something like this will be done sooner rather than later. We will see.... http://www.houstonarchitecture.com/haif/topic/25699-downtown-proposes-shopping-entertainment-district/ -

I took a few pics of Phase III this morning from the second story of my building in Post Midtown looking west. On the far side you can see concrete is poured and it's starting to rise. Not the greatest pics in the world...

This looks to be back on the drawing board. "A 2008 proposal to bring another major convention center hotel to downtown is back on the drawing board. The details of the plan are a little different this time around, but the goal is the same: at least 1,000 rooms in a high-rise hotel on a parcel that mirrors the Hilton Americas across Discovery Green park. Houston First, an independent corporation that runs the George R. Brown Convention Center, Hilton Americas and other city-owned buildings, has hired Georgia-based Strategic Advisory Group to help craft a formal request to developers who design, build, own and finance the new hotel. The hotel would be part of a larger mixed-use development that could include commercial, residential and retail space." http://blog.chron.com/primeproperty/2011/12/3268/

Interesting! I love the fact that even that small area will be upgraded to something good. Too bad Post couldn't buy the block at Bagby and Gray before CVS did....

Yea there's nothing sketchy about walking around downtown at night. You might pass by a few bums here and there but it's not like they are going to do anything to you. They greyhound bus station on main st in north Midtown is probably the place I wouldn't want to venture around at night though. -
Walked by earlier and saw a cement truck pulling onto the site. I wish I could see what the design blueprint looks like with that old house right there lol.
