  1. New design for the hotel, finally moving forward.

A new luxury hotel will soon break ground in the Woodlands, providing much-needed rooms and meeting space for business travelers visiting the area.  The Howard Hughes  Corp. (NYSE: HHC) and its wholly-owned subsidiary, The Woodlands Development Co., will soon break ground on a 303-room, luxury hotel at Waterway Square overlooking The Woodlands Waterway. The cost of the project was not disclosed.

The hotel, unofficially known as "Waterway Square Hotel," will also include 24,000 square feet of meeting and special event space, a fine dining restaurant and second level pool deck and bar. The Howard Hughes Corp. is in the process of finalizing negotiations with the brand name for the hotel.

The entire project is expected to be completed in mid-2015. The design architect is Elkus Manfredi Architects of Boston. Architect of record is Houston-based Gensler. A contractor has not been named.

  2. well that is interesting. there is no way the development rendered is anywhere near 1 million+ sq ft though. maybe 500,000.

edit. they said it has 75,000 sq ft of retail space. there is no way even the 500,000 sq ft estimate i threw out is possible for a 13 story tower (2 of the floors being part of the retail), thats footprint doesnt even take up half of the block.

Learned today that its 510,000 square feet. Unless the project recently grew in size, the description I quoted in my original post is for a different development.

  3. What he said. You can actually see the excavator for the Fingers apartments near the center. This one is supposed to go up in Q2, but they may be starting early...? My theory though is that they are simply taking soil samples for the engineers.

Yes just soil samples, usually done a few months before construction. They pulled up the pavement last month.

  4. Any idea whether it's on the East or West side of 6? I wouldn't think a project of this size wouldn't fit on the East side, so I'm assuming it's on the West.

Grisby is a cut through for morning commuters, and if this project is where i think it is, it's going to cause a huge backup in the AM.

Regardless, This is a good start for a somewhat delapitated and underused area.

  5. ^ The plans call for the building to be renovated and converted to apartments, not for it to be taken down. Nate even tells us what the crane is being used for...it's pretty clear that you didn't read. I was being serious because I was giving out a warning.

If you want to discuss things further, please send it via PM.

  6. Why are they dismantling this building to build a new one? As if Houston is running out of space. Stupid.

The building is not being dismantled. I highly advise you to read first, before commenting. If you don't have anything to add, or a question, then please don't post. Thanks.

Also, many comments that add nothing to the conversation, or come across as trolling, have been deleted from a number of threads recently. 7. Millennium Tower II, 22-floors

The Millennium Tower in Westchase is getting a long-awaited sibling. The owner of the building has started a second on 3 adjacent acres at 10353 Richmond. Millennium II will have 417,000 square feet of high-end office space and a 1,780-car parking garage.
