  1. I drove by on Thursday night because I thought I heard music and lo and behold... Live band! I was pleasantly shocked to see so many people strolling around and sitting on/around the lawn. Can't wait to see the crowds when the development is finished. I really am surprised at how well they're pulling this all off so far...

Sounds like it will fill out nicely during the holidays.

  2. I know -- I can't stand those ads. I've been back and forth with the ad serving company trying to stop them. But the ad serving company has been less than helpful. I'm considering cutting the ad company off until it gets its act together.

It's not so bad, I have seen worse before on here, and heck, at least it's not animated.

  3. Anyone else feel like going to the gym to get ripped? Maybe take some creatine? Anyone else notice it's like a meat market in here.

I am enjoying ad-free HAIF, but can't help but notice my pre-login time period has gone from "Lower your Interest Rates" to getting "Pumped" up in the gym.

I wonder if I will ever be like Paul or Mike?

  4. I'd like to explain myself for the bizarre posting behavior I've done recently, but not until the "Jerk Meter" (and possibly "The HAIF/Alcohol Paradox") threads are locked. unsure.gif

    Short version...I'm sorry.

    Long version...coming soon.

Can't say I am curious, but I guess I will take the wait and see approach.

  5. Bah - wish I could go. I haven't been to Lone Star in a while but the last few visits were pretty interesting/entertaining.

Can't make it, going to the gym and then dinner.

But thanks for putting this together.

  6. Without bumping my thread about Auchan, I found out the big building on the corner of Beechnut and Beltway 8 was not Auchan. I think it was at the corner of Elmsworth and Beltway 8. What say you?

    I say . . .

Posters volunteer their time to contribute content. They ultimately control content. If they all leave, you are left with a shell of a forum once was. This also reminds me of Editor's story of how the forum came about in the first place; he put it online and checked back a few months later to see it had created a life of it's own. I guess if your not careful the reverse is true as well.

Personally I think this is one of the best if not the best local forum, despite the lack of architecture talk (which in itself is a blessing in disguisehappy.gif). Thanks for your time and efforts Editor, you walk a fine line.

I think the membership is large enough that even if a few key member decide to take a permanent break, there is still plenty of active members to compensate. This recent announcement and honor of being the best local website should ensure a continuous flow of new postings.

  7. Wait a sec.

    Red left?

How in the world did I miss that bit of news?

Who's going to write an eloquence piece with something I agree with that I can't even put together?

    This calls for a drink.

I stayed away from this thread because I thought some silly off topic talk was going on, needless to say it was some interesting reading.

I am stunned at the comments going back and forth.

I am indifferent to the news of a RedScareless HAIF, "m e h", theNiche will be missed in my eyes, and memebag, didn't know ya well enough to comment.

Give poor Wayne a break and show him the respect and gratitude he deserves guys. This really is his baby. We are invited in here. HAIF is a privilege, not a right.

  8. In the last couple days, the building that housed the River Cafe (Montrose & Marshall) was demolished. Does anyone know what is coming next? Have any permits been filed with the city??

I know they planned the midrise there several years ago, but that fell through. It shocked me to drive down the street and see that it was gone!

This was supposed to be pretty impressive when it was annouced, and had good legs for a while like the Turnberry Tower.

May I suggest a topic merge?

Update: Looks like Lauren already mention this las week per Swamplot on said thread.

  9. It seems like a whole bunch of threads that are month or even years dormant are starting to be revived. There's an option in the software to make old dead threads read-only. I wonder if I should turn that on.

LOL'd I just dug one up from the grave myself.

But I am fine, but I like less clutter on the forums. So unless it can't be rinsed, reused, and recycled to some sort of relative continuity, I a game.

The whole LaCenterra 2009 was unnecessary.

How about you just ban kirk, because the nature of this forum is such that really old threads need to be bumped sometimes.

What would Spock say about this?

At the very least, we should give Kirk and Carol credit for bringing this to our attention, maybe call this new forum rule the "Kirk Bumping Old Carol" Clause. :D

  10. Kinda of off/on topic, but now since the whole format wars are over, I have found myself still renting movies. I still don't own a single Blu Ray, and the last new DVD I got was as a gift.

The irony, when I was younger and making less income, I'd find myself impulsively buying the latest big release at Walmart/Circuit City/Best Buy while they were at there first week discount out of habit.

I'd watch them once, maybe twice, and then it sits on the shelf.

Now with online rental streaming to my computer or PS3 and $1 rental machines across the street from my house, I don't see a need for buying physical media.

Has anyone else made the transition to renting only or are you still buying movies and tv shows on DVD and Blu Ray?

  11. 12. Please tell me this is fake:

An exciting new snow-themed development for Houston, Texas has been unveiled by Unlimited Snow for Houston, Texas.

    http://skirebel.com/magazine/2007/07/05/sn...-houston-texas/

    And two years later, nothing
