  1. This ain't Monopoly. Free parking wouldn't have solved anything.
  2. It's tough to tell from this photo, but the GPS maps are of downtown Houston. Spotted in a Love's Truck Stop ad outside of McComb, Mississippi. Sorry about the quality of the photos. The ad was situated above a urinal in the mens room, so I didn't have a er... second hand available to hold my phone steady.
  3. I was thinking the exact opposite... to the point, if I wasn't already married, I'd consider asking that steak on a date.
  4. Maybe it's the same sketch artists. Maybe we were actually being invaded by aliens during the 90s, but rather than attack with mass warfare, they decided to rob liquor stores and gas stations.
  5. You mean the sketches where every suspect managed to look like one of Whitley Streiber's aliens?
  6. Maybe you're right. Maybe it is just a "feel good" measure. I still like the idea though. 9/11 affected more than just those people who happened to be in lower Manhattan that morning, and I'm not just referring to the fallout of the two wars we started as a result. First responders from around the US converged on New York en masse to help their fellow fire fighters, paramedics and police rescue people and begin the process of cleaning up the mess. Hell, my cousin's husband (who happens to live in Dallas) was one such person. I'm having a difficult time understanding why anyone would object to any memorial about 9/11. It's a very big part of the American persona, regardless of place or time. I'd rather see a museum too, but I really think anything larger than a memorial outside of New York would be the disingenuous "feel good" measure.
  7. I disagree. Houston has the Holocaust Museum and it fits here. I think it's appropriate to have reminders everywhere of the destruction wrought from hatred all over the world. It might start to cause people to think before they start wars in the future.
  8. This: There's really no reason for developers to build residential downtown if there's little demand for it and no financial incentives to do it. Don't get me wrong. I'm sure there are plenty of people who'd love to live there, but the cost to do so currently is too prohibitive to make it a reality.
  9. Yep. As long as the suburban tourists can inexpensively purchase their goods near their homes, they won't pay premium prices just because a store in conveniently located close to where they work.
  10. The problem is, if an alligator eats a 15 pounder, he won't eat again for at least a week. Damned ectotherms and their conservation of internal energy. You need a ton of alligators to keep the nutria population under control.
  11. Before nutria: After nutria: http://www.nutria.com/site.php The funny thing is, back when fur was a popular accoutrement, the nutria population was steady as excess population was annually culled to make coats. Now, wearing fur is a social faux pas, and these little rats are running amok and eating all the flora in their path. Thanks for the anti-fur ads, Peta!
  12. Maybe Feast can put that on the menu: Roast Nutria with Kudzu Salad (and Smallpox for dessert).
  13. Eh... no. Ecologically speaking, invasive species generally cause far more harm than good. For proof of this, look at the wild rabbits in Australia, the brown snake on a number of Pacific islands, kudzu in the American southeast or even smallpox in the Americas with the arrival of the white man. I say kill the nutria with a vengeance and to hell with their dinner conversations.
  14. It's standing room only, except at the back bar which, as you guessed, costs extra. As an aside (kylejack), I didn't even realize there was a balcony.
  15. If it's not this, it's too small for LTAWACS:
  16. Is it possible to love a Crane with a debilitating sex addiction if he makes Nazis look like idiots on a regular basis?
  17. Disregard all that I wrote. I didn't stop at 500. The Denton company is number 700 something.
  18. Don't know about right now with the crap weather we're having, but during the warmer seasons, you can find a whole fleet of ice cream trucks flanking Disco Green pretty much any time of day.
  19. If you include Denton in DFW, then 12 of those 23 are in the Metroplex. Without Denton, it's eleven more. Houston still comes out ahead, even if you don't include Angleton or Galveston in our metro. Three or four are in the middle of BFE and the others pepper I-35 from Roundrock to San Antonio. The more you know...
  20. Don't forget the polo club for when you're dying to visit with Muffy and Thurston.
