  1. I had Collina's again last night. I got the Rustica and added pepperoni to the eggplant, red bell peppers and sausage already on the pie. I say this without exaggeration, and I've had pies in Italy and the rest of Europe, New York and Chicago, that was the best pizza I've ever eaten, bar none.
  2. Even if I could, I probably wouldn't. But, I tried it just to see, and yeah, I can't. It's permanent. I'm not going to appeal to the admins either. It's not worth it. I just post on these forums to break up daily work monotony or when I'm drinking at home and the wife's bogarting the TV watching something on Lifetime.

  3. Yeah, it's still there. Now that my wife and I are in Greenway from Montrose, I find those errant debit card charges have just changed addresses. She loves their bread. I have to agree. That place is freakin' good.
  4. Not only does it look nice, but my eight-week-old baby was born here. Fantastic care, by the way. I do wish parking was a little cheaper (or that they'd validate!) though. It's impossible to find free parking anywhere within two miles unless it's between six and ten on Sunday night, and even then it's a trek to rival Amundsen's journey.
  5. My office is nearby. I haven't seen much of anything change in about a year. It's as if we ate too many "magic" mushrooms and time just stopped. It's a good thing they finished the actual hospital before time stopped. By the way, I've heard from someone on the inside of MetroNational that the company is struggling financially, and the whole thing could possibly implode altogether. We could end up with another partially completed shell of a building. It's a good thing we're growing accustomed to seeing those around Houston. It's not Lebanon, Father. It's the economy.
  6. Biological evolution's trigger, Natural Selection, gave us opposable thumbs and a gigantic brain giving us the ability to build such things as cities. Then again, it also gave us mosquitoes and manatees. This organic natural growth can either bring greatness, pure crap or useless oddities. Only time will tell. Natural selection took a billion years to bring basic one-celled life to the level of humanity whereas intelligent design says the entire thing occurred in 6000 years. Let's just be patient and Houston will blossom on its own, in its own time.
  7. That's Montrose, Upper Kirby and Greenway. That's three neighborhoods for the price of one. Houston: Bargain City. (Should've submitted that to the slogan contest.
  8. He attacked it as if it was his full-time job. Very odd.

  9. I'm betting the vacancy is intentional. That property has to be incredibly valuable, far more valuable than the measly rent given by the handful of companies that occupy the retail space. I bet that as soon as all their leases are up, they'll be forced to move elsewhere and that property will be torn down for redevelopment. You know, just like the property on Montrose between Dallas and Allen Parkway. It's far too valuable to do nothing with!
  10. But even better pepperoni rolls. It's a travesty Collina's on Richmond was overlooked entirely on this thread. The Mona Lisa a la Lisa is one of the best pizzas available in Houston. That said, I think time of day should be a factor in deciding quality. At three in the morning, the best pizza in town bar none is Late Nite Pie. (And they'll bring a few beers by, regardless of the time.)
  11. I've eaten at the one in Lubbuttocks, and I feel no great desire to go to another. I've only eaten there once, but I learned all I need to know about the place when I ordered chile rellenos and got a bland stuffed bell pepper instead of a spicy stuffed poblano pepper. It's not my cup o' tea. But I'm sure it'll fit right in in Midtown.
  12. What's it like to be able to keep a liquor cabinet stocked? I've long marvelled at people who posess restraint. Alas, it is not a character trait that I possess.
  13. Last night, I had one of these: And these four: Waking up this morning wasn't easy. Yeah, great stuff. I tried my first one about a month ago. I picked it up at Central Market after I saw the silt on the bottom of the bottle. I've never had a bad beer that was cloudy and silty, and the Racer 5 was no exception.
  14. Not at Central Market either. I went by there on the way home from the office, and they sold out in two hours. I spoke with their beer guy, Casey I believe, and he told me he'd had some but wasn't terribly impressed. He has a buddy that buys it annually and bottle ages it for a year which supposedly does the trick to bring all the flavors out. Divine Reserve is apparently a longterm drinking investment. I didn't leave empty handed though. I got some insanely hoppy IPAs which are leaving a big smile on my face right now.
  15. I'm guessing due to Texas' quirky distribution laws we can't just go to the brewery and pick up a sixer either. Crap. Hopefully I'll be more attentive next year.
  16. Which Wich feels too gimmicky to me. Too many sandwich shops are beginning to use the same format for my liking anyhow. Brown Bag Deli on Westheimer just below Shepherd does the exact same thing. I've also eaten at a place out here near where I work off the beltway and I-10 west that mimicks that format to achieve identical results. In highschool I worked at an upper-middle range sandwich shop and have been a bit of a snob about sandwiches ever since. For subs in Houston, Lenny's is where it's at, but I'd only get excited if they announced Thundercloud was coming to Houston.
  17. This is the first I've heard of this, and I've got to have it! I've just had a kid, so hitting up a bar is a little bit unlikely. Anyone aware of where it might still be available in a six-pack?
  18. There was one mod in particular, some clown called Bowie, who followed my posts like a rabid dog. Weird guy.

  19. I got a suspension with no expiration date. Whatevs... So far I've been impressed with HAIF. People actually write in complete sentences with correct punctuation here.

  20. I knew I should stay away from the City Vs City boards. I flew too close to the sun a few too many times.
